CHALLENGE:  Write a MGS themed recipe (can be real or a joke) bonus points if you make it IRL.

These are more like cookies than actual Calorie Mate(TM), although still not quite as sweet, but they’re pretty tasty! Recipe under the read more.

Ingredients:

1 cup all purpose flour

1 cup almond flour/meal

1/2 cup butter, melted

1/2 cup sugar (i used white sugar but brown sugar would be interesting to experiment with)

1 large egg

2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla extract

5 tsp maple extract

1/8 tsp soy sauce

Directions:

Start by preheating your oven to 325 F. Add the flour, almond flour/meal, sugar, salt, and baking soda to your bowl. 

Add the melted butter (1 minute in my microwave melted it nicely, it will vary though) and the egg. Then add the vanilla extract and maple extract. I used much less than what I have here in my first go so the maple is very slight. Maple calorie mate DOES smell much more like maple than it tastes, but I wish I'd added more. You could probably also experiment with just straight up adding maple syrup.

Soy sauce is actually in the ingredient list for maple calorie mate but I am a baby and was deeply uncertain about that so I added it but I added the tiniest bit of it.

Mix the dough until it's sticky and soft. Scrape it out onto a flat surface (I used a glass cutting board) and roll it to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut it into roughly 3x1" strips and place 1" apart on a baking sheet. Prick them with a fork to get the pattern on actual calorie mate. Put it in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.

After a few minutes they will cool and firm up and you can enjoy!! 

*Mine ended up spreading quite a bit but you can gently cut them into neater rectangles right after you take them out of the oven. Chilling the dough or using brown sugar might help with the spreading.
