Furthermore, Merlin realizes he himself has gotten closer to the new knights and sorcerers than he let himself get to anyone in hundreds of years... And he doesn't know how many more times he can take the pain of losing people he cares about. “I never thought I could miss someone this much.”
Taken from the canon/post riverdale episode universe where Sabrina is alive but Nick is dead. It’s angsty sorry not sorry
Sabrina was always one to make decisions based on matters of the heart rather than what her brain told her was rational. Whether it’s raising a boy from the dead or splitting herself in half, she acted without thinking nearly every day. So it had been no surprise to Ambrose that Sabrina had jumped right into finding a way to bring Nicholas back when she’d realized she had been brought back to the land of the living and her dear Nicholas well…had not.
She’d been angrier than he’d ever seen his baby cousin be, promptly packing a suitcase and escaping into the academy to sleep in Nicholas’s former room, pouring over his wide collection of books to find some way to bring him back. And as happy as he was that Sabrina was back Ambrose had begged the aunties not to do it, at least not do it in this way. And Nicholas, well his brain lived in his heart when it came to Sabrina just as hers did. He was every bit as stubborn as her and more than willing to give up his own life if it meant that Sabrina would live again. Ambrose would call them the perfect pair, if their circumstances weren’t so tragic.
No Ambrose hated his aunties and Nick for what they did on days like today, when Sabrina wouldn’t be found with the familiar fire in her eyes and ten books deep in the library. No days like today she’d be found curled in a ball in her bed, clutching some sweater or shirt that had belonged to Nick, crying buckets of tears that never seemed to end. Ambrose saw utter devastation in his baby cousin’s eyes. And on days like today he wondered if what they’d done was worth it.
The aunties had hoped his leaving would be gentle, like the breeze from a gently cracked window. Nick banked on slipping away as Sabrina slept, kissing her forehead before the psychopomps stole him away. It wasn’t like that though, his death if you could really call it that. It was harsh and sudden and painful. The pomps took their more beastly form with their fangs and blood-red eyes and feathers that could cut glass. The henchmen of the planes must have known that they’d need all the force they could come up with if they were to claim the soul they were owed. Sabrina Spellman would not let Nicholas Scratch go quietly. Her outcry when she’d realized what was happening was guttural, voice hoarse as she begged Nick not to go, fingers breaking his skin as she dug into his arms to keep him there. But death yanked him from her and he apologized with tears in his eyes, the pomps dragging him away before he could give her even a single kiss goodbye. It was a devastating sight and Ambrose couldn’t get the sound of Sabrina’s wail out of his head. There were similar ones coming from her room again tonight.
Ambrose stood outside her bedroom contemplating what to do, whether or not he should go in and attempt to comfort her. He knew there was little to be done to ease her pain other than agree to help bring Nick back, which of course he was already doing. But if the sound of her tears gave any clue then he knew that there would be no researching tonight. Ambrose took a breath as Salem’s voice filled his head.
Come in. She needs you.
Ambrose sighed before cracking open the door. He knew who Sabrina really needed was Nick, and he’d do anything to get his baby cousin back her love.
The door creaked as he opened it and Sabrina lifted her head from the pillow, sniffling as she went back to her tears. She wiped her nose and hiccuped and seemingly began to cry more once Ambrose sat next to her on the bed.
“Hey there, cousin.” Ambrose scooted back until he rested against her headboard and laid a comforting hand on her waist.
“Hey.” Another hiccup and sniffle. She cuddled closer to what Ambrose deduced was a maroon sweater, pressing her nose into it to inhale whatever remnants of his scent still lay on the fabric.
“Come here.” Ambrose breathed out and pulled Sabrina up, helping her put Nick’s sweater over her clothes and tugging her to lay her head on his chest. He let her cry into him for a few minutes and ran his hand through her hair. Her tears slowed down eventually and she looked up at Ambrose and smiled sadly when he wiped her remaining tears away.
“Today’s a bad day, huh?” Ambrose asked he softly and she nodded, fending off a fresh wave of tears.
“Yesterday I was determined, Ambrose. The day before I was pissed, and today…” She wiped a silent tear from her face. “Today is unbearable.”
“Grief comes in waves, cousin.” Ambrose squeezed her tightly. “It’s okay that you feel different things.”
“I don’t want to feel this way, Ambrose.” Sabrina sniffled before wiping her nose with the sleeve of Nick’s sweater, pausing to sniff it as her eyes fluttered closed. “I just want him back.”
“I know, cousin.” Ambrose kissed the top of her head. “I know.”
“I just-” Sabrina paused. “I never thought I could miss someone this much.” She pressed her lips together. “I thought Hell was bad but this…”
“This is temporary. Even if it takes a thousand years, cousin, we will get your warlock back.” Ambrose encouraged her and gave her a genuine and encouraging smile. If he knew one thing it was that they’d find a way to get him back. And as confident as Sabrina usually was, there were some days where she needed someone else to give the pep talk.
Sabrina returned the smile and took a deep breath, wondering if she had any more tears left to cry. She was sure they’d come, whether later tonight or in a week. But for now that determination was back and all she wanted to do was work until Nick was back and wearing the maroon sweater instead.

*squeals with joy* "Where's Kacchan?" joining OIT in the 400s I'm so happy people are liking these stories so far, because I've loved every second spent writing them. <3
You know what's heartwarmingly beautiful is that in canon and fan created world Regina Mills will always have that nagging feeling that she somehow doesn't deserve happiness and it's only Henry and Emma that can get through to her and lead her to believe that she does in fact deserve it
