This guy dropped by my house the other day... guess I’ll let him stay...
Shaw’s at a restaurant eating breakfast. Pancakes, to be precise. She’s halfway through the fluffy, syrupy deliciousness when her phone lights up with a text from the Machine.
TM: New number.
Shaw: Seriously?
TM: Danger imminent.
Shaw: You better let me finish my damn pancakes.
Based on that ‘Root’s Emergency Uber Service’ post, I like to imagine that, when her passengers (John, Finch, and Shaw) disembark, she shouts to them “Rate me five stars!”
Finch just stares.
John smirks.
Shaw rolls her eyes and maybe thinks Root deserves four and a half.
Kate’s favorite Root moment and a confession: The moment I really knew I actually liked Root as a character was probably God Mode, where she’d grown on me a little bit but was still skeptical of her. But by the time season 3 hit and we saw her in the asylum and when she escaped and requested Shaw’s help in Mors Praematura and was tortured in Aletheia, it was confirmed she was my favorite character in the show--which is probably one of my very favorite moments of hers, particularly when she was speaking for the Machine. It gave me outright chills the first time I ever watched that episode.
Which brings me to a confession: I didn’t like Root at first. Not because I thought she was a bad character or because she tipped the scales of the world we knew, but because of her voice. A stupid reason, probably, but I just remember thinking, back when I was watching all these episodes for the first time, “I don’t like her voice.” But, as expected, the more I watched and the more appearances Root made, the more she grew on me, and by the end of the then-season 4 (I was watching in mid-2015) I was attached, and since then, I haven’t had another favorite character quite like her.
poi: so shaw, a character who feels her predominant worth is her skill in killing people, has been captured
poi: by an enemy organization bent on world domination through selective extermination of human 'outliers'
me: oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck oh fu-
poi: shaw has been brutalized and brainwashed during her captivity
me: no no no no no
poi: and now her girlfriend-who-isnt-really-her-girlfriend-but-is will stop at nothing to save her
poi: even though shaw has been turned against her friends and is now forced to serve her new, evil masters-
me: fuck fuck fuCK JUST GIVE HER A METAL ARM AND KILL ME NOW
“your little girlfriend told us all about it” says Martine while she strokes Root
