Amigos
@alexanderwales @centrally-unplanned the post thread talking about public sentiments regarding health insurance got locked before I could contribute there, but one thing that I think makes that looking at how people view their own insurance provider specifically is not necessarily useful for the broader convo, is that less than 10% of people w/ health insurance attain said insurance via a direct purchase market. ~55% get it via their employer, and another ~35% get it via a government plan.
This means that very few people directly pay for their whole health insurance plan. It also might explain why the survey responses that @centrally-unplanned posted rated their insurance plans so well: I would probably give good scores to an insurance plan that I don't personally pay much for even if they denied every fifth claim I made, from my POV I probably saved money ultimately. That's also even assuming somebody uses their health plan at all, I'd imagine most give good scores because they don't pay for the whole plan and don't use the plan, and so have nothing bad they can say about it.
I think it therefore has pretty limited utility in answering how the public feels on the CEO-assassination question. I'd predict how most people feel on that question does in fact come down to other priors regarding how they view the healthcare industry broadly, and in some instances where they have no strong views there, whether on not they have strong stances on crime or civil society issues. That's just my guess, hopefully some brave pollster somewhere eventually does put the question to the public so we no longer need to speculate.
