One of Selyse's biggest problems is that she has a way with words that falls flat. Jon think she wants to sacrifice babies, when all she does is point the more practical solution (Because they had NO WAY to feed all those children and mothers with a war to come. She NEVER refuses once they have Tycho there, and in fact is probably the one who set the system up because Jon doesn't and Stannis isn't even there) She has done ritual sacrifice... And they were her own family who were trying to usurp her own child. The idea that she's not critical of Mel is crazy, she just keeps that private so we don't see it.
