Her mother died when she was young and the man she assumed to be her father followed soon after. After their deaths, she was reunited with her real father, a pirate captain of a ship called the Jewel of The Sea. He taught her to be a pirate, how to play it smart, how to captain, swordfight, and shoot a gun. He taught her everything she knows about everything, he was also the one to teach her to read and write. Later, she even started to write poems and songs in her free time but she never got around to showing them to anyone (even as a ghost). She never killed unless she had to, but she did often win in sword fights and it wasn't long before she was a master of both swords, guns and daggers. When her father passed away, she was about sixteen and a new Captain took over. He allowed Sally to stay on the ship, but she didn’t like him at all, especially when he changed the name of the ship to The Black Jewel. He was a very ruthless, bloody man who only showed a bit too much of a sweet spot for her (having affection toward her that she never returned). She stayed on the ship only because she had no where else to go and being a pirate was all she knew. It wasn't long before she had enough of the new Captain. They had rummaged and destroyed cities, killed innocent people (including kids) and stole from the poor. At nineteen, she fought for the place of Captain and to everyone's surprise, she won. She offered the previous Captain a place among the crew, but he spat at her and insulted her, which led her to tossing him overboard as he had spoiled his last chance. She fixed the ship up and changed the name back to the Jewel of The Sea. She fought for her place as Captain constantly and eventually, the crew gave up trying to fight for the position and were silently thankful that she was as good as a Captain as her father (much better than the previous man). She changed the rules of the ship- no killing innocents, no thieving from the poor, and only take what's necessary if they steal from a town (of course they did steal a lot of treasures that weren't guarded and they stole from the rich often). Anyone who was found guilty of breaking the rules was thrown overboard or killed on sight. She turned the crew into better people. Their positions as pirates were now because they fought ships that were carrying slaves and would free the slaves. One slave she freed was a man named Tobias, who offered his services to her which she accepted. Tobias became her loyal second and command. She taught him how to read and write. He taught her his skills as a medicine man and she had their ship doctor teach him more. Together, they continued to free slaves, stole from the rich, traveled the seas… Until they got caught because a crew member had sold her out to become the new captain. She was able to set the whole ship ablaze before the authorities took her as the ship sank to the sea floor. They were hung for their crimes (both at the age of twenty-five), but she swore that people were not cargo and she would continue to help in her death. Practically true to her word, both her and Tobias became ghosts in the Ghost Zone with the Jewel of the Sea as their ghostly ship. She changed the name to the Bloody Jewel in honor of all the blood of the slaves she couldn’t save. For a while, the two of them haunted the seas and searched for treasure until their crew expanded.
