Just how fucked-up were the painted family's dynamics, honestly? "The pain of losing you — she made me inherit it"? And I assume it's not something Aline painted into them after the Fracture — it was there during those first seven-ish years of their life when everything was "normal", wasn't it?

Like, here's your son/brother. You feel like you remember his death. He is alive and well. A part of you is actively mourning him. His death never happened. Deep down you know where his grave is supposed to be. You walk past that spot every day, there's nothing there. You feel like something is missing. His mother loves him so much, she treats him like he is something precious that can be taken away at any moment. You feel this deep guilt looking at him and you have no idea why. He plays the piano for you every evening and laughs while making up these silly songs for his sisters. You know what he sounds like when he is burning alive. He never burned alive, his little sister did, she even has these scars as a constant reminder — but everyone in the family (with the exception of Verso himself, probably. hopefully.) subconsciously feels like it's not that bad because there was someone who got hurt more. There wasn't anyone else caught in that fire. You're sure there was. You KNOW there wasn't.

I just need to study them under a microscope.
