CA:CW Theory #53

The footage we’ve seen of our various ‘good guys’ fighting against each other is the majority of such scenes- In reality, being pitted against each other is secondary to a larger plot with more nefarious schemes by people with Crossbones and Hydra. Specifically, I believe Martin Freeman’s character is the ‘true’ Baron Zemo, or is at least some sort of HYDRA/government asshole in the vein of Pierce.

Likelihood: 54%

Evidence for:

Footage in past MCU trailers (ESPECIALLY the WS trailer) were purposefully manipulated to obscure the nature of the plot and many characters

The Russo brothers have said they initially planned a much different movie- So presumably, the original plot conflict still exists or could exist in the MCU

Everret Ross is a fairly small character in the Cap comics, yet they cast a very well-known white guy to play him, just as they did with Alexander Pierce.

There must be a larger force at work that is creating the divide between the heroes

Otherwise, what? General Ross - a dude who Tony, and many others hate- says they need permission from the government and he’s like ‘Sounds good!’. No one on Team Iron Man (esp Nat or Tony) seems like they would be doing this unless there was a larger threat

Alternatively Tony and T’challa are peeved cuz Bucky killed some folks? Tony has got noooooo leg to stand on there, and no way Nat would side with him

Baron Zemo is a major villain in the Cap comics, yet they cast a pretty unknown dude to play him?

In comic ‘canon’, different Zemos have been involved in Bucky’s time as the Winter Soldier- Bucky first ‘died’ on a mission against Zemo, and Zemo has also ‘employed’ the Soldier

It’s an inherited title, implying there could be more than one ‘Baron Zemo’

Evidence against:

The Russo bros also did not plan on having Spiderman, or a dozen other things- They seem fairly adaptable directors, and it’s possible there is nothing of the original Cap3 in the finished movie

Admittedly, Everret Ross is an actual character in the Black Panther comics, so perhaps the character is not just a red herring

Tho I will be pissed if racist scum like Martin Freeman is playing a major ally of Black Panther and Wakanda

This entire theory is motivated by my desire for everyone to get along and thus I am very biased. Initially I thought ‘this is all an elaborate ruse by the Avenger fam to protect Bucky and everyone is just playing a part’ but I need to be reasonable

CA:CW Theory #7

The entire movie is an elaborate vision from Wanda about how terrible it would be if they fought about this shit, the movie ends with a peaceful solution, a ‘Thank goodness it didn’t come to that!’, and the gang argues over who’s turn it is to pick the movie.

Likelihood: 2%

Amended Theory: Some of the terrible and painful things we have seen in the trailer- specifically, Tony cradling a downed, near-death Rhodey- are Wanda induced visions.

Evidence for:

Footage in AoU trailers of terrible and painful things turned out to be Wanda-induced visions

Wanda is working against Tony, and has previously preyed on similar fears to manipulate him

‘Funeral’ footage/pics show Steve as a pallbearer, Steve and Natasha in the church- If Rhodey was the deceased, we would likely see Tony as well

Marvel cannot possibly be stupid and awful enough to kill off the MCU’s longest character of color to further the pain of Tony Stark in a movie that isn’t even an Iron Man film

Evidence against:

Marvel could definitely be stupid and awful enough to do that

One would think Tony would have come up with a way to prevent Wanda from fiddling with his brain by now

It’s pretty fucking impossible to tell what may or may not be Wanda-vision without any context

Likelihood of Wanda shenanigans being in the trailer: 87%

Likelihood of Rhodey’s poor health being Wanda shenanigans: 62%

poi: so shaw, a character who feels her predominant worth is her skill in killing people, has been captured

poi: by an enemy organization bent on world domination through selective extermination of human 'outliers'

think about the avengers and friends having a ‘dress as your favorite (super)hero’ costume party for halloween

and steve shows up in black combat gear with smudged eyes and a silver arm sleeve and bucky is furious

obviously, he knows that everyone is interpreting ‘hero’ sort of loosely (he came as the 9th doctor, and Pepper came as ‘herself’, wearing a dress with a print of hot peppers and a pot on her head) but is the winter soldier some sort of joke to steve? the soldier killed people, and still does, even if now he’s doing it to protect the avengers and-

and steve feels like such an idiot for not realizing that bucky might not take this the way steve intended because ‘you’re my hero, buck, you always have been’ 

and it doesnt matter what he’s wearing or doing, because bucky has protected steve and come back to steve and bucky is so damn brave for all he is doing towards his recovery and going to therapy and making steve go to therapy and-

besides, steve admits, he does think the winter soldier is a hero- being the winter soldier kept bucky alive when steve couldn’t, steve admits. being the winter soldier protected bucky and brought them back together. the winter soldier watched as steve fell and dove after him, dragged him out of the potomac and saved him

and i can change if you want, steve tells bucky, but that wont change that there isnt a single part of you or your history that isnt heroic to me. and bucky stares at him for a long minute before telling him it’s fine, he can keep the costume on

twenty minutes later, sam and natasha reappear from where ever they had vanished to, and over the basics of their original costumes (they came as each other) they are each wearing an aluminum foil arm sleeve of suspect construction and heavy eye make up

but the time the party ends, everyone- even tony, with his ‘all-the-avengers-in-one’ costume- is wearing a silver cuff on their left bicep, carefully folded by sam with a lipstick red star by natasha

they make one for bucky, too

Fic that is needed:

Rebecca Barnes, shooting folks who were involved in the Winter Soldier Project

Like, not ‘Rebecca Barnes is actually a secret agent and badass’ who is somehow super involved in SHIELD shit

i’m talking straight-up little old lady Barnes learns about the hell her brother went through and is DAMN PISSED and sweet talks her way into meeting with Rumlow or Lukin or whoever, because doesn’t she deserve to confront these monsters face-to-face, especially since bucky cant? And they let her, cuz shes just a little old lady, but then she pulls a pistol out of her ugly-ass grandma handbag (like those wicker flower ones) and kills a fucker

and she tells steve that she will be mooooore than happy to go to prison for it, but if he can find a way for her to get away with it, she’ll bake him some of those cookies he likes so much

and everyone’s just so shocked, cuz they forgot that civilians can get angry too, and rebecca isn’t much of a quilter, but she made a weighted blanket for bucky to help with grounding, be a dear and see he gets that, wont you, steve? and natasha is like ‘even i did not see that coming damn’
