Opinion on Jane Crocker?

She's, like, okay. I love how goofy she can be, the drama is compelling, and crockertier is interesting. But she's just fine. Probably my least favourite kid, between her or Jake.

Anyway, let's talk about post canon.

Candy!Jane is one of the best written characters in homestuck. Period. I fucking LOVE Jane. In both the epilogues and beyond canon. Her descent into fascism is believable, compelling, and delightfully evil. What little regret and empathy she has for others is soooo compelling. And the attempted assassination scene is to DIE for.

This image can't NOT send a chill down my spine. She's just endlessly entertaining to watch as a villain, in the way that only jack noir has been this far in homestuck. She's such a fantastic villain for the meantime while Dirk is fucking around on deltritus, I adore her.

If you're Og Jane's biggest fan and are depressed at how your blorbo turned into mega hitler, I get it, but counterpoint: she's really good at being mega hitler

I wanna talk about post canon Jane a bit. I really hate it when people say Jane wouldn’t become a capitalist xenophobic asshole because

one of her main character traits is being a capitalist and a ruthless business woman/detective

she was from a young age fed propaganda from the condense and after she found out that the person/company she looked up to most was evil and wanted to kill her friends she would be understandably mad at her (and for candy!jane trolls in general)

she is kinda an asshole in the comic. And people seem to forget that I’m not saying she’s a bad person just rude and stubborn which can snowball into being a full time asshole.

now where am I going with this you may ask? Nowhere

okay I kinda lied I’m going somewhere which is trans masc Jane (im going to use he/him for this section) and why it’s perfect for his character (in post canon) a lot of his ambitions and interests (apart from baking but back to that in a minute) are considered masculine, another major part of his character is their loyalty to crockercorp (even after realizing the truth) and a way I could see them going with meat!jane is rejecting crockercorp as opposed to candy!jane who embraces it and if you think about what crockercorp is a baking empire ran by an facist woman, baking is the one interest of janes that is considered feminine normally so if meat!jane ends up rejecting crockercorp then by rejecting femininity as a whole and embracing masculinity.

I'm gonna post a collection of drawings I made on a whiteboard at this week's game night. Not all of them are mine, but I will point out which ones are!!

This is the full bit zoomed out, all of these are mine except the catgirl and bee (drawn by my gf) and the consort (drawn by my friend). I was mainly just excited about Vrissy being revealed to be a Derse dreamer.

Here is my beloved auguryAside. I quite like how I did her! I cannot wait to see her actual design, and then draw it again :3

Here are the other two nymphs, and a togore for fun. The Ly'lac is obviously from [S] Ly'lac: look, because she's ADORABLE, and then we have a lil' dagger to complete the nymph trilogy. The swirls in their hair(squid thing) were really hard to do with the whiteboard pen, but I REALLY like the swirly glasses. I like the idea of two nymphs not having glasses but one does, and two Satyrs do have glasses and one doesn't. And of them it makes sense for CC and CT to have/not have glasses.

My girlfriend ranted to me about how Swiss is terrible about keeping bees and how in Swiss: commune with bees they're clearly trying to kill him (by swarming him and vibrating to cook him alive), and so drew a bee, in response to which I drew Swiss being killed by communing with his bees. I also drew Bowie (TC) and Tanto (CT) because I had to complete the delta Hexalogy. The Bowie I'm actually quite proud of, but the Tanto I was exhausted so didn't put too much effort in. I kinda wish I drew Harry Yiffy and Tavvy to complete the whole set! Oh well. Later for sure.

Here is my beyond canon goat aura farming. She is so cool. Every panel with her is one of my favourites. They absolutely KILLED IT with her design. I took a picture with her similarly aura farming but am obviously not gonna face reveal here LMAO

And bonus drawing here's my beloved Tavvy saying thank you after the lovely @lilacstuck told me that seeing my pfp in the notes of @dailyomegakids inspired one of their posts. I'm honoured, and I hope the Tavvy shows how so!

The honest to god biggest impact beyond canon has had on my general homestuck fan identity is Jane is genuinely just one of my favourite characters now. Like I cannot stress enough I just didn't really care for her in the original comic, but now I actually really appreciate her character, not just for the post canon stuff, but because her initial groundwork was so good that it was able to set up the post canon stuff. Anyway I love you Jane Crocker <3
