2020 Cap-Iron Man Exchange Gifts unveiled on December 31st

It’s the fifth day of reveals! Each day we will be revealing gifts created by 2020 Cap-Iron Man Holiday Exchange and Community Gifts Event participants. The gifts will remain anonymous until January 11th, giving everyone a chance to enjoy the works and guess the identities of creators. (Remember, if you've got a work in the collection, please remain anonymous until after creator reveals!)

Here are today’s gifts!

★ Been Alone Here for Cap Iron Man Community (MCU, 4572 words)

“I didn’t know you lived here,” Tony says before Steve can jump to conclusions. Not that Steve would. Or, at least, the Steve he used to know wouldn’t. “I retired, and Rhodey, he picked the place without me knowing, if it’s a problem, then—” “Why would it be a problem?” “Because I was an asshole.” Steve smiles, a soft curve of his mouth that Tony was never able to resist. “You had a problem,” Steve says softly. “I don’t blame you.”

★ don't want that living in your head for Fluffypanda (Marvel's Avengers video game, 3000 words and art)

He’s dead. Steve still finds it hard to believe considering he’s standing alive and well at his own statue in Avengers Park a whole year after A-Day. It’s surreal to look down where they’re holding a vigil at his feet. He’s always hated how they got his nose wrong, it’s too perfect. His own nose is just a tad bit lopsided, but no one would guess because they think he’s the peak of human perfection. Or, he was.

A fic where Steve is dead but not really, his soul is just not in his body at the moment. Set during the five years between A-Day and Tony finding Steve on Ambrosia.

★ Ghost Town for Cap Iron Man Community (Marvel 1872, 607 words)

The rider has been going for a long time.

★ i'll wait in line (always) for MK_Yujji (MCU, 8886 words)

“I think it’s a great idea.” Steve does a double-take at that. In fact, everyone’s staring at Tony in puzzlement. Except for Natasha but that's hardly surprising. Nothing fazes her. What's surprising is Tony's reaction. The Tony in front of them can’t be the same Tony who has to be dragged or hauled out of his workshop for meals or gatherings, let alone galas and big parties. For him to willingly agree to be set up on blind dates by his friends is a huge breakthrough. A breakthrough Steve hates but a breakthrough nonetheless. (Or the five Avengers who set Tony up on a blind date and the one Avenger who ends up being Tony's blind date.)

★ Pretty Face for GotTheSilver (MCU, 3112 words)

This wasn’t how he’d thought the evening would go. It was unexpected in its entirety, from start to... well, not exactly finish, because it still wasn’t over yet.

★ The Steve Rogers problem for ABrighterDarkness (MCU, 8160 words)

Tony Stark is sure he's not in love with Steve Rogers. That would be absurd. And preposterous. It's just that seeing him upset makes him want to fix it by any means necessary. And maybe he also wants to hold Steve’s hand and take him out on dates and travel the world with him. Which is totally normal okay? Steve just has a very holdable hand. But when Steve asks him to visit the children's hospital with him, Tony isn't prepared to witness how good Steve is with kids. As Steve opens up to him more, convincing himself he's not in love might have just gotten a little harder.

If you’re the creator of a gift that’s now been revealed, you can reply to any comments and stay anonymous — AO3 will automatically show you as "Anonymous Author" until the creator reveals. Finally, you may want to change the publication date of your work to today’s date so that it shows up at the top of AO3's feeds. 2020 Cap-IM Holiday Exchange Announcement

Yes — the Cap-Iron Man Holiday Exchange has arrived!

The Cap-Iron Man Holiday Exchange is our annual fanwork exchange for Steve/Tony art and fic. Participants will be matched to one another to secretly create a Steve/Tony fanwork for another participant. Gifts may be fic (minimum 1000 words) or art (traditional or digital medium).

At the end of December the gifts will be revealed anonymously in batches, and then in early January the creators will be revealed!

Community Gifts are also back! Don’t miss out on some low pressure Steve/Tony fun this winter!

2020 Cap-Iron Man Holiday Exchange and Community Gifts Guessing Post

All works have now been revealed — this year we received a total of 102 fanworks between the exchange and community gifts! We'd like to extend a warm thank you to all of our incredible participants!

The gifts will remain anonymous until January 11th. Until then, it’s time to GUESS THE CREATORS!

Feel free to share your guesses and discuss your ideas in the comments on our Dreamwidth Guessing Post (anonymous comments are turned on, and you don't need an account to comment), or discuss your thoughts in our Cap-IM Challenges Discord server.

Please remember not to give away your own gift if you took part in the event.

The Cap-IM Holiday Exchange (HE) and Community Gifts make up our end-of-year joint event.  In the exchange, each participant is matched to create work — either art or fic — for their giftee. For Community Gifts, prompts are submitted by anyone who has them, and after the list is revealed, everybody can create fills for the prompts as a ‘gift’ to the Cap-IM Community. Mod activity begins in Sept/Oct and extends into mid-January 2021.

If you are over 18 and would be interested in teaming up with the comm mods to help mod this year’s Holiday Exchange and Community Gifts, please send us an email at [email protected] expressing your interest and any experience and skills you bring to the table.

Whether you have previous experience with taking part in or modding a fandom challenge or community, or are just looking to get more involved with the Cap-IM comm, we’re happy to hear from you!

Potential responsibilities:

Answering emails and other questions/comments about the event

Advertising for the event, including posting on LJ, DW, Pillowfort, Tumblr, Discord and Twitter (note that we have mod accounts so you don’t need to personally be on the platform).

Co-ordinating sign-ups, matching, prompt collation and participant posting

Encouraging participants in their work, including creating inspiration posts

Managing the event’s AO3 Collection

Posting round-ups of submitted fanworks

Whether you’re battling blizzards or hellish heat, we’re here for you this holiday season as we close 2020 with some joy. Remember, if something happens and you do need to drop out, you can do so without penalty before the HE deadline.

2020 Cap-IM Holiday Exchange: 2 Week Deadline Reminder

If holiday music is unavoidable every time you turn the radio on or step into a store, then you know the Cap-Iron Man Holiday Exchange assignment deadline is coming up! Like Mariah Carey, all we want for Christmas is you(r finished fanwork submitted by the deadline)!

Your HE assignments are due at 22:00 UTC on December 19th (what time is it for me?). You can find all the information links, including the FAQ and exchange guidelines, here in our main post.

If you finish early or aren’t taking part in the exchange, don’t forget that we have over 500 prompts you can fill as Community Gifts! You have until 22:00 UTC on December 27th (what time is it for me?) to pick prompts and create fills - no sign-up required, and fills can be any format.

Don't forget to submit your exchange and community gift fanworks to the Cap-IM Holiday Exchange Collection on AO3.

For the HE Community Gifts -- is there any way we could remain anonymous? So even after the reveals, my work would still be under anon? Thank you for organizing this event!

Hi there,

It depends what level of anonymity you are after.

If you don’t want the Community Gifts fill directly connected to your username, you can post it to the 2020 HE AO3 Collection AND the AO3 Anonymous Collection.

This means that even after we reveal and de-anon all the HE and Community Gift works, your work will remain anonymous for as long as the AO3 Anonymous Collection is set to “Anonymous” (the collection is specifically for this, but ultimately you’re not able to change the setting of the Collection so you’re relying on that stay the same. Having said that, the collection has been running since 2010).

Be aware that people looking at your profile will be able to see that you have a work or works in the "Anonymous" collection, and could deduce the fandom from your list of fandoms and potentially link the work back to you.

You have two other options:

You can email your work to the mods and we can post it on your behalf using our AO3 Cap-Iron Man mod account. This means that you will not be associated to the work in any way, but you also won’t get any notifications on kudos etc.

You can post and then orphan your work before the creator reveals. Please note that this is permanent and irreversible—you are giving up control over the work, including the ability to edit or delete it, and you are unable to reclaim it.
