Capitol Look: Craig Green

One look at Craig Green’s A/W 15 collection and you feel the intensity. It’s bold, striking, unapologetic. That’s what stood out most to our Capitol Couture editors, who are naming Craig Green “One to Watch” this year. Green is transforming the way we think about menswear, creating statement pieces that reinvent movement and form.

In collaboration with Nick Knight, the two set out to turn fashion into pure anguish. The result is a breathtaking spectacle that breathes life into Green’s collection: architectural details become limbs, models become warriors vying for territory. Through fashion, they have declared war.

Green’s collection is all about power. Something we could all use at this present moment. Remember: fashion is more than pretty things, it has the ability to instill us with strength and confidence. Something as small as a gold Mockingjay pin can become a symbol for an entire movement. The next time you suit up, think of what empowers you, so you too may venture forth in a blaze of glory.

Capitol Look: Anchovy

Make a statement in silk. Capitol Couture is proud to introduce Anchovy, an unexpected label making its debut in District 4. If you ask us, these grave times are in desperate need of a dash of color, and these scarves are just the answer. Their latest collection of scarves entitled “Full Moon” is all anyone is talking about around the offices, and we are proud to share them with you.

These large-scale scarves are made from Habutai silk, originally used in Japanese kimonos (Anchovy only uses the finest materials they can source). Let us be the first to tell you, there are infinite way to wear them—pair one with your fatigues, wave it like a flag or wrap it around your head like a turban (we’re looking at you Effie). No doubt the addition of an Anchovy scarf makes any look a Capitol look.

By now you must be curious—why the name Anchovy? “Because most interesting things are either loved or hated,” says the team. This lifestyle brand stemmed from a simple idea: create a piece of software that turns words into colors. This technology became a beloved tool for the team (and their kids) and opened their eyes to a whole new world of patterns and palettes that have now become wearable pieces.

Anchovy reminds us that inspiration can be found anywhere, and even a little fish can make a big splash.

Andrej Pejic with Sam H Snyder Design

In the spring of January 2011, Andrej Pejić took the modeling world by storm.  The first model to walk the catwalk in both Jean-Paul Gaultier's men’s and women's shows, Pejić's androgyny lends her a quality rarely found in the world of high fashion.  From the runway to the television screen to a music video for the legendary David Bowie, Pejić has made an unique career out of her singular look and extraordinary versatility.   

Branching into design territory, Pejić recently collaborated with Sam H Snyder Design to create her first line of jewelry.  Self-described as "an amalgamation of Bauhaus and industrial design components," Sam H Snyder features sleek, clean, chunky jewelry in precious metals with seemingly architectural influences.  Featuring precious metals direct from District 2, their collaboration with Pejić remains close to these sensibilities yet seamlessly incorporates organic elements not found in their typical pieces. With Pejić's collection including rings, bracelets and necklaces, we here at Capitol Couture can hardly wait to see what's next for this budding designer.

Mary Katrantzou / Swarovski

  Mary Katrantzou has a significant history of collaboration under her belt.  Known as the "queen of prints", Katrantzou has leant her design and striking patterns to capsule collections with luxury leather company Longchamp, the hip British Topshop, the iconic outerwear pillar Moncler, and the ballet-chic Repetto, among others. Her longest and most prolific collaboration (meticulously crafted in the artisan workshops of District 1) is with The Swarovski Collective, spanning over 7 seasons of rainbow runways.

To create these collections of kaleidoscopic color, Katrantzou "uses Swarovski crystals to give the garments heightened texture, working together to push the boundaries of surface and textile design." Between Katrantzou's exquisite eye for patterns and Swarovski's dazzling gems, this pair creates elaborate clothing confections tailor-made for the streets of the Capitol.

WOW. 

Although not on the same level as Katniss Everdeen's jaw-dropping interview dress we saw tonight, this Mockingjay headpiece is a must-have for any Everdeen fan. I know I'll be wearing mine tomorrow at the start of the games. I know who I'm betting on.
