MABINAY, NEGROS ORIENTAL -- In the early morning hours, a magnitude 5.5 earthquake occurred at the epicenter of Candoni town in Negros Occidental. Disney XD News recently crossed the provincial borders from Mabinay in Negros Oriental to the mentioned municipal town and province upon witnessing a significant seismic event. On Tuesday (November 3rd, 2025 -- Sipalay local time), the quake's epicenter was situated in the southwestern part of this region with a focal depth of 84 kilometers.
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported the following seismic regular intensities at #4 is the main municipality epicenter of Candoni in Negros Occidental, where it was felt from here. Following at #3 goes to Bago City, Binalbagan, Hinoba-an & Kabankalan in Negros Occidental; Amlan, Bacong, Bais, Dumaguete City, Sibulan & Tanjay in Negros Oriental; and 4 areas of Siquijor (including Siquijor City). While at #2 are Himamaylan, San Carlos & Silay in Negros Occidental; and 5 municipal towns of Cebu Province. Lastly at #1 in Negros Occidental is the City of Smiles, known as Bacolod, which spotted a weaker shaking point.
For instrumental intensities on the other hand at #3 are Bago City, La Carlota & Sipalay in Negros Occidental; and 1 municipal town separately, between Guimaras and Negros Oriental (including Sibulan). Following at #2 is 1 municipal area of Aklan; 4 municipalities in Antique; 1 municipal town of Guimaras; 2 areas of Cebu Province (including Metro Cebu); 4 areas of Zamboanga del Norte (including Dipolog City); and 1 municipal area of Zamboanga del Sur.
Lastly at #1 is 1 municipal area of Antique; 3 areas of Capiz (including Roxas City); 1 municipal area of Guimaras; Bacolod City in Negros Occidental; 1 municipal area of Bohol; and 2 areas of Cebu Province. Overall, the cause of the earthquake is purely tectonic, and no damage has been reported today. PHIVOLCS verifies that the aftershocks will gradually occur within this week or later.
Moving forward, regional officials are reminding residents about the long-term seismic risk. PHIVOLCS Director 'Renato Umali Solidum Jr.' cautions the whole Negrosanon people that the Negros Island Region (NIR) was vulnerable to its own seismic version of "The Big One", which might be as great as M8.0 and have its origin on the Visayan portion of the Philippine Fault Zone (PFZ). This actually became a very important reminder to everyone living in the area to be in a prepared state.
