JURN.E  :: an evocative contemporary dance experience :: The Rachel Browne Theatre (venue #8) will erupt with urgent movement and sporadic dialogues that are at one moment energetic, and at the next tender. JURN.E will be riveting, unpredictable and acutely unfeigned.

For the premier presentation of The Lime Project Dance Company at The Winnipeg Fringe Festival, Artistic Director Nina Jane Patel investigates into the realm of human capacity to create a major work for the Company, affirming its position as a powerhouse of new Canadian choreography. 

JURN.E presents the world as seen through the eyes of 5 women travelling through time.The Lime Project’s highly trained dancers capture the ebb and flow of life in this reflective work in 17 movements as the women dance pushing their physical extremes and emotional limits testing the capacity for delving inside themselves.  From one moment to the next, moving seamlessly between present and past, the audience will be taken on a JURN.E

JURN.E puts the process of discovery centre-stage, transporting the audience through a meditation on life, death, love, loss and a different kind of hope sparking the imagination and stimulating the creative mind. Featuring five of Winnipeg’s finest contemporary dancers; Rachelle Bourget, Carol-Ann Bohrn, Kate Likhotin, Alexandra Scarola and Nina Jane Patel, herself, JURN.E delves into the deepest secrets of the self;  an adventure not to be missed.

Collaborating with South American animator & film maker Martin Aquino and original lighting design by Winnipeg's Steve Hunnie, JURN.E will engage Winnipeg's audience as no other contemporary dance has done before.

   Winnipeg's Union Station Comes to Life with a Site Specific Contemporary Dance.

Set to an original score and featuring an explosive cast of performers, a r r i v a l s & d e p a r t u r e s, supported by The Winnipeg Arts Council and produced in association with Via Rail, is a turbulent mix of dance, music and visual theatre 

On April 19th & 20th Winnipeg's Union Station rotunda will erupt with urgent movement and sporadic dialogues that are at one moment energetic, and at the next tender. The journey will be riveting, unpredictable and acutely unfeigned.

a r r i v a l s & d e p a r t u r e s is The Lime Project Dance Company's new 50min site specific contemporary dance created for Winnipeg’s Union Station. 

Choreographed by Winnipeg choreographer, Nina Patel, with music composed by Winnipeg's Joel Klaverkamp, the dancers Rachelle Bourget, Carol-Ann Bohrn, Branwyn Bundon and Alexandra Scarola are tested to their limits. a r r i v a l s & d e p a r t u r e s exists in a world inspired by the ghosts of Union Station - vibrant, significant moments in life that have passed through the station resonate in a significant, undeniable way. The ghosts of history yearning to tell their stories.

The Audience

The audience will be able to move through the rotunda during the dance, making a choice whether to stand or walk within the rotunda while the dancers perform. Each audience member will have a different experience. Inherently, the audience will become the train station pedestrian traffic that might have existed during the intensely personal and significant moments in time that once happened in Winnipeg’s Union Station.

The 5th Dancer

The inspiration behind a r r i v a l s & d e p a r t u r e s and the decision to create a site-specific dance at Winnipeg's Union Station is based on a desire to examine how dance can communicate a site’s historical, emotional, and social context to an audience; by creating relationships within the specific site. When a dance piece is conceived in relation to a particular place the location becomes as much a part of the performance as the dancer’s body. Brought out into the world, the dance can expand, engage with new audiences, and help reinvigorate a sense of communal space.

Outreach Program

  Did you ever want to create your own flash mob?  Or do you imagine dancing in a music video?  Well, this class is for you! Class participants will rock their own personal style while they explore freedom of movement and the joy of dance.  Students share creative ideas while learning elemental principles of choreography and dance creation. While no formal dance training is necessary to join, students will have the opportunity to stretch, to invent new moves and create a signature personal style.

 The Lime Project Dance Company is offering a free afterschool program providing a playful, safe environment that nurtures creativity and self-esteem. In small, non-competitive classes children can discover new talents and interests as they explore the creative process in contemporary & modern dance styles. Highly qualified dance teacher, Nina Patel will teach traditional dance concepts and skills along with encouraging self-expression and style. The program is open-ended to encourage innovation and creativity.  Children discover what they can achieve using their imagination and a solid foundation in the principles and techniques of dance.
