Timeline of events as a foggy map of how she got to where she is now! This is probably going to be edited with more details as I think up and remember them, but this is a very good start!
It's long. You have been warned.
Basic Background:
-Grew up at home with mother and father who were both freelance artists. She had a normal childhood, school life, social life, the works.
-Was raised touching on as many forms of art and creativity as possible. The ones that stuck were clay throwing, some dance, accordion, but mostly things where she could change things with her hands.
-But of course, there’s trouble in the neighborhood. Specifically, mafia trouble!
-Got a few fellas from the city drifting into the neighborhood looking for some extra coin and the Donahue family ain’t exactly liquid.
-Add in some first contact with these bad boys and that’s what put her down the path she walks now.
Congruent events that lead up until now:
-Money’s already tight and got tighter once the leeches in leather began to get settled in and around the area. They were a good ways from the city at the time and felt that that specific place was out of range of their main turf. Good place to chill out and get an iron grip on. Ma and Pa were starting to struggle. Art sold well enough at first, but now with some new “Insurance” practices around they were leaking funds just to survive. Being 18-19 and still thinking she’s got the world figured out, she tries to do something about it.
-Long story short, borrowed money from these guys, thought she could avoid them, pissed off one of the bigger fishes, got snagged and abducted.
-The bathophobia comes into play here when she’s sitting at the bottom of the river with a cinderblock tied to her ankle.
-Somehow got out of that and fled, unable to go back home knowing they would just drag her off again the moment they saw her.
-Is now in this crime ridden city with nowhere to go. Can’t go home either. (Parents were very much informed that their daughter is dead.) Gotta avoid some guys now too.
-First order of business, find a place with a roof. Insert volunteer testing facility here. Note: Sketchy as SHIT, but hidden. Hidden is good.
-Goes through human trials for an experimental strand of microbe in exchange for safety, food and a bed. Pretty good set up and grew close to the very few other participants there. Found family, get?
-Milestone for Splinters HERE! But not fully polished. They never did perfect them before getting shut down. They never will be now and she has to learn to live with them.
-Back on the streets again after testing was shut down now with unrelenting guilt of not going home and at this point feeling she can’t go home.
-Big chunk of time spent in the city finding jobs to do and places to bunk till she gets a hold of a trailer. Get that puppy pulled around by a friend she made doing jobs until she finds a place outside of the city where she can put it and live.
-Milestone two! Permanent residence acquired outside of the city.
-She starts to figure out how these quills work and what they need. Stocks up on vitamins and iron tablets to keep herself going. Discovers they really boost her durability and can do some major damage!
-Eventually starts doing riskier jobs, settles into a life of freelance work, swaps the trailer for a mini house in the same location, starts hiding money and supplies away around the area and city.
-Becomes confident and strong enough as a more cutthroat gal. Stabilizes and gets used to this life at 23.
-Is now 26 and has quite a few aces up her sleeve.
Additional details that happen after she becomes who she is:
-Father dies of lung cancer and that knocks her on her ass for a bit. Grieves heavily.
-Discovers she can reattach parts of herself with the Splinters, but missing chunks cannot be regrown and leave scarring. (Shot point blank and is missing some of her back because of it. Starburst scar now present.)
Items always on her person:
-Discovers there are certain chemicals that make the Splinters react abnormally. Nicotine, adrenaline and a few others make them reactive.
-Mother moves away, effectively leaving her 100% alone. [9/14/24]
-Hello Kitty pez dispenser (used to hold vitamin tablets and pills)
-A jacket (Splinters make her blood thicker and thus blood flow is slower. Body gets colder easier and heartbeat is stronger.)
-Burner phone
-Sling Shot
-Other small trinkets like notepad, pen, spare change and wallet are kept inside inner pockets of jacket
