Given that the... intruder... is harmless and has done nothing of consequence, it would be wrong to retaliate violently, or to shoo him away where he’ll most likely be killed. So the soldiers take Uriel’s cue and pretend they don’t notice, surreptitiously moving their stuff out of the way and keeping him where they can keep an eye on him.
