My opinions on a few things This was mainly written as a response to Gabby. If you're interested and your name isn't Gabby feel free to read on,
but know that its not fandom related or even remotely interesting. I also reserve the right to change my opinion because people always evolve and learn new things and I'm just not stubborn enough to stick to one opinion when I learn information saying the other the other side is right. Ok I'm sorry about the tags on that post, when I said 'glad its not all of 'em" the them I was referring to was Canadian politicians, not actual Canadian people. So far every Canadian I have had the good fortune of meeting/talking to online have been awesome, open minded, well educated people whose heads are not up America's arse regardless of what the American goverment does. And believe me I know how it is, to not have your politicians represent your P.O.V. Several million people protested in the streets against both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars - some due to the sheer waste of taxpayers money, others because they felt it was wrong - literally schools were closing down to give students permission to go (sadly I didn't go) but the government went ahead with the wars anyway.
Anyway that's the main gist of it ^^^ I don't blame any Canadian for what their government does.
The rest is just tangents...
In regards to the actual Palestine-Israel conflict, the Governments weren't asked to pick sides - as you were saying about it being Palestine INSTEAD of Israel, rather for it to be recognised as a state so that the people can stop being oppressed, and so they can live side by side. Atm the majority of the conflict is due to the fact that Palestinians are limited in terms of food, water, medical supplies etc and then they take desperate measures to try and get them. They literally have to illegally smuggle things that you or I can go to the corner shop to get. So yeah, maybe giving them a voice, letting them have an opinion in international conferences etc would have reduced the conflict a bit, idk.
As for what I've read, I so badly wish I could take extra courses at our uni, but doing Dentistry we have no choice in what we learn. Besides I wouldn't trust much of what my uni had to say, anyway, there is literally not a single person of colour in the Council (i.e upper departments), they make everything pretty hard for anyone non Caucasian and just a look at their YouTube page will give you an idea of the representation they believe in (speaking of, have you seen the M & S leading ladies advert? How awesome is the rep there)
Anyway stuff I've read include booklets and pamphlets which you're right, living in an area with Muslims in would have been mainly once side of the story. But wikipedia's a pretty neutral source I suppose.. and they have a lot of info. And for me, if Israel has killed four times more civilians than Palestine, with a much greater proportion being children, you can tell pretty clearly who the bad guys are.
idk, if you have actual rabbis against Israel then I guess you know something's wrong? And tbh a lot of non Muslims who are against Israel also target Muslims because they think it might.. idk.. strike a cord. But for example, [[TANGENT, IGNORE I'm very against the current regimes in Egypt and Syria, and the Saudi Royal family, and the Pakistani government when they don't try to give Pakistani Christian protection from hate crimes - so I don't support countries just because they are Muslim, trust me, rather I am worse with them because I have higher expectations for them. But I digress]]
Well I need to cut A LOT of this down and move onto other points, but I guess I'll publish this now, and edit it later? It;s jst taking too long, and I never know when ColdTurkey is going to let me on this website.
