Captain's announcement:

Sam, who is not on tumblr, has volunteered to be our medic.

She has also volunteered to do occasional cooking for the sake of pleasure and novelty.

She has also asked several questions about the extent to which I insist I encourage all levels of innovation and experimentation on board, chatted about the future-historical implications of fleet-wide vaccinations and survival of naturally-occurring intestinal bacteria, and was very eager to prepare fresh salads for all on board.

She is in fact equipped to handle food poisoning in sick bay.  This was also discussed.

So the moral of the story is, be aware of potential hazards when eating fresh food and, if you do in fact partake of and enjoy said fresh food, know that you are contributing to science.  This has been a ship-wide announcement and any consumption of fresh food is considered implicit agreement with said announcement as understanding of potential risks and participation in experimentation for the purpose of I'm not actually sure what but I'm sure it's fairly important and will lead to some great advancements in the sciences. 

This will be posted additionally and permanently in the canteen.

Crew Profile: Captain Jone Ekoh

Frequently shifts appearances because it's the future and who says that technology can't exist, mostly gender-oriented but sometimes otherwise.

Originally sciences division.

Somehow ended up shunted from a planned course to ships counselor to a leadership position.

Still tinkers in part to relieve own stress and likes to set lots of policies and programs to ensure the mental health of the crew, though they're usually based more in science than in -- well, there was the one time they set out coloring books but they swear there's research to back that up as a stress-relieving activity, they don't care WHO says otherwise.  RESEARCH.

Possibly part betazoid.

Always looks a little like they're rushing somewhere even when there's nowhere to rush to.

No seriously, who thought giving this person control of the ship was a good idea, I mean they do a good enough job (they hope maybe oh god maybe not) and they're great in moments of crisis but privately they're pretty sure they always look like they're staring down a warship.

At least, that's their perception.  That might not be what they actually look like.  But they can imagine that in their own head.  Pretty much perpetually.

Likes to avoid conflict if it can be helped but if it can't and diplomacy fails then so help you they will absolutely flatten you if absolutely necessary.

Best described as: a grown-up's version of a kindergarten teacher, complete with perpetually strained-and-or-tired smile, overt enthusiasm, and the scariest teacher-captain's voice if you actually manage to cross the line there.
