Already some $4 billion has flowed out of Israeli banks in the wake of the proposed judicial reforms, with European bank HSBC joining JPMorgan to suggest political turmoil could significantly damage Israel’s economy. The changes pose such a grave economic threat, a member of Israel’s monetary committee — the Israeli equivalent of the American Federal Reserve Board of Governors — resigned in protest. Even former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, who attended MIT in the 1970s alongside Netanyahu, told Bloomberg that Netanyahu’s judicial reforms, which raise “serious and profound questions about the rule of law,” “could have quite serious adverse effects on the Israeli economy.”

€2.1 Billion Meltdown of BMW: Free Ice Cream Causes Racist Chaos in China | Stop Hating Foreigner!
China Observer
BMW's recent incident in China has sparked an unprecedented public relations crisis for the German automaker. The controversy began at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 19th, where two female staff members at the BMW MINI booth refused to give free ice cream to a Chinese visitor, claiming it had all been distributed. Later, a foreigner was given ice cream without any issues. The video of the incident went viral on Weibo, leading to a wave of boycotts and causing BMW's stock price to drop by 3.62% on April 20, wiping out 2.16 billion euros of its market value. The incident may have deeper implications, as the Chinese Communist Party may be using it to divert attention away from a major fire incident and to stimulate nationalistic sentiments, putting pressure on Germany. This is due to unfavorable comments made by the German Foreign Minister during a recent visit to China(..)
P.S. Well, what kind of useful and greedy fool still wants to invest In China's Communist Party controlled economy??? Advise for Latvians: It is time to move money and supply chains out from communist China! Xi Jinping steers China towards a dictatorship and sooner or later there will be a war caused by him in the Far East... China will NOT have a HAPPY and PROSPEROUS FUTURE under the control of the communist regime
Tho as always, an effective way to deal with threats of Capital fleeing to a different country is to say "sure go ahead, that factory belongs to its workers now"
Weird how few States go for that approach. Wonder Why.
Brexiter Ineos boss, who has an estimated £17.5bn fortune, officially changes tax domicile
As capital flight (people relocating due to high tax rates) increases and interest in investment and entrepreneurship diminishes, the question remains: who will pay for the programs Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are promising?
Not saying this as an argument but the problem w/ Social Democracy is that while its ok to live under during its peak years (post-War US, Scandinavia, “SocDem” phases in Germany/France), it can really only exist in the “core” economic countries and stays afloat via exploitation of the Global South’s labor/resources in a global “”free”” market. Also as long as there’s a capitalist class vying for power it’ll either crumble to Neoliberalism or Capital Flight. (As we’re seeing now even in Norway)
I don’t agree with the premise, really.
Even in the midst of the 2008 crash, Iceland (where such policies were implemented) continued to be successful, though of course to a lesser extent than in “good times”. It also bounced back from 2008 far quicker than larger, more economically durable countries like the US and UK.
Social Democracy is stronger in rich countries, of course, because they’re rich. That doesn’t means that they necessitate being rich, due to the existence of #3.
Economic structures and models grow stronger the more of them there are; that’s just a simple fact. The U.S.S.R. was an economic force because it was capable of enforcing its economic and political structure over a wide swath of Europe, similarly with China and SE Asia. The amount of countries practicing effective and comprehensive Social Democracy is relatively small compared to the amount of countries practicing corporatist lassez-faire economic structures, and those two lists aren’t mutually exclusive, either.
Capital Flight only exists on a grand scale when there are places less restrictive thta offer the same benefits. A solid example of this is Amazon having cities bid to host their second headquarters recently. Turns out, they didn’t actually care which “bid” was the best; they’d already decided that they were going to a highly-post-industrial city with significant local infrastructure and support regardless of who gave them what. That’s why they chose NYC and Arlington. They were never going to go to Kansas City or Tallahassee because those cities just don’t have the support and/or prestige necessary. People leaving Norway aren’t going to Cambodia; they’re going to countries like France, the UK, and Germany. There’s a reason why Capital Flight had headed to Europe and North America to the tune of $16.3 trillion.
There’s a bit more to it, but that’s a general gist.
The Midnight Maneuver – Why Newsom is Rushing to Sink the Billionaire Tax
California Governor Gavin Newsom is aggressively lobbying legislative leaders to sink a proposed state wealth tax on billionaires before the June 25, 2026, legislative deadline, citing concerns over severe capital flight and the volatility of taxing unrealized gains. The clock is running out in Sacramento. If the bill advances past the final committee cutoff, it heads to the floor. The governor…
