The early afternoon found Erzhan on a park bench with a history book in hand that he’d picked up at a book store. Meeting so many international political figures got him interested and he stocked up on books on various countries. Right now he was reading about Taiwan, his curiosity having been piqued about China’s southeastern neighbour.
The sun beamed down; the temperature had to be in the thirties at least. He closed his book and used his hand to try to fan himself as he leaned back a little. Perhaps it would have been a better idea to do his reading indoors, in an air conditioned cafe or even in his own apartment, but the outdoors just seemed like such a refreshing option at the time. He’d worn a T-shirt and a very thin cardigan on top, but ultimately the cardigan would have to go, as much as he disliked wearing plain T-shirts in public. He set the book down on the bench and slipped the extra layer off, used it as a makeshift towel to pat down his face a little and then stuck it into his bag. He was just about to go back to his reading when he spotted a familiar looking dog. Upon lifting his head to see the owner, he was assured that it was the exact dog that he was thinking of.
“Camille!” He raised his book up to grab her attention and waved her down as he stood from the bench, hoping to play with the little dog. “Hi,” he greeted with a bright smile once the two were close enough. He knelt down in front of the puppy and held out his arms enthusiastically after sticking the book into his bag as well to free up both hands. “Hey, you! Enjoying your walk?”
