If we have become a debt society, it is because the legacy of war, conquest, and slavery has never completely gone away. It's still there, lodged in our most intimate conceptions of honor, property, even freedom. l's just that we can no longer see that it's there.

Douglas C. North proved slavery was profitable at the time of the war. Wait 30 years and technology would have rendered it profitless and slavery would have fallen peacefully.  And had it African Americans and everyone today would be hugely better off.

Tweets from Billionaire “money manager” Ken Fisher about why Abraham Lincoln was his “least favorite president” (since he ended slavery 30 years too soon, in Fisher’s estimation)-- Fisher deleted various tweets shortly after his firm got fired by three clients “representing over $900 million in client assets” because on October 8, 2019 he gave a speech at a CEO summit about “derogatory comments about genitalia, picking up girls and financier Jeffrey Epstein, among other topics.” 

Part of the speech was about how “charities are immoral” and other parts were about “tripping on acid.”  At other conferences, when asked what he would do different, Fisher responded “get laid more.” 

But 90% of the candidates for the Democratic nomination thinks people are being too hard on billionaires, though, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. (X)
