She was picking through a can of skag meat with half of a chopstick when she heard the steps behind her; the dull thud of boots against way too dusty pavement causing a speared bite of food to pause halfway to her lips. The mechanic was turned away from her shop entrance, ass planted on top of a long past saving runner engine; the tightened hunch of her shoulders the only visible sign she didn’t want the business walking in. Normally she would take anything she could get - business was business, that was something Marcus always ground into her head.
But ever since B.D. had disappeared a few weeks back R.T. had lost some of her familiar sass and her business had tanked in the process. So yeah, life on Pandora was fucking hard and the two had always joked that one of them would bite the dust before the other - and it wasn’t like they were in a relationship or some shit - but B.D. had slotted into her life in a way that made life without him lonely.
How many times over the last few weeks had she caught herself going to make a comment to a body that wasn’t there or toss a Rakk Ale out of habit only to have it shatter on the concrete? Fuck if that number wasn’t embarrassingly high. So did she care what the potential customer walking through the front of her shop had for her? Nah, not even a little; should she take it anyway? Probably. Would she?
“Shop’s closed; go git some other scrap mechanic to fix whatever ya got.” Nope. The raggedy haired blonde was turning just slightly to make sure whoever it was had gotten the message when the sight that waited for her had a scowl tugging her lips and she was up fast as lightning to plant her fist in B.D.’s stupid face.
“You stupid, inbred stack of meat! Three weeks?! Three weeks without a god damn Echo and you just come waltzing in here?” Rox was going to run this tattooed asshole over with every runner she could find, “I should send you through the new-u station fifty times on principle!”
The door to the mini fridge slammed open under her enraged hands; grabbing two freezing cold bottles of Rakk Ale out of habit and tossing one to her unfortunate best friend. “Shove all the fucking planets in the universe up my ass you’re a fucking pain.” Hyperion in the god damn sky she was glad to see him and if he didn’t pick up on that he was dumber than he looked.
