I think a lot about how ... pretty? ... Instagram is. Like, we all love to show off our final creations, but we don’t share the hard work behind it sometimes, because that’s messy and doesn’t look as good and shows our mistakes, and that makes us feel vulnerable, and nobody likes looking like they’re wrong in front of uh ... a lot of people, there’s a LOT of you guys 👀👀👀 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So in that vein here’s my first page of notes from class with @gyounghee yesterday, learning the details of insular half-uncial, a script I’ve only dabbled in before. I make a lot of mistakes. I take a LOT of notes. None of it comes effortlessly and all of it is thanks to the amazing teachers who share their skills with us. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I actually feel a bit weird posting it for all the reasons above ... but I still think it’s good to show more of where we start and not so much only the pretty stuff. And maybe a bit of how much work behind the scenes every calligrapher on Instagram does. 😅 Gonna press post now, and in a few months (or years) when I’ve figured this script out, I’ll be able to share some prettier stuff! . #lovemyjob #melbourneart #calligraphyteacher #learncalligraphy #duckpaddling #showyourwork #studyasmuchasyoupractice https://www.instagram.com/p/ByO_L3SlL_o/?igshid=1beev8liiizg1
