What's the best canvas size?

idk but starting on a big canvas and eventually cropping it works best for me! If its small it usually gets pixelated. I usually start w 1800x2400 and visa versa depending on the orientation of the canvas. I usually go bigger from there or crop accordingly 🥰

i actually have a few programmed canvas sizes in my SAI! lemme give you the specs on em.

(i measure my canvas sizes in pixels)

printing resolution - 300 pixels/inch for all sizes.

verticle art - 1500x2500 (yes i know i spelled verticle wrong in the screencap, it’s fine. pages for my webcomic Hellbound also uses this canvas size.)

horizontal art - 2500x1500

blog art - (art for my ask blog @askcollegepark ) 1500x1000

arc size - (size i use for my story arc/comics over at the ask blog)  2500x3700

Is there a way to find the halfway point of a canvas?

Add a new layer. Draw a line from the top left corner to the bottom right, and another line from the top right corner to the bottom left. Where the two lines cross is the middle of the canvas. 

Alternatively, if you know your canvas size, and watch the status bar very carefully as you move the cursor, the status bar gives you X, Y coordinates relative to the top left corner of the canvas, so you can see when your cursor is at the middle.

All the pens for some reason are this thin rough brush and every time I change it it stays the same what can I do to fix it?? All i did was just open fire alpaca and that's it

If you try to use a very large canvas (e.g. you try to use 1000x1000 inches instead of 1000x1000 pixels), it might look like that. (Firealpaca limits you to a maximum 20000x20000 pixels - at normal screen resolution of around 96dpi, that’s about a monitor 17 feet each way).

Try File menu, new, set your units to pixel first before typing in any numbers, then set your canvas to Full HD size by typing in the numbers for 1920x1080 pixels. Use your mouse wheel or the Navigator to zoom to 100%

Can you change size of canvas on MBP and of so how?

Yes! Under the Edit menu:

Canvas Size will change the size of the canvas but not change the size of any existing content (for example, if you want to keep your artwork the same size but there was not enough room to paint your character’s feet).

Image Size will change the size of the canvas and the existing content on all layers. (Good for resizing an existing image for another purpose, for example, posting on Tumblr).

However, note that newer versions of FireAlpaca also have File menu, Export, similar to Edit menu, Image Size but you only resize the output, not the project.
