What are good resources for learning the mechanics of the ships in the age of sail? Just stuff like how the ships were rigged, how many masts they had. How would a ship change the rigging to go faster, or adjust to conditions? I'm trying to do a bit of writing about it and I can't find many resources about how a pirate ship actually works.

Aye thar be many resources on how things were day in th’ Golden Age. One of th’ best methods is combining resources are there are lots of contradictions throughout official texts and accounts. Some of my personal Favorite Books on the subject are as follows

All of these be right helpful tid bits fer understandin th’ aspects of sealife durin that time. Always keep in mind that shipwrights from that day and age held closely their designs and methods as it was the only way to keep their edge.

"Both sides" he tips back another sip. A favor isn't cheap and by no means is something lime words easily buy it. "It be somethin' if I 'have been lead awild, somethin' You have knowledge of aye?" Smiling at a Favorite rum shared with a fine lass.

"Aye," she replied with a firm nod. She had been in the Caribbean for some time now and had traveled seas that most pirates did not dream of visiting. Not to mention she was far more clever than most gave her credit for and while she was skilled in the rigging of a ship she could use a compass and map as well as any seasoned captain."I assume there is specific goal in mind?"

"Curiosity spurs action" the rough buccaneer almost shines. He knows that first moment of speculation built off of word of mouth. "I'm in need of someone who knows th' seas on sides o' th main" a wink as lift of the bottle.

"On this side of the main land?" she questioned as she resisted the urge to roll her eyes at the wink, knowing full well the fast-talking pirate captain was speaking circles around her and though she could not keep up, she understood. However, she could smell opportunity in the air like fragrant spices, and she was intrigued.

A glance off to the side almost to his own past "Aye missy, few of us can escape reputation." Joy not missing but truth and honesty there on the rum soaked words "You know the talk of fishermen and sailors" his grin returning as he gestures another

Her smile stretched into a small, crooked grin. Shih, though a woman, was as much of a pirate as any man and she knew all too well the talk of 'fishermen and sailors' and what that might just entail. She had been introduced to such talk at far too young of an age but, she so rarely had the chance to indulge her vanity she would not pass up the opportunity.

"You continue to speak of reputation and talk and I am becoming curious."

Seeing a small amount of unease, which was far from unfamiliar to his own entanglements, he began "a favorable one if I we're t' describe it in a single word" a swig following "ye 'ave no fear from me." A pause "someone o' law wouldn't come wit rum"

Her momentary panic having passed, a small smile crossed the she-pirate's features as she relaxed a little more into her seat. She was satisfied with his answer, for now, though she could not help but feel curious as to whom he had heard of her from.

"I was not aware I had reputation here - yet," she replied.

Bringing himself to sit across from the pirate lass, another smile crosses a somewhat grizzled chin. "Well I'd be lyin' if I said it were all professional, but ye do 'ave a reputation. " His tone real as he downed the rum and began pouring another.

She could not help but frown behind her mug as she sipped, feeling the blood drain from her face as she wondered if word of her life before leaving the China Sea had made it to Nassau. Shih had wished to keep that rather quiet, in the past and forgotten as she created a new life for herself.

Subconciously, she rubbed the bottom of the foot bearing her mistress' brand on the top of her other."And just what sort of reputation might that be?"
