Congrats on 118 followers! May I request a Nanteo ficlet of them seeing Captain Meow for the first time and deciding to adopt her?

Shortly after their third anniversary they bought a house together. It isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination. It's an older home, and it hasn't been maintained the best. And there were definitely some questionable renovations done previously, but they are two smart, capable, handy people who know a bunch of other smart capable, handy people. And for everything they can't or shouldn't do, they know Judd and Judd knows all the right people to call.

They wound up living in their apartment another six months after signing their mortgage while all the important renovations were done. But finally, finally, they could move into their house. Their forever home.

Its bigger than they need right now wiyh it's three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms, but it's perfect and gives them space to grow. It's full of charecter and color just like them. They fill their home with art from local artists and lots of plants. Mateo even starts an herb garden in a window box in their kitchen. Its perfect and comfortable and lived in, but most importantly it's filled with love.

But it's missing something important. They aren't ready for kids yet, they are a few years off from that yet. Nancybwants to be a little further in her career and Mateo wants to make sure his citizenship is finalized. But still, they are ready to add another member to their family.

There is a brief conversation about adopting a dog when they see an event hosted by one of Austin's animal shelter. It's a nice thought, but they have long shifts and often work the same shift. All those long hours alone at home wouldn't be fair to a dog.

Nancy spends a lot of time researching different pets that are more independent and low maintenance. Mateo had suggested a Macaw, he'd actually really liked Ginsburg. Nancy had initially been on board until she asked Tk about it. Her best friend had shrugged.

"I loved Ginsburg. He was a great pet, but he was simaltaniously obnoxiously over protective and a massive snitch. He was also super petty. Also they can outlive humans, so be prepared to write it into your wills." So Nancy had vetoed macaw.

Nancy had been the one to suggest a chinchilla. Mateo vetoed those. Nancy gets Mateo's hang upstairs, they might be incredibly soft and cute, but they are still a rodent and Mateo has a very firm belief that rodents are not pets.

They never intended to get a cat, not with how allergic to them Mateo is. They had actually gone to the shelter to drop off a stray cat who had decided the 126 was the perfect place to have her kittens.

But then the sweetest Russian Blue had wound herself around Nancy's ankles, and head butted Mateo's shin, purring loudly.

"Huh?" The volunteer helping them the 126's mama cat and kittens said. "Smokey doesn't normally do that. She's been here almost a year. She notoriously hates people." Nancy had automatically been smitten picking up Smokey. Her and Mateo haven't wordless conversation.

"We can't ignore a sign from the cat distribution system, right?" Nancybasked nervously as Smokey affectionately butted her head up against the bottom of Nancy's jaw.

"And allergy shots are covered by our insurance." Mateo replied.

An hour later Nancy and Mateo were driving home with their new family member, renamed Captain Meow. Two first responders couldn't have a cat named Smokey, that would be absolutely ridiculous.
