January 2nd, 2021

a journal entry -- 

Today is my last day as a 20 year old. It’s 10:18PM and I’m counting down. When you’re young, you anticipate certain ages. 

Oh I can’t wait to be 18.

Oh I can’t wait to be 18.

Oh, I cannot wait to turn 21.

And now it’s here, the age milestone. Yet, it feels scary. More importantly, I feel quite emotional.

For the longest time, I wanted to die. I knew exactly how I’d kill myself and who I would write my goodbye letters to. And you know what hurts the most? I wrote them--too many to count. 

There’s nothing I want more than to give that girl a hug. I want to comfort her--let her cry into my shoulders. I desperately want to tell her that I understand. I want to assure her that I hear her silence. I also want to tell her about all she’s accomplished. 

I’d talk about how at 18 years old, she saved up all her money and traveled to Spain to walk the last 128km of the Camino. And when she reached Santiago de Compostela, she cried.

“Whenever you say you want to do something, you do it.” I’d say to her, “and I think that’s admirable.”

Young girl, you are always afraid of never amounting to anything or accomplishing all your goals; but give yourself some god damn deserved credit--you’ve done so much for a soon-to-be twenty-something. You got plans, baby, and you always execute them. 

20 was an age of growth. 20 was new experiences. 

21 is finally acting like that bitch, because you are that bitch.
