"Just come with me for a second" your friend said, "I just have to find Barnesy and then we can go study."
"Fine..." you blew out an exaggerated exhale, "but we really are here to study... I'm not gonna watch you two make out in the stacks" you said, "this stupid astronomy class is kicking my ass... I have to study for the test... and you told me you'd help with the adoption drive... it's only about a month away..."
"Yeah... this'll be just a sec... I promise" your friend said, but you weren't convinced as you trudged after her- your bag feeling too heavy with all your textbooks.
She let out a squeal when she finally found her boyfriend amongst the other athletes- lining the library tables- for their mandatory weekly study sessions.
"Clover!" Barnesy smiled, standing and pulling her into his arms, they immediately started making out like they were the only ones in the room.
"Ugh" you groaned, looking away as you tried not to roll your eyes.
Sure, you were happy for your friend, but you had so much to do in the next few weeks. Volunteering at the local animal shelter was a huge part of your life and their annual adoption drive was really important to you. The shelter, already low on resources, was over run with dogs and cats and you really needed to find good homes for all of them.
"There she is..." a blonde haired jock at the table next to you simpered as you looked around, trying to find the unlucky lady he was shamelessly flirting with, "whatcha studying, cutie? The stars?"
Your gaze fell -feeling the flaming discomfort of second hand embarrassment- as you shifted awkwardly, wishing you were just about anywhere else instead of standing in the middle of this meatball sub.
You looked around, fidgeting on the spot and absentmindedly flipping the textbook in your arms, seeing the word Astronomy scrawled across the top.
"Oh..." you squeaked, wide eyes snapping up to meet the meatball's amused smirk. Your eyes narrowing as you frowned back at him.
"Cat got your tongue, cutie?" he cooed, drawing his bottom lip between his teeth. He was enjoying watching you squirm.
"No" you scoffed, "I... I didn't realize you were talking to me" you looked to your friend for back up, but she was still lip-locked with Barnesy.
"It's OK" the blonde continued, ignoring your clear disdain, "I know most girls get a little nervous the first time they meet me, but I'm just like any other guy... that's a D1 power forward... and a captain..."
"What?" you snapped, your lip curling in disgust at his meatball game, "seriously who are you?"
When the snickers hissed around you, you looked from table to table- his teammates clearly enjoying their Captain striking out.
"Why don't we get outta here... let an all-star athlete teach you about the stars?" he continued suggestively.
"Hey... y/friend's/n" you called, turning away from the D1 all-star.
You blew out a sigh of frustration, begrudgingly abandoning your plans to study with your friend as you shifted the bag of textbooks you were holding to your other shoulder.
"What do ya' say, sweetheart?" the blonde nudged your hip with his pen, smirking up at you.
Jesus... this doofus was clueless.
"Pass" you said, dismissively as some of the guys around him tried to hide their amusement.
"Hey... clover" you tried again, using your friend's new pet name, "I'm gonna go..."
"Wait, I'll come with you" she turned, but started giggling when Barnesy pulled her back into his chest while tickling her sides.
"Remember.. you're helping me with the adoption drive... you promised" you pointed a finger at your friend, "I guess that means you'll be there too, Barnesy?" you goaded her new boyfriend, "since you guys are attached at the lips..."
"Sure, I'll help" Bucky smiled at you, wrapping clover in his arms and pulling her into him, "I love animals..."
"Great... maybe bring some of your teammates... we can use all the help we can get. The animals really need it" you said, turning to leave.
"Hey... I can help" the golden doofus chimed in- looking more golden retriever then D1 athlete.
He really didn't have a clue.
"I'll see what I can do" Barnesy chuckled, looking from Steve to you.
"Um... maybe don't bring this meatball" you said, leaning into clover and Barnesy as you gestured back towards Steve with your thumb.
"Hey... I heard that... meatball?" Steve snorted as the team broke out in laughter around him.
"Come on... Cappy's not that bad" Barnesy called as you waved goodbye to your friend, weaving through the athletic study hall tables as you left.
"Sure he's not..." you called over your shoulder as the hockey captain narrowed his eyes at you, not enjoying the foreign sinking feeling in his gut while he watched you walk away.

The intercom at your campus apartment buzzed, signally Sam was here- right on time. You walked over to your front door, buzzing him in before returning to your bathroom, toothbrush still in your mouth.
After getting a late start to your day, thanks to a restless night's sleep, you had just finished brushing your teeth- putting your toothbrush away and turning off the water. Walking back down the hall, you heard Sam knock at the front door before a loud thud and string of curses followed.
When you unlocked the door, pulling it open, you couldn't help but laugh. There Sam was stuffing shirts back into an oversized box in a hurry.
"Hey, Sam" you greeted, forcing a smile even though your nerves were a little fried.
"Hey, y/n... I'm uh... sorry" he flashed you a nervous smile from where he knelt on the floor.
"About this or about Captain Meatball?" you teased, bending down to grab the last few tshirts before tossing then into the box.
"Thanks" he looked up at you, "so where do you want these? I still got a couple more boxes in my car... do you need them all now?"
"Oh... come on in" you said, standing and stepping out of his way while holding the door open, "the table is fine" you said, ushering him into your small two bedroom apartment, "and I can ask my roommate to help when you leave- we'll come out and each grab a box..."
"OK" Sam nodded and then his face fell serious, "so....um... about the shirts..." he started, placing the box on the table and avoiding eye contact.
"Sam... I swear to god... I'm going to strangle him..." you grumbled, grabbing a tshirt from the pile and holding it up for inspection.
It didn't look any different, the pretty impressive Pucks for Paws design Cappy had sketched with several dogs and cats was on the front- just as you submitted. You turned the shirt over finding a crisp number 17 with Storm scrawled across the top. The bottom of the shirt had the information for the adoption drive- same design you had submitted to the printing shop.
"I don't get it?" you asked, looking up at Sam, "it's the same..." you narrowed your eyes at him.
"Not all of them" Sam grimaced. You could tell he was uncomfortable- waiting for the other shoe to drop.
"Sam... I don't have time for this..." you huffed, grabbing a handful of shirts and turning them over, "will you just tell me what that asshat did?"
"He changed the quantity of shirts ordered per jersey number... got rid of all the number 7's" Sam blew out a heavy exhale, shaking his head as he shrugged his backpack off and unzipped it.
"What?" you squeaked, "why would he do that?" your voice had gone all shrill, "he knows his jersey is a best seller, right?" you were starting to panic as you riffled through the shirts, "he has to know..."
Sure enough, out of the hundreds of shirts ordered, not one was a number 7. All his other teammates were accounted for- including the underclassman.
"Well... they've gotta be in the other boxes" you rationalized.
Sam just shook his head apologetically without saying a word.
"He did have one number 7 made..." Sam offered, pulling the shirt from the bag and handing it to you.
"How is one shirt going to help?" you were fuming as you took it from Sam, "are we auctioning it off to the highest bidder? He's such a narcissist..." you rolled your eyes with a snarl.
"Well... it's not for sale" Sam said, "it's... uh... for you..."
"For me?" you scowled in confusion, trying to make sense of all of this until your phone vibrated to life in your back pocket. You continued grumbling under-your-breath as you fished it out of your pants, scoffing before you answered it.
"You better have a good explanation for this, Steven" you growled, holding the video call up so he could see the box of shirts, "why would you pull all your shirts from printing when you know everyone's gonna want your number?"
Cappy smirked at the use of his full name- he had never heard you call him Steven before now.
Sam busied himself by digging around in his backpack again.
"Bug... did Wilson give you the other shirt?" Cappy asked.
"What other shirt?" you huffed, looking up at Sam as he presented you with another folded shirt.
You took a deep breath before snatching it from Sam's outstretched hand, scowling at him as he backed away slowly with his hands in the air. You knew it wasn't Sam's doing, but you really felt like shooting the messenger right about now.
"What is this, Cap?" your tone was a little more whiny then you were going for, but you were frustrated and tired, just wanting this to go off without a hitch.
"Read it" Cappy instructed, smirking.
"What?" you snapped, not understanding how any of this was even remotely funny.
"Have any plans tonight, bug?" he asked so nonchalantly it made another wave of fury course through your veins.
You didn't even answer him, just shot him a glare that should have melted your phone screen.
"There's a thing at the barn, my house... tonight before the game tomorrow..." Cappy continued as you ignored him, propping your phone against the box and holding up the shirt.
You let out a dry huff that almost resembled a laugh. OK... this wasn't half bad- but how exactly was this shirt going to help the adoption drive?
"Team Cappy" you read, the screen printed words were crossed out and underneath it in bold text read "Team literally anyone else" holding the shirt up as you smirked.
It was silent for a moment before you spoke again. Steve looked nervous on the other end of the call.
"I don't hate it... but I'm still not following your game plan, Cap" you scowled down at his pretty face on your phone screen.
"Turn it over..." Cappy said, flashing you his boyish grin that made you want to slug him.
"Resistant to Meatball Charms" you snorted a laugh, reading off the text on the back of the shirt. The bottom of the shirt was, thankfully, the same as the others with the info for the adoption drive. You blew out a frustrated exhale, annoyed that this was working- yet again.
"Why don't you try it on... I'll watch... I mean wait" he winked.
"Steve..." you whined, "this isn't a game... those animals are depending on this... on me... I can't let them down."
"Bug... you won't" he insisted as a hiccuped escaped your lips, eyes prickling with tears.
"Shit..." Steve's voice cracked, "are you crying?"
"No" you frowned, but a few more angry tears fell as you tried to sniffle them back.
"Bug... baby... I'm sorry!" Steve sounded genuinely concerned, "shit... I swear I was just trying to be sweet..."
"By messing with the order?" your voice was watery as you scoffed.
"No!" his voice was determined, but you were so frustrated and didn't want him to see you cry- opting to end the call instead.
"Stupid, stupid, pretty... stupid... dumb boy" you huffed, marching into the kitchen to get yourself a glass of water. But you nearly ran into Sam who had escaped to the kitchen to give your heated conversation some privacy.
"Sorry, Sam" you sniffled, walking to the cabinet to take a glass and fill it from the faucet.
Sam stood motionless, not really sure what he should do or say. He had a feeling Cappy's bonehead plan would backfire.
"He's just so stupid... ya know?" you sighed, after taking a sip of your water. You wiped away a stray tear with the back of your hand, eye lashes wet with your emotion.
"Tell me about it" Sam agreed with a chuckle, "there's still time to figure this t-shirt thing out... I can..."
"Hey, y/n" your roommate called, from down the hall, "you OK?" she squeaked when she saw Sam standing next to you, her eyes going wide as she looked down at her bright pink pjs with cupcakes all over them and matching fluffy slippers.
"Yeah... I'm fine... just stupid Captain Meatball" you huffed as your roommate's gaze flicked back to Sam.
"Not Captain Meatball" Sam thumbed his chest in clarification, "I'm Sam" he gave your roommate a soft smile, "hi, there, cupcake" Sam's timbre was molasses on a hot summer day as he offered his outstretched hand to your roommate.
Your roommate froze, looking down at his hand without saying a word before turning in her fluffy slippers and practically scampering back to her room.
"What the hell was that?" you eyed him up.
"That..." Sam smirked, "was cute lunch lady" he said, craning his neck to look down the hall towards your roommate's bedroom.
"Her name's your roommate's name" you corrected, "and she's single, ya know..." taking another sip of water as you leaned against the counter.
"That so?" Sam smirked, "she works in the caf...and she doesn't charge me extra for my breakfast burritos... I always ask for double the filling after morning practice and she never charges me..."
"How romantic" you teased, pushing off the counter and walking back out to the table where the box of shirts sat.
"An' she always gives me more sweet potato breakfast tots then the other guys..." Sam continued, smiling from ear-to-ear.
"Definitely a story for the grandkids..." you continued teasing when a knock sounded at your apartment door.
"Can I get her number?" Sam asked, his gaze following you to the door.
"No way!" you snorted with a laugh, "you want her number you gotta ask her... and don't call her cute lunch lady when you do it..." you said opening the front door- you smile immediately turning to a frown.
You turned around without saying a word, leaving the door open when you walked back into your apartment.
"Bug... lemme explain..." Steve said, rushing in and closing the door behind him.
"And that's my cue..." Sam said, nodding at Cappy and grabbing his bag to leave. He gave you a quick wave before exiting your apartment in a hurry.
"Bug..." Cappy started again when Sam had left, walking over to stand across from you at the table, "I..."
"Screwed up my order... who knows why... and sent Sam to do your dirty work?" you huffed.
"No!" Cappy started again.
"Then why?" you raised your voice, nearly yelling, "why would you do this to me?"
"Bug... I got rid of all the number 7 jerseys because I want you to be the only one to wear my number from now on..." Cappy blurted as his cheeks flushed pink, "I thought I was bein' sweet... a grand gesture or something... but I think I just fucked it all up" he harrumphed, squirming on the spot.
It was the first time you've ever seen him anything but cool, collected and cocky- noting the sweat beading at his forehead.
Your chest tightened and your stomach did a flip. He did this for you?
You closed your eyes, taking a deep breath and forced your face to remain stoic. In your stubbornness, you refused to give away any emotion as you pursed your lips together.
"I had my number made on one shirt..." he continued, "just for you... if you want... or if you're still unsure... you can wear the other one... they both have all the Pucks for Paws information on the back" he exhaled, sinking into a chair before he grabbed his water bottle from his backpack and chugged it.
"Did you run here?" you asked, pulling out a chair and sitting opposite him.
"Yes" he grunted, finishing off his water. Cappy sat silent, watching you and waiting for any indication as to how you were feeling- if you were planning on strangling him or if the next step in his plan was working.
You sat quietly glaring at him, arms crossed as you chewed your bottom lip in contemplation.
"Well, actually... I lied..." he added, unzipping his bag and pulling out a small bundle of fabric, "I did have this one made for Mary" he held up a tiny shirt with the Pucks for Paws design and you couldn't help but swoon when he flipped it over to reveal his name and number 7 on the back of the baby sized shirt.
"Damnit" you frowned at him, your arms still tightly crossed at your chest, "you're such an ass."
"So you're going for option 2 then?" he smirked, "you know you won't match Mary if you do..." he goaded, leaning back in his chair with a soft smile.
"I'm going to kill you if this doesn't work" you huffed, fighting the tug at the corner of your mouth as you pictured you and Mary wearing matching Rogers jerseys.
"I figured" Steve smiled, laughing when you balled your shirt up, throwing it in his stupid pretty face.

"Bug?" Cappy answered the call after the second ring, "you OK?"
"I won't take money from Mary" you exhaled, chewing at your thumbnail as you sat legs crossed in your bed. Your room was pitch black, save for the light from your phone screen. You finally gave in and called Cappy after you had been tossing and turning for nearly an hour.
"...um... good?" Steve laughed, getting up from the living room couch and making his way towards the stairs.
"Cappy... where are you going? It's your turn" you heard a women's voice whining in the background.
"You're busy" you exhaled, rolling your eyes, "I shouldn't have called."
"No, bug! I'm glad you called" you could picture Cappy's warm smile, "that's... nothing. It's movie and game night and some friends of the guys came over."
"It's almost 2am..." you frowned.
"Yeah" Steve agreed, making his way up the steps to his room.
"On a Wednesday" you added.
"Uh... Yeah" he confirmed.
"You do movie and game nights until 2am on Wednesdays?" you asked, "what about classes or practice?"
"The team has late start on Thursday's" Steve said, pushing his bedroom door open and finding Gretzky curled up on his bed. Steve crossed the room before sinking down gently next to the small sleeping cat.
"Everyone on the team?" you asked.
"Everyone on the team" he confirmed, smiling into his phone, "you could come sometime" he offered, "if you're really that worried about my sleep habits..."
"I wasn't..." you huffed before Steve cut you off.
"I'd definitely stay in bed if you tucked me in..." you could almost hear his eyebrows waggle while he mercilessly flirted.
"Meatball" you rolled your eyes, fighting the urge to smirk at his ridiculousness.
"OK..." Steve shrugged, "But seriously" his laugh was warm before he cleared his throat, "you could come over for a movie night... the rest of the team would be here... not just me... it would be nice."
"No thanks" you said, shooting him down -too quickly- before thinking better of it, "but... it's not... I don't... I mean..." your exhale was heavy, struggling to find the words, "I don't hate you."
"Good to know" he laughed, "if you change your mind, next week's movie is Gremlins."
"Gremlins?" you snorted, "that weird 80s movie with the gerbils?"
"They're called Mogwai" Steve snorted, "it's Storm's favorite movie from when he was a kid... I picked Goonies for mine..."
"Oh... well I guess that's kinda cool" you smirked.
There was a long beat, but it was a comfortable quiet.
"So... what's up, ladybug?" Steve finally asked, breaking the silence.
"I... couldn't sleep" you said, narrowing your brows as you faltered for only a second at the new term of endearment, "I know you're trying to be nice... but I won't take Mary's money..."
"You keep saying that" Steve's brows furrowed with confusion.
"Well... it's true..." you were determined.
"Bug... can ya help a guy out here?" Cappy quipped, "I know that beautiful brain of yours is a lot bigger than mine... but I'm not following."
You felt your cheeks heat as you ducked your face, resting your cheekbone on your knuckles and smiling so hard it made your face hurt.
"Oh... uh... yeah" you sputtered, "well, Frank said the team raised money for Mary last year. And I appreciate your offer to help the shelter but I'll find another way... I'm not taking Mary's money..."
"Wait... you don't want to do the adoption drive together anymore?" Steve sat up in bed, the playful list to his voice completely gone.
"It's literally taking money from a baby, Steve" you huffed, frowning when his low chuckle floated through the receiver.
"Is that it?" Steve's voice was warm, ending his chuckle with a sigh of relief.
"Well... yeah... I couldn't stop thinking about it..." you blew out an exhale, "... and I couldn't sleep."
"You're thinking of me in bed, bug?" that peaked his interest.
"No" you chirped, "well...yes... thinking of the adoption drive" you clarified, rolling your eyes at his suggestive tone.
"I'm in bed too" he hummed, hooking an arm under his head as he leaned back on his pillow.
"If you ask me what I'm wearing... I'm gonna hang up on you" you threatened.
When all you heard on the other end was a muffled laugh you blew out an exhale...
"Steve... I'm serious" you whined.
"The fundraiser won't be taking any money from the fund we have set up for Mary" Steve clarified, smirking at your empty threat.
"Good" you sighed, relief rolling through your body as you sank back into your bed, eyelids feeling heavier, "thank you..."
"No problem, sweetheart" Steve's bedroom voice had a low timbre to it that made you shiver, "I'll talk to you tomor..." he started.
"Did you remember the shirts?" you interrupted his goodbye.
"Yes, I remembered the shirts" he smiled, "but I got something tomorrow morning so I asked Sam if he could run them over to your place" Steve said.
"OK... I have a class at 10, but I'll be here before then" you confirmed.
"Yup, already told him he needs to be there at 9 to catch you before you leave" Steve said.
"How did you..." you started to ask, fighting back a yawn.
"Your itinerary" Steve smiled, "you added your schedule in case we needed you... I gave you mine too... on a post it in your new planner."
"I saw that" a small smile spread across your face, "along with your hockey schedule- dates and times of all your games... you even let me know when you'd be away."
"Well... I figured you'd want to plan ahead for when I ask you on a date" Steve's laugh made your heart flutter.
"Who said we're going on a date?" you goaded.
"Well... hopefully you" Steve laughed, "I've got a five step plan to win you over..."
"That's nice" you sighed, only half hearing him as you started to drift off.
"Night, ladybug" Steve murmured into the phone.
"Wait!" you rolled over on your side, not wanting to end the call just yet as you cradled the phone gently to your ear, "will you tell me something? Tell me something about Cappy that not many people know..."
"Like what?" he laughed softly.
"Something you don't use to impress" you smirked, chewing your bottom lip.
"Ummmm... l dunno... I hate peas" he laughed.
"Boo... everyone hates peas" your words were slightly slurred with sleep.
"You're cute" Steve's words were so soft you almost missed them.
"You're cute" you shot back sleepily before your eyes snapped open, "I mean... I..."
"What was that, bug?" You think I'm cute" Steve teased.
"No" you chirped, "I was half asleep!"
"You think I'm cute... no take backs..." Steve continued taunting.
"I'm hanging up" you said, half-heartedly.
"No!" Steve laughed, "OK... OK... something no one knows about me? Um... I was a really sick kid... like really sick" he offered, "bad asthma and always had that croupy kinda cough. But my Ma was a nurse and took me to the best doctors around. They told her to try cold air in the winter when my croup got real bad. It's how I started skating when I was around 3... and then I got stronger and started hockey when I was a little older" Steve said.
"Wow... Mr beefcake meatball? A sickly kid? I would have never guessed" you teased affectionately.
"Yeah, hockey's made my lungs stronger. I still have exercise induced asthma but it only gets real bad if I gotta do shifts back-to-back" Steve said.
"You learned how to skate when you were 3?" you sounded a little shocked.
"Yup" Cappy shrugged.
"I don't know how to skate" you yawned.
"Well, we're gonna have to change that" Steve smiled.
"Stop... that's so cliche" you snorted, "I'm not doing the movie scene, falling-kiss with you..."
"What?" Steve laughed, "I have no clue what you're talking about... everyone should know how to skate..."
"It's a rom-com thing..." but when Steve didn't have anything to add to that, you carried on, "you actually wanna teach me how to skate?" you asked, "no ulterior motive?"
"Yeah" he shrugged, sitting up and leaning against the wall.
"I can't picture you teaching anyone how to skate" you laughed.
"Hey... I've helped out at mini mite camps back home" he said, "I'm gonna teach Mary too" he continued, "gonna get her her first pair of skates... and no figure skates, hockey skates."
"Can Mary even walk?" you smiled, your stomach doing a flip at how cute Steve was with Frank's niece.
"She's crawling and can pull herself up to stand" Steve said, "she'll be ready soon."
"That'll be cute" you smiled into the phone.
"You can come watch" Steve offered, "if you want... I can teach you both..."
"Frank wouldn't mind?" you asked.
"Not at all... Frank really likes you... he's never that... non cranky" Steve said with a laugh.
"He likes me?" you smirked, "maybe you could... give him my number..." you goaded.
"Really?" Cappy huffed, not sure if you were serious or not.
"Yeah... I mean he's really cute" you smirked, "and then there's Mary" you teased.
"But I introduced you to Mary!" Steve grumbled.
"You think Frank would teach me how to skate?" you were just being mean now.
"Really?" Cappy's voice went up an octave.
"No... you doofus! I'm messing with you" a fit of sleepy giggles followed before you added, "as much as I know I'll regret it... I kinda have my eye on another meatball" your heart was kicking against your ribcage.
"I knew it" Cappy sat up, pumping a fist into the air as he jumped up from his bed, scaring Gretzky in the process, and doing his go-to goal celly.
"Don't ruin it" you whined, rolling your eyes as you laughed at the image of him celebrating while jumping around his room.
"So... you wanna come over after the game this weekend?" his excitement with palpable.
"Won't Bonnie or any of your other adoring fans be disappointed?" you smirked.
"No" Steve shrugged sitting back down on his bed before his tone dropped serious, "I'm not seeing anyone. Frank wasn't lying... I haven't had a girl over since that night."
"Bully for you" your voice was dripping with sarcasm, "you know that's not really an accomplishment, right? Most people aren't bedding a new person every night..."
"Bedding a new person" Steve snorted.
"What?" you frowned.
"Nothing... I just like the way you talk..." he smiled, "you remind me of Frank."
"I remind you of your best friend?" you asked, "isn't that weird?"
"No" Steve shrugged, "I kinda like it."
"So... say I do come over... what will we do?" you asked, "I'm not showering with you..."
"Like just this weekend or ever?" Steve asked.
"What?" you squeaked.
"You'd never shower with me?" Steve smirked.
"What?... I... no" you felt your cheeks flush with warmth.
"Never?" he pressed, "not even if you were my girlfriend?"
"When was the last time you had a girlfriend?" you scoffed.
"I don't know..." Cappy said, "when was the last time you had a boyfriend?"
"About a year ago" you said, "he... it was long distance and just didn't work out. He said I didn't make enough time for him... that I wasn't a good girlfriend."
"Hmmm" Steve's tone didn't give much away.
"What?" you chirped, embarrassed at your lack-of-knowing when to stop talking in your sleep induced overshare.
"I think you'd make a good girlfriend" he said it so matter-of-factly that it made your stomach flip.
"How would you even know?" you smiled bashfully, rubbing at your tired eyes with the back of your hand.
"Well, I don't... not for certain at least... but I do know a way to find out" Steve smirked.
"Oh... you're good" you scoffed, "gross... you're too good at that" you cringed, "so that's how you do it?"
"Do what?" Steve asked.
"Get all the ladies?" you said, "you're using your meatball charms on me..."
"What? Meatball charms?" Steve snorted, "no...I'm... we were just talking..."
"So... how many has this worked on?" you smirked, "how many women are you just talking to at a time?" you asked out of curiosity.
"I mean... I don't know... do you want a list?" Steve asked with a nervous exhale.
"Is that how you keep track?" you chirped.
"Geez, bug" Steve snorted, "you really think I'm that bad?"
"What you do is on you... no judgment" you said.
"Bullshit" Steve shot back, "you've been judging me since we first met..."
"I have not" you chirped.
"Who gave me the charming Captain Meatball nickname that I just can't seem to shake?" he smirked.
"I... oh, shit" you laughed, "you're right" you confessed with a heavy exhale, "well... if it makes you feel any better... I know now that there's more to you then just a meatball that sleeps with everyone in sight."
"Thank y..." Steve started.
"A teeny-tiny bit more..." you interrupted him with a giggle.
"Whatever" he laughed, leaning back on his pillow and rolling his eyes playfully.
"I wouldn't normally mind... about who you're sleeping with" you pointed out, "the only reason I care is because..." you paused.
"Because?" you could hear the curiosity in his tone.
"Because... I guess... I kinda like you" you surrendered.
"That wasn't so hard" Steve laughed as you rolled your eyes, "you know I wasn't always like this..." he offered.
"Like what?" you asked.
"I used to be Mr Commitment... I had a girlfriend all freshman year and another one sophomore into the first part of junior year... and then after Frank left the team... I dunno... I just sorta couldn't do it anymore... it was all too much and..."
There was pain in Steve's honesty.
"I'm sorry" you whispered, "it must have been hard to watch your best friend go through that... to lose him on the team."
"Nahh" Steve shrugged, "what he's had to deal with was so much worse... losing his sister, taking on Mary... his family's no help and he's not even sure when he'll finish school..." Steve's voice was strained with emotion and it made your chest tighten.
"I'm sorry, Steve..." you said, "we don't have to..."
"No... I'm glad it came up..." he cleared his throat, "I like talking to you, y/n."
"I like talking to you too, Steve" you smiled.
"Think that's the first time you've used my real name without an ounce of disdain" he smiled into the phone.
"That's not true" you yawned, stretching your arms up over your head with a soft squeak.
"Oh, shit" Steve cursed, "it's real late... I'm sorry!"
"It's OK" you yawned again, "you don't have to go..."
"I'll talk to you soon, ladybug" his laugh was light and warm.
"I'll talk to you soon" you sighed.
"Oh and uh... I tweaked the t-shirt order a little, but I think you'll actually like it..." Steve said.
"Wait?" Your eyes shot open as you bolted up in bed, "Steve what did you..."
"OK, sweet dreams, bug! Byyyeee" he rushed before the line went dead and the call ended.
"Damnit, Crappy!" you cursed, falling back on your pillow with a huff.

"That sounds wonderful, thank you so much, Melissa" you sighed with relief, your cellphone pressed between your ear and shoulder as you scratched another note on your blue post-it pad.
"Please tell Amy I'm so exited for next week and I look forward to seeing both of you then" you smiled, ending the call and placing it on the table next to your laptop.
You started typing into your spreadsheet just as your phone began vibrating with another call.
"Hey" you answered your friend, feeling lighter than you had in weeks.
You had spent the week finalizing the Pucks for Paws photo shoot, talking to Steve's contact for the calendar- it would be cutting it close, but as long as everything went well at the shoot- you'd get them to print just in time. You would be getting an email today with the mock-ups for the adoption drive tshirts and the shirts to be sold at this Friday night's game and once approved, the shirt designs would go to printing by tonight.
Things were going surprisingly smooth, even communicating with a very reluctant Barnesy instead of the team captain wasn't as bad as you'd thought it would be- you weren't talking to Steve after your meeting almost 2 weeks ago.
"Don't hate me... but Bucky's going crazy and he-whom-we-don't-speak-of won't stop badgering Buck..." clover started, sounding nervous on the other end of the phone.
"Why would I hate you?" you laughed, "wait... what did you do?" you asked as she continued rambling.
"Clover?" you called into the phone, shaking your head at her cutesy nickname that had just sort of stuck.
She went silent, anxiously chewing her bottom lip as you waited for the shoe to drop.
"He needed to talk..." she finally continued as you busied yourself, organizing the post-it's by order of importance before you turned the page in your ruined planner and stuck them over the date of the calendar photo shoot.
"Remind me to get a new planner after all of this... this one still smells like frat boy" you sighed- not paying attention to what she just said.
"Yeah... about that..." clover's words were drawn out suspiciously.
"What. The. Hell?" you emphasized every word into your phone just as you looked up, seeing the Captain of the hockey team weaving through tables in the common area near a coffee shop on campus, "I told Barnesy AND you that I didn't want to see him" you hissed at your friend just as Steve came to a stop, standing in front of you.
"Talk to him" clover said as you scowled up at Steve- who actually looked pretty uncomfortable.
"I hate you" you seethed into the phone before ending the call and slamming your phone on the table.
"What do you want... Crappy?" you smirked to yourself, leaning away from your work- and him.
"I..." the new nickname made him faulter before exhaling, "I wanted to... can we talk?"
"Sorry... I've already showered today" you quipped, but when his eyebrow quirked in confusion you rolled your eyes with an exaggerated exhale.
"That's where you hold all your meetings with members of the opposite sex, no?" you words had bite, smirking triumphantly when he hung his head, rubbing at the back of his neck. You'd never seen him so squirmy and for some reason it made you feel better.
"I... bug... we've never talked about this..." he said, toeing at the chair leg in front of him, "I didn't know you cared if I was with other girls..."
"I don't" you scoffed, "not even a little bit" you added, but for his benefit or yours... you honestly weren't sure anymore.
"I like you" he said suddenly, looking up and meeting your gaze with a bashful softness you'd never seen from him before... but you weren't buying it.
"OK" you snorted in a mocking tone, laughing as you started gathering your things, stacking papers and grabbing your pens.
"I do..." he insisted, pulling out the chair in front of him and sitting down across from you, "And it usually never gets this far... ya know... with a girl."
"Yeah?" you narrowed your eyes at him, "you usually just jump in the shower before talking to them? Is a name required or just a cup size?"
"Bug..." Steve exhaled, sprawling over the table with a groan, his forearms resting flat as his open palms pleaded with you.
"Stop calling me that" you hissed, "look... I don't know what you even think this is... so we've talked... we're working on a fundraising project -because I'm a moron and thought it was actually a good idea- but... like... what do you think is happening here? This isn't some stupid meet-cute."
The good mood you were in only moments ago had evaporated.
"You like me..." he smirked for the first time since interrupting your day.
"I do not" you snapped, grabbing your bag from the floor as you shoved your laptop inside.
"I think you do..." he continued, "and I like you..."
"Right..." you glared at him... "and your girlfriend? Does she like me too?"
"Girlfriend?" his brows knit together as he sat up.
"Shower caddy Barbie?" you said, picking up your coffee cup and finishing the last cold sip.
"Her name's Bonnie... I think" Steve stared off trying to recall the woman's name.
"Oh... jesus" you cringed, "you don't even know her name? Did you invite her over? Or did she just show up in your shower?"
"I... they're just kinda... there" he shrugged, cringing slightly as his face flushed pink, "I never really..."
"No" you interrupted, "I don't even want to know" you shock your head, "because I don't care..." you said with emphasis, but this time it definitely sounded like you were trying to convince yourself.
"Bug..." Steve let out a heavy sigh, looking at you apprehensively, "I... I just..."
"What?" you snapped, shoving the last of your things in your bag and zipping up the front pocket. You grabbed your phone and started scrolling through a few new text messages.
"How would a guy even know if you were interested?" he sounded so genuinely curious it made you blink up at him owlishly.
"I... uhhh..." you honestly weren't sure how to answer, "well... if someone did how would they even go about telling you?" you deflected with a scowl.
"What?" he asked, his brows knitting together but his lips twitched into an annoying cute smirk.
You rolled your eyes, blowing out an exhale before continuing.
"I mean... there are so many women around you... in your house... at the games... in your shower. How would one even begin to try? Smoke signals? Carrier pigeon?"
Steve snorted a laugh, shaking his head as he smiled at you. It was a warm affectionate smile that made your tummy flutter.
Damn him!
"I gotta go" you said, pushing the chair away from the table and standing up, "everything's covered for the photoshoot next week... just check with Barnesy. I emailed him the updated itinerary."
"Bug... I mean... y/n..." Steve said, jumping from his chair, the scrapping of the metal on the floor made you grimace.
"I want you to meet someone..." his speech was hurried as he held his hand up, motioning with his fingers for someone across the room to come over.
You turned, seeing a young man- around Steve's age get up from a couch as he pushed a stroller towards you. You blinked back at Steve, confusion written across your face as the man approached your table.
"This is my best friend, Frank" Steve said with a smile, patting the man on the back, "and this..." Steve's voice was so soft, so loving as he reached into the stroller, unclipping the harness and lifting a sweet chubby blonde haired, blue eyed baby up into his arms, "is Mary."
"H-hi... Frank... hi, Mary... " you stuttered, "I'm y/n" still confused as you looked between the two men and back to the cherub in Steve's arms.
"If this is where you're gonna to tell me you have a kid..." you started but Steve's sudden bark of laughter cut you off.
"No... nothing like that..." Steve laughed as Mary took a chubby swipe at his face. When Steve chased her fingers with his mouth she squealed with delight. When she swiped at him again he continued the game before turning to you with the biggest smile.
"Frank was..." Steve paused, looking at Frank and the young man nodded encouragingly, "on the team last year, my Alternate Captain..." Steve continued, "but his sister, Mary's Mom died and his family's... kinda messed up" Steve cringed apologetically at Frank, but Frank just shrugged with a nervous smile.
"So..." Steve continued, but looked from Mary to Frank, uncomfortably.
"I took Mary in" Frank continued for Steve, "tried to do it all for awhile- Steve's helped a ton... babysitting for me... had the team raise money for Mary... but I just couldn't do it all. I quit the team and I'm taking night classes... with Cappy's help" Frank smiled from Steve to you as your eyes welled with tears embarrassingly fast.
"I... god... I'm so sorry, Frank" you sniffed, looking away to wipe a stray tear from your eye.
"Thank you, y/n" Frank smiled, "don't know what I'd do without this guy" he clapped Steve on the back as Steve tentatively met your gaze.
You smiled at him for the first time in weeks. A watery laugh bubbling up your throat when Mary took a clumsy swing with her chubby baby hand as she batted at Steve's face, again. She giggled when Steve pretended to eat her fingers, making silly faces at her.
"Uncle Cappy" Frank smiled, watching his niece squeal with delight in Steve's protective arms.
You all stood there in silence, watching Mary playing with Steve before Frank turned to you with a smile.
"Cap told me about the adoption drive. It sounds great... heard you've been working really hard" he smiled, "can I buy you guys a coffee?" Frank offered.
"Thank you! But I..." you took out your phone, looking at the time as Steve stood there holding Mary and looking hopeful.
"Sure... I guess... I've got some time" you smiled, giving in to the cuteness in front of you, "I'd really appreciate that, Frank."
"Great" Frank said, smiling as he gave Steve a wink that didn't go unnoticed. Frank took your order before walking over to the coffee shop, leaving you alone with Steve and Mary.
"This was cheap" you scowled at him, half-heartedly, taking your seat and putting your bag on the floor, "are Frank and Mary always your wing-men?"
Steve laughed, sitting down with Mary in his lap. He reached into the stroller, grabbing a rattle and handing it to Mary. She shook it furiously before giggling and smiling at you.
"She's beautiful" you said, a sad look in your eyes as you watched her.
"She is" Steve agreed, "and bug... I wanted to tell you, I just..."
"No, please, I get it" you interjected.
"You do?" Steve sounded surprised.
"I get this" you emphasized, "Frank, Mary... like you said, it wasn't your story to tell" you said, motioning to Mary.
"But that doesn't mean I forgive you" you added just as Frank walked over with a coffee caddy, sitting down and handing you your coffee first.
"Not sure I even need forgiving" Steve grunted, taking a sip of his coffee.
Frank snorted giving Steve a side eye and Steve cocked his eye brow at his best friend.
"If you're involved... you need forgiving" Frank said.
"Baaaaa" Mary vocalized, innocently swatting at Steve's chest.
"See... Frank and Mary agree" you smirked before taking a sip of your drink.
"Fine..." Steve sighed dramatically, "say I do need forgiving" his expression fell serious, "where do I begin?"
"I'm not going to tell you how to apologize" you snorted as Frank just groaned, shaking his head with an eye roll.
"What?" Steve threw a hand in the air, "I've never done this before..."
"You've never apologized before?" your brows furrowed in disbelief.
"He's never cared enough for the apology to matter... they've always been half-assed" Frank said, smirking at you and you felt your stomach somersault.
"Not true" Steve scoffed, making a face at Frank.
"He likes you" Frank continued, "like won't shut up about you, likes you."
"Frank" Steve grunted through his teeth.
"Like hasn't brought a girl home since he saw you last... likes you" Frank offered as Steve let out an audible groan.
"I think you could be the one, y/n..." Frank continued as Steve groaned even louder, cursing at Frank and you laughed at their exchange.
"I'm holding your niece" Steve reminded him.
"And you'd murder anyone that hurt her" Frank smiled, scooping up Mary and putting her back in her stroller.
Steve looked at you, rubbing his hands over his thighs, a prickly silence hanging between you two before you took pity on him.
"You can start by finalizing the t-shirts that will be sold at the hockey game" you said, "the guy said he was going to email me, but I just got a text that he wants me to come to the shop across town to finalize them there in person... and I just have too much to do..."
"Sure, of course" Steve smiled, looking relieved at the subject change, "I can go right now" he said eagerly standing up.
"It was nice meeting you, y/n" Frank said, offering you his hand as you stood up, slinging your bag over your shoulder.
"It was nice meeting you too" you shook his hand before ducking down by the stroller, "bye, Mary!"
"Blaaaah Blaaaah" Mary spit raspberries as she gurgled happily at you.
"See you Wednesday?" Frank confirmed with Steve as they leaned in giving a side bro-hug.
"Yup, I'll be there at 6:30" Steve confirmed, "thanks for this, man" his voice was low and you cleared your throat, looking away to give them some privacy.
"Great" Frank said turning back to you, "hope to see you again soon, y/n" he smiled as Steve gave Mary a kiss on her cheek.
You waved to Mary before leaving with Steve in the opposite direction.
As you walked towards the exit Steve offered to take your empty cup to the trash before leaving the building.
"Thank you" you said, trying to figure out a goodbye they wasn't too awkward.
"I'm sorry I ambushed you" Steve sounded sincere.
"That's OK" your smile was warm, "I'm glad I met Mary... and Frank... it explains a lot."
"I'm sorry about Bonnie" Steve continued, words spilling out as if they were burning a hole in his chest, "she means nothing to me... if I'd had known there was even a shot with you... I'd... I mean..." he stalled, doubting himself, "I... I really like you... y/n."
"Ugh....Ew!" you harrumphed, pushing through the heavy entrance door to outside as Steve stood there for a moment before rushing to follow you out.
"What?" he asked, catching up to you and taking your hand in his to stop you, "hey... y/n... what is it?"
"Stop calling me y/n" you groaned, not even believing what you were about to admit.
"What?" Steve looked utterly confused, "but I thought..."
"It sounds too weird now" you rolled your eyes, uncomfortable with your own vulnerability, "I think... ugh..." you huffed.
"You want me to call you bug?" Steve looked a little surprised, smiling from ear-to-ear.
Your tongue tutted, letting out an annoyed exhale as you grumbled curses to yourself.
"Yes" you felt your stomach swoop as your face flushed with heat.
"Great!" Steve said, dropping your hand and shrugging his backpack off his shoulder before he unzipped it, pulling out a brown paper bag, "this is for you."
You took the bag, awkwardly holding it in your hands and mumbled an "oh, thanks", shifting uncomfortably where you stood.
"Open it" he laughed, smiling at you as he helped you pull the bag away from the gift.
"It's a planner" his voice was warm, too excited to wait for you to examine it.
"Thank you" you smiled, turning it over and flipping the cover open in your hands. It wasn't exactly the type of planner you'd have picked- the cover had lady bugs arranged in the shape of a heart sitting on a bright green leaf.
"This is... really nice of you" you smiled, reaching up to pull him into a stiff hug, "thank you" you whispered as he ran his large hand up and down the middle of your back, humming in appreciation.
You pulled away after several seconds and couldn't help laughing when Steve was smiling like an idiot down at you.
"OK... Crappy" your nerves broke the silence, "don't forget the t-shirts" you said turning to leave for your next class.
"Hey, bug... this mean you forgive me?" he asked, his million dollar smile flashing at you.
"Nope" you shook your head, biting back a smile.
"Fine" he huffed, playfully, "but you like me... at least a little?" he asked, "come on... I let you meet Mary! Nobody meets Mary..."
"Hey" you scolded, "don't use Mary... that's not fair!"
"Well?..." he waited, smiling as you rolled your eyes.
"You're not forgiven" you lip curled at the corner, deviously, "buuuuuut... I don't hate you" you sighed.
"Yaaaaassss" Steve whooped, pumping his fists in the air, causing a few students around him to startle and look his way.
He shot you a wink before he turned, hurrying away before you could change your mind, "I won't forget the shirts! See ya, ladybug!"

The blonde hockey captain breezed right by you -without so much as a word- you were leaving the building of your last class as he was heading in.
"Cappy?" you blinked up at him, confused by the absence of his usual muchisimo.
"Oh, h-hey... bug" he paused reluctantly, he looked anxious. He never looked anxious.
"You OK, Cap?" you asked, brow raised as you eyed him up.
"Yeah... I'm good... just heading to class..." he shifted, uncomfortably, looking back at the building.
"Ooooook..." you narrowed your eyes at him, suspiciously, "don't let me keep you then..."
"Great" Steve said - a little too quickly- turning on his heels, shifting his backpack to his front and walking away.
"Oh, hey...Cap?" you called, remembering something pressing.
"Yeah?" he asked, turning back as you crossed the sidewalk towards him- he shifted his bag out of sight again.
"You remember we're meeting this afternoon at The Barn to go over the layouts and what you guys are wearing for the photo shoot... right?"
"Yup... got it..." his response rushed, shrugging his bag gently when you swear you heard a yip.
"Are you sure you're OK, cap?" you asked again, blinking up at him as he reached around, cradling his backpack in his arm- the bag hanging off of his other shoulder- just out of sight.
"Yeah... all good" he promised, with a forced smile.
"Look... if this is about asking me on a date the other night..." you started, "we don't have to if you're not interested anymore..."
Your stomach sank at the thought of not getting that date with the captain.
What was happening to you? You actually wanted a date with Captain Meatball? 😳
"No!" Steve chirped, "no... I very much still wanna go on our date... I've just been busy with hockey... and you've been busy with Pucks for Paws..."
"OK" you weren't convinced. Steve shifted again when his backpack started to wiggle and then bark.
"Steve?" you asked, frowning as his bag barked again, "why is your bag barking?"
Steve blew out an exhale, knowing he'd been caught. He shrugged the backpack off his shoulder and moved to cradle it in both hands.
"Rufus?" you sounded completely shocked when you saw the tiny puppy poking out of Steve's backpack.
"The guys and I... uh... we've been going by the shelter in the mornings to run with the dogs..." he started.
"Really?" you swooned, "the entire team is running with the shelter dogs?"
"Well... yeah... Mike (the director of the shelter) said they don't have enough volunteers to take the dogs out..." Steve said, "they need exercise too..."
When Rufus barked again you reached up, taking the puppy out of Steve's bag.
"Hi, Rufus!" you cooed, hugging the little fur ball to your chest. Rufus continued wiggling, his tail going wild with excitement.
"So... why is Rufus in your bag?" you laughed when the puppy began enthusiastically licking at your face.
"Well... I picked him up for our morning run... forgetting that my first class had to start earlier today... the professor had some kind of conflict, or something... and I didn't have time to bring Rufus back to the shelter..." Steve scratched at the little puppy's ears, inadvertently brushing his hand over yours- causing your belly to somersault.
"And you thought Rufus was going to stay quiet in your backpack?" you teased.
"I was gonna zip him into my hoodie when I got to class..." Steve's laugh was warm.
It wasn't until then that you realized the hockey-god appeared to be bare chested under his zip up. Your eyes trailing to the dusting of wirey dark chest hair peeking out.
Oooh 🫠
"Why didn't you tell me the team was doing this?" you asked, pulling your gaze from the adorable puppy his chest hair and smiling bashfully up at the meatball.
"I dunno..." he shrugged, looking a little shy himself- your pretty smile making his own belly do a few flips.
"Well... I think it's really sweet..." you looked down at Rufus again, "thank you... I bet the dogs just love it..."
"Most of 'em do..." he nodded, "I think old man Dodger isn't enjoying it as much..."
"No... I'm sure Dodger loves it" you laughed, affectionately, "he's just been slower to move around after his hip surgery... but he probably needs the morning walks the most..."
Cappy agreed, pulling his phone from his pocket and looking at the time.
"Shoot... I gotta run..." he scooped Rufus out of your arms as you faux pouted, "I'm sorry, bug..."
"Wait..." you chirped, already missing the warmth of the puppy, "I'm not busy right now... I can take Rufus and we'll meet up with you after your class?"
"Yeah?" Steve smiled, "you sure? I know how busy you are with everything..."
"Yeah, I'm sure" you smiled when he handed you back the puppy, grabbing Rufus' leash and doggie bags from his backpack.
"Maybe we can go get Dodger and take them both for a walk when you're done with class?" you asked.
"Yeah! that sounds great... it's a date" Cappy smiled, enthusiastically.
"A date" you nodded, feeling your chest bloom and then tighten when Steve ducked, kissing Rufus on his furry little head. The captain's lips were so closed to yours, sending a shiver up your spine when he whispered...
"See you soon, ladybug..."
Sigh... I'm swooning over Captain Meatball... how about you? 🥺

"Goddamnit, Steven Grant!" you cried when he rolled all of his weight on your inner thigh -it hurt like a son-of-a-gun- but you weren't giving up just yet. You refused. Not when you were this close, "just try it on, you..." you growled out in frustration, "butt-faced, weasel!"
"Butt-faced, weasel?" that had him stilling, snorting his amusement, his muscles letting go of their tension for only a second- but it was only that second you needed to slide the strap up the rest of the way to just over his shoulder.
"I'm not doing it" he roared, pushing up from where you were both lying on the floor. Your thighs still wrapped around his narrow waist, "ugh... can you stop humping my back?"
"Ew! You're fucking gross!" you nearly gagged, unwrapping your legs and giving him a hard shove, "I'm not humping your back, asshat!"
"Are too" Steve growled, shoving your leg while he continued to grumble.
"You're just mad that I managed to get it on you..." you snorted with smug laughter.
"I let you get it on me..." he huffed, refusing to admit defeat.
"Sure you did..." you continued laughing, "that's why you're sweating so much... because you let..." but your words ended on a wheeze when he lunged at you.
In the chaos, you just managed to tuck your legs and turn, trying to roll out from under him as you shrieked.
Cappy had both your arms at the crook in your elbows, pulling them painfully behind your back before you manage to squirm and elbow him in the gut. He ooofed, grip going slack on your arm long enough for you to twist and shove your palm up under his chin, pushing the meatball as hard as you could away from you.
"Well this looks like it's going well..." Bug's voice made the captain freeze. She smirked down at you and Steve where you were wrestling on the living room floor of The Barn. Bug's presence providing enough of a distraction for you to sit up, grab the Go-Pro and clip it into the harness. The freshly wrangled on harness fit nicely on his muscular back- the Go-Pro sitting snuggly between his shoulder blades.
"Suck it!" you cheered, triumphantly- grunting when Steve shoved you away from him.
"Get off" he snarled under his breath, making Bug laugh.
"I'm not wearing this..." Steve grumbled, but his argument had lost its bite as he moved to stand.
"Come on! It's for Yenzy's little old Grandma... so she can watch her grandson play during family night..." you frowned at him, brushing your pants off before extending your hand to him for a help up, "just do it, Cap... you owe me..."
"Fuck off..." he swatted your hand away, "I don't owe you... and no way in Hell am I wearing this... it looks fucking stupid..." he scowled, reaching to his shoulder to remove the strap just as Bug took a step towards him, closing the space between them.
"You do owe me... and I won fair and square... you're just..." but your words died off when Bug gave you a look- she had this.
Bug reached up, gripping the strap on Steve's shoulder in her hand before giving it one good tug. Steve's breath caught in his throat as his eyes went wide, blinking down at her in shock.
"Hmmm...." Bug hummed, smiling coyly up at him, "too bad you won't wear this... I kinda like it..."
"Maybe we could get Storm to wear it?" you goaded as you pushed to a stand and played along.
"Oh, yeah... Storm..." Bug smirked- shooting you a wink.
"No... uh... um, it's fine..." Cappy, looked between you two before settling his gaze back on Bug, "I'll wear it..." he assured.
Cappy just blinked down at her, brain short circuiting when her other hand slowly ran up his chest, (oh, she was good 😏) her fingers curling around the other strap and tugging him to her playfully.
"Good..." she captured her bottom lip between her teeth for a moment before continuing, "cause everyone knows safety first..."
Cappy's browed just furrowed as he looked down at her, confused.
"You know... handles..." Bug smirked, but the captain still looked throughly lost, "you're really gonna make me say it?" her smirk grew with a head tilt, "where's that meatball charm... Cap?"
But she continued over Steve's grunt of a protest.
"Handles... for riding?" She tugged on his shoulder harness for good measure before dropping her hands to smooth down his chest.
Bug couldn't help laughing when Cappy made a wheezing sound like the air had been knocked from his lungs, speechless as he just watched you two giggling together -arms linked- leaving him in the living room all ~strapped up~ and bothered.

And here is part 2 of my drawings for the Adoption Drive for @drabblewithfrannybarnes amazing Lucky Charms au! 💚
I'm so so damn proud of how this turned out! Can you tell what the design of the shirt is referencing? I had so much fun coming up with a layout and design. Drawing animals was also surprisingly fun and relaxing 😂
Also, isn't Mary's body the stinking cutest thing ever? I already swooned when I read it in Carly's fantastic writing. I couldn't not draw it too. Just the image of little cherub Mary wearing this and Cappy holding her proudly in his arms. (If he wouldn't be such a doofus he, Mary, and Bug could match too xD)
(I still do have one more to post. A little surprise 😊)
