It’s complicated. Not sure what I am right now. Culturally, I’m Mormon, yes. Not sure how much I believe in the actual doctrine anymore. Anything specific you wanna know?
your mormon tag is cannibal stuff, is this in reference to the utah accent "when you turn eight and get baptized you become a cannibal (accountable)" ?
So one of the members of my General Grievous Discord server was talking about various demographics on Grievous' homeworld and headcanoned this one character as coming from a cannibalistic culture and they said that other members of the species find this weird, kind of like with Mormons
Anyway I wildly misinterpreted their analogy and now we call Mormons cannibals in the group chat
Just found out you’re Mormon, out of curiosity I went through your Mormonism tag, and you have reblogged a post arguing being against gay marriage wasn’t homophobic in itself, defending the post mortem baptisms, and have been dismissive of peoples account of being harassed trying to leave the church because « technically you only have to write one letter » when what the rules are doesn’t mean that’s what happens. Are those still your positions ? As a gay person I wouldn’t feel safe continuing to follow if yes. Thanks for taking the time to clarify if you decide to answer this
I delete most of my old Mormon posts whenever I come across them. My views have evolved considerably. I'm honestly not sure if I won't leave the Church at some point. My current views are that opposing gay marriage is homophobic, post-mortem baptisms are... well, I'm still working that one out. I've had friends leave the Church and seen what they've faced from their leaders, ward members and families since then, so I realize now it's more complicated than a letter (except in some rare fortunate cases.) Also, you didn't ask, but I now lean pro-choice, and I think it would be a good step if the Church were to retire the proselyting missionary program and pivot exclusively toward service missions, which was the kind of mission I served. Instead of preaching, I was assigned to/volunteered at various charitable organizations inside and outside of the Church, such as the Bishop's Storehouse, Habitat for Humanity, a local food bank, and a wildlife shelter. Some of my fellow missionaries served at Salvation Army, but I also think the Church should cut ties with that organization and I'm glad I never served there. Thanks for reaching out to clarify. I’m sorry you came across some upsetting content from me.
In light of something that’s come to my attention, I feel I should clarify a few things:
-I am vehemently anti-clonecest and always have been. I have the tag blocked so if it pops up in my feed I see it immediately and block it. I may be following clonecest blogs without knowing it. If that comes to your attention, please give me the names of the blog in question (with evidence, preferably, although I will also search their blog for the tag) so that I can block them. I don't want clonecesters following me and I don't want to follow them. Clonecest is disgusting and fetishistic.
-I am no longer a missionary. I was released from that calling. Said mission was a non-proselyting mission. I recognize the harm that proselyting missions can do and the colonialist aspect. So no, I would not identify as a "proud Christian missionary" anymore, and even back when I was on my mission, it was not one of those missions. If anybody would like to ask me about my mission I would be happy to answer questions.
-I do not support everything the Church does or teaches. This was true at the start of my mission and it's even more true now. I believe that the Church is not only less progressive than it could be, but also less progressive than it used to be. I do not believe that bigotry and oppression are fundamental fabrics of the faith and that the gospel is true in spite of some incorrect Church practices and teachings. I also do not blame anyone for leaving the Church even though I have not yet made that decision.
