Ich liebe Berlin!
Last weekend I visited the Hauptstadt for the first time and I have to say that I fell in love with it. The one adjective which always springs to mind when describing Berlin is cool. There are so many cool places to visit, so many cool bars, cafes and restaurants to go to, so many cool things to see and so many cool people to meet.
When I arrived in Berlin on Friday to catch up with my friend from university and to enjoy an amazing weekend exploring the Hauptstadt, I had no idea where to start! There are so many places of interest that I wanted to see, Berlin has such an astonishing yet dark past. But it isn’t just the historic places I wanted to visit, I wanted to visit the places that the ordinary young residents of Berlin go to; Berlin IS the party capital of the world!
Fortunately, my friend and I was able to meet up with one of our fellow Russian students, who currently resides in Berlin and very kindly pointed us in the right direction and showed us some cool areas of Berlin. One thing I learnt is that the East is where it’s at, particularly the area of Kreuzberg. I really enjoyed sipping cocktails at a bar opposite Schlessisches Tor station, where there was a DJ and singer performing in the open window of the bar. I also loved the atmosphere at Simon-Dach Strasse, where I again relentlessly sipped cocktails and then headed to the nearby clubs located in an old factory site and danced and drank the night away until I had to walk the walk of shame at 8.30am...
I had an unforgettable weekend and cannot wait to visit Berlin again at the end of the month!
