@letterarchive asked me to do a letter M for January 13th, and I think I might have gone a little overboard 😂😂 This is a Lombardic majuscule M decorated in a 15th-century Gothic style - or something that’s sort of kind of vaguely approaching it 😂 Technically not part of my personal illuminated letter project, but when I reach M I’ll revisit this one and try to do better! . It’s the first time I’ve tried gilding with loose leaf gold instead of patent gold. In the corners where it worked, it worked REALLY well, but I need to figure out what I’m doing that causes wrinkles in the centre so that I can stop it. Maybe the instacoll wasn’t quite dry enough? Ah well, I’m enjoying the learning process! . If you don’t know the @letterarchive, hop over and have a look. Over the course of 2018 all posts to the archive hashtags will be considered for a coffee table book to be published at the end of 2018, with sales to be donated to Room To Read (a nonprofit children’s literacy and girls’ education organisation). Anyone can contribute - just create a single letter post and tag it #letterarchive_(letter) - for example, this one is #letterarchive_m - and you’re done! . #letterarchive_M #letterarchive #illumination #lombardic #gothic #gilding #goldleaf #calligraphy #satisfying #melbourneart #melbourneartist #calligraphyplaytime #calligraphynerd #calligraphylife #calligraphylove #lovemyjob #learningcalligraphy
