the young boy was terrified it's his first day at sea after a landlocked life

the swaying makes him nauseous the salty breeze makes him sick he can barely stay upright

he felt the homesickness consume him he wanted to go home back to solid ground

the waves are high strong winds arise clouds are rolling in

at night in bed he prays for his mother he begs for his father

the storm hit, hard and fast lightning flashes overhead

he is terrified as the sailors run to their stations

he is terrified as the sailors try to stay upright

he is terrified when the captain grabs him

he is terrified when he was told to secure their lifelines

he is terrified when he runs across the dangerously tilting ship

he is terrified as the first man goes overboard

he is terrified as a gigantic wave hits the ship

he is terrified as he is swept off-board

The seas where rough, lightning flashes, thunder booms ahead. Colossal waves rising, with only the ship to fight. An endless battle, an enemy they can't kill.

a wizened old man, steps to the hull, hands raised to heaven, chanting softly, volume rising, chanting, shouting.

The wind picks up attacking the sails. throwing sailors from their posts "What is he doing," the captain shouts. The winds howl, rain pouring, thunder booming louder, lightning strikes the mast.

then the clouds recede, the rain stops, the wind dies to a faint breeze, the waves settle and the old man smiles. he turns to the captain, smiles his toothless smile, and walks away.

Laughing eyes meet

From across the room

Smirks exchanged

Sharing a thousand words

Without making a sound

The classroom is quiet

McGonagall' teaching

The only noise

But those grey eyes say so much

And the scarred boy understand it all

He'd spent years learning

Every twitch

Every look

Every smile

Of the dark haired boy

He knows every line of his face

Every sound that he makes

So he smiles and nods

Agreement made

And if they're late to their next class

Well its not their fault the stairs changed

The siren

The mist is rolling in

Obscuring their view

The lone ship lost

In the foggy waters

Unease rises

Amongst the sailers

As they try to navigate

Through the fog

A single cabin boy

Stops in his tracks

Frozen as if entranced

A beautiful voice

Singing in his ears

He drops his mop

Runs to find

The singing voice

Out at sea

As he runs

He's grabbed by his scruff

By his fearsome captain

Held in place

The captain glares

At the ocean

"sirens," his voice echoes

He pulls the boy form the edge

Then ties him to the mast

When the fog recedes

The boy was dead

Bleeding out his ears

Slowly i walk down the hall

Trying my best to be quiet

I peek around the corners

To see what lies ahead

But all i see is even more darkness

So i take a breath

Jolly Rodger

The large ship lazily glides through the calm seas gently swaying from side to side. The golden sunlight beating down on the busy sailors going about their day carrying barrels, manning the sails one young man was lazily scrubbing the deck. A finely dressed bard lounging on a crate gently strumming a lute, his melodious voice drifting through the air. A young boy asleep atop the Crowsnest a child's book abandoned next to him, a stray scrap of paper, gently flapping in the wind, where he had copied the words. the first mate, a tall, imposing woman, was standing by the mast, barking orders, glaring at the slacking cabin boy. The captain was behind the helm, strong and young with a plump feather atop his hat. he smiled down at his crew hoping beyond hope, the other shoe won't drop

Back home

The house is big

Bigger than i remember

My room is empty

Lost the personal touch

That made it mine

Gone is the posters

Gone is the books

Gone is everything

That made it mine

The room is to big

To empty

A glorified guestroom

At best

And I'm left wallowing

In the space

Trying to find

What use to be mine
