Hello! I was wondering what you’d advise someone to bring to a camp festival? Like LIB or Oregon Eclipse. I am a girl who has have never been camping a day in my life let alone at a festival. You always look so awesome at these things and like you’ve had a good amount of experience. What are the necessities or just plain nice things to consider taking?

Camp site survival tips

While in the woods, you need to survive. Otherwise, you might end up cutting short your camping trip. Cross check with your camping checklist to make sure you have everything that’s needed in the woods. 

·         Make an emergency rain shelter using a tarp

Sometimes unexpected and windy rain gives people a surprise while camping. If you are camping and this happens while the wind is so strong, you can make an emergency rain shelter using a tarp. The others can shelter there as you make the tent sturdier. Just stake one corner of the tarp facing the wind, prop a pole under the opposite side of the tarp and from the top of the pole, fasten the line to a tree or ground stake.

·         Use water and tree oil to repel insects

Insects can be a real bother while camping. You can prevent such kind of inconvenience and mischief from insects by mixing about 40 drops of tea tree oil with approximately 12-16 Oz of water and spray it on yourself. The insects will stay away from you and you will smell good.

Before you go camping, you should be ready for anything and be as equipped as possible to handle some of these challenges efficiently and make the experience a great one.

These two tips will help you in a big deal while out there in the woods.

A new year is the best time to prepare for camping. The New Year has new resolutions. One resolution is getting out of the comfort of your home into the woods. Camping is the best activity that brings families and friends closer. Here is a list of camping items you need to carry with you to enhance your camping experiments.

Maps and compass

Unless you are going to a place you are so familiar with, never forget to carry a map and a compass. With technology around, we always have GPS on our phone and even in our cars, but unfortunately, the network signal is not clear in remote camping spots. Compass and maps are more reliable in this place than GPS.

Alternative weather gear

In some places, weather changes rapidly. Even when you have checked the weather forecast for weeks, you might get stuck in the rain or it becomes too sunny. With an extra set of clothes, you will be a piece in case the weather changes.

Hunting knife

You need a camping knife, as others would call it. There are so many folding knives that you can easily put in your hiking backpack.  The knife might come in handy when you least expect it.

Camping tips and tricks for survival

There is a lot to learn about yourself when camping. Your patience and knowledge are tested on almost every task at the campsite, lighting a fire, pitching a tent and many other things. 

You get to understand that sleeping on the ground feels pretty impressive. Some tasks are more challenging than others but aren’t impossible.

 Here are a few camping tips and tricks to make your adventure more enjoyable:

·         Making a stove from a beer can

For those who carry can sodas and other beverages, the can is not damaged after you are through with the drink. Use a knife, some denatured alcohol and be encouraged too and transform the can into a DIY camping stove that will boil water in less than 6 minutes and it is simple.

·         Freeze water to keep food fresh

Put a gallon of water in a jug and freeze it into ice. The jug shaped ice block lasts longer than ice cubes and even after it melts, you will still have a gallon of ice cold water.

Remember, as they say, its survival for the fittest. You need to make an experience and there is no better way than having these camping tips and survival.

9 Items for your Camping Gear Checklist

Creating a camping checklist for your family is a good way to stop you from packing too much, while ensuring you're including the essentials.  You can click here for a printable checklist for your next camping trip.

Here are 9 Items on my camping gear checklist

Map & Compass

The most common disaster on a camping trip is not being mauled by a Grizzly Bear – it’s getting lost and not having any idea where you are. You might think that with your smartphone's GPS and Google maps, you'll never get lost again.  Big mistake.  Get a map and compass, especially when backpacking.

Sturdy Pair of Boots

Hiking boots are not sneakers. Hiking boots are not cross country running shoes.  Hiking boots are..boots.  And you're going to need something that can handle wear and tear.  If you rip out the soles of your sneakers you'll be sitting on stumps for the rest of your trip.

Extra Food

It’s a real pain to run out of food when camping, so always pack more than you think you will need. But be smart on how and what kind of food you're packing. Bags of cereal and chips are often half full of air, which wastes a lot of space. Consider using a vacuum sealer to create compact survival snack rations.

Shelter

Sleeping under the stars without a tent is something everyone should try at least once.  Especially if it's a clear sky full of stars.  But don't let that pretty sky stop you from packing a tent.  It's great for keeping bugs out, shade, and shelter if it decides to rain on you.

Camping Knife

A good multi-purpose knife is a must-have for any camper. Sharpen sticks, pound in tent stakes, or a weapon if needed. And when you're camping you're constantly having to cut threads off clothing and gear.  Lastly, if you're bored you can widdle something.

Flashlight

I prefer a high lumen flashlight but a headlamp or lantern works just as good. If you forget a light, you can always attempt to make a survival lantern, but I prefer something that can zoom in.  I like to know what's on the perimeter of my camp.

Extra Clothes

You don't have to pack your kitchen sink, but if you're going to be outdoors for an extended period of time, make sure you have extra everything, especially underwear and socks.  You never know when it will rain, or a late night scary campfire story makes you ruins your undies.

First Aid

If you don't have a first aid kit you can bring the basics like band-aids, elastic bandages, antibiotics, painkillers and disinfectant. Stuff your first aid items into a ziplock or waterproof bag so they stay dry.

Camping Cookware

You're going to need to eat and I don't mean sticking your hand in a bag of trail mix all weekend. Your camping mess kit will differ depending on how much walking you'll need to do and how much weight you can carry. My personal favorite is a Dutch Oven Skillet, but it's also hell to carry those in a pack.  

Conclusion

Make sure you run through a camping checklist before you wander off into mother nature. She can be nasty if you're not prepared.
