So uh. I LOVE Rex. And I can never find more than a few fics for him on tumblr that aren't smut. So uh. Here's Rex x Jedi! Reader (though the jedi bit can be ignored if you want.) Merry Christmas!
_____________________________________________
He can't stop looking at you. It's growing later and later, and later, and the clock in the room is ticking dangerously closer to the time where you'll both have to slip out of each other's arms and back into duty.
You've been careful, both of you, well aware of the rules and regulations that would have him decommissioned, and you punished if this ever got out. You only ever book rooms in seedy hotels in lower coruscant, under fake names. You confine yourselves to longing looks and brushes against each other on the ship, terrified that someone might find you out- Fives and Echo give him enough grief about his crush on the gorgeous jedi.
Which brings him back to the present. It's a little silly to have a crush on someone who you're already with, but Rex has never been casual about you. And he can't stop looking at you. You're stunning. Asleep bare in his arms, hair spanning across the pillow. It's such a change from the loose, practical clothes and simple braid or bun your hair is usually in, and he can't look away. It softens you, makes you look younger. Happier. Starlight dances across the features he loves so dearly now. Love. Love. Love. It's a funny word. One Rex never thought would apply to him. He's a clone. He was born to die for a cause he was told was the only life he'd have. Then he met you. Some of his brothers found girlfriends, partners, boyfriends, whatever they'd like to call them. But when Rex met you he understood why people use the word 'Lover.' He loves you. It sounds simple, but what he means is that he'd do anything in the world if it made you smile. It's as though he's spent half his life with half his heart missing, and now that you're here, it's full. It's so, so full. He won't admit it, but he's dreamed of a future with you. A small farm, somewhere far away from where the war was. A cottage. A ring on your finger. Children that look like the two of you.
They're foolish dreams, he knows. But as he looks at you, he dreams anyways. You stir, sighing softly, realizing he's still awake. Your eyes open and meet his, soft, loving, trusting.
"Are you alright?" You ask softly.
Unable to find the words to say how much you looking at him means, he just nods.
You tilt your head, bird like in the motion. "What are you thinking about?"
His answer comes honestly. "You."
You huff out a small laugh, but press a sleepy kiss to his chest. "Softie. I love you."
He smiles at that, and tugs you closer, further into his arms. "I love you too." He murmurs, starting to drift off to sleep.
In five hours, the two of you will have to go back to being Captain and General. A subordinate and his commanding officer. But here, in the privacy of this little room, with only the stars watching, you're simply lovers.
How about being Rex's barrack bunny. Not realising that he's basically staked claim on you. But that's ok, he takes all your attention and time that it's pretty hard to even think about anyone else.
happy may the 4th! send me star wars requests/headcanons and we'll have a party <3
this post is 18+, minors dni.
Rex wishes that being captain of the 501st meant that he got his own room in their Coruscant barracks. Instead, he gets his own set of bunks, which proves absolutely useless when he wants the second person in his own bed, and not the one above him. The metal bedframe is also incredibly sparse, and does nothing to cover the expanse of your nude body, writhing and sweat-beaded on his mattress.
Rex grunts against the column of your neck, warm and littered with hickies of his own design, "Leg up, mesh'la."
Your thigh trembles as you lift it into his waiting palm, and he hikes it over his hip to drive his cock into your cunt at an even sharper angle. It elicits a cry from your throat, still raw from where you'd kneeled on the concrete and sucked Rex dry, and he mashes a hand over your mouth to silence you.
"Easy. Night shift is sleepin'." He grunts.
"Not anymore." A gruff but familiar voice drawls from a set of bunk beds a few meters to the left, "After this round, can we have a couple turns, Captain?"
"Ne'johaa, Fives," Rex snarls, shifting to cover your bare skin with his broad chest, "Don't listen to them, cyar'ika. Nobody but me gets to put their hands on you."
Rex is a soldier of the Republic. A clone. And it is not worth daydreaming about what it would be like to have a family. But he does just that, not knowing that there is someone out in the galaxy waiting for him.

“I saw you eyeing that woman at Seventy Nines.”
Rex glances up from his datapad and flushes, rubbing the back of his neck. Fives grins down at Rex, arms crossed over his chest, one hip slightly popped.
“It was nothing,” mutters Rex, stepping around Fives’ comment.
The corner of Fives’ mouth quirks as he tries to hide a knowing smile. “Nothing? You were practically drooling,” laughs Fives, gently tossing his helmet on the bunk next to Rex’s. “Why didn’t you approach her?”
Rex blinks, confused. “Why would I?”
Fives shakes his head. “She was staring at you too, Captain. We all saw it.”
Rex looks back at the datapad, wanting to be done with this conversation. “And if I talked to her, what then?”
Fives shrugs. “You talk to a beautiful woman. Flirt a bit.” Fives leans in and Rex glances up from the datapad. “Slip into a dark corner for some—”
“That’s enough, Fives,” interjects Rex, his stomach twisting with understanding.
Fives pats Rex’s shoulder and then plops down next to Rex in the bunk. “This war is going to end. What do you plan to do after its over?”
What is he going to do? Rex hasn’t even thought about it. Hasn’t given the idea any life. Rex is a soldier of the Republic. Duty comes first. It always does. Thinking about the future when that future is entirely uncertain will only create heartache in the end.
“Haven’t thought about it,” answers Rex truthfully. Maybe Fives will drop this, and Rex can return to reading the latest war reports.
“Why not?” asks Fives, clearly not interested in moving on.
Rex’s grip on the sides of the datapad tightens.
Why not? Because fantasizing about the future in any capacity leaves Rex vulnerable and open to the realities of his situation. His family are his fellow clones. They are his brothers. All the family he needs is right here. Why would he ever need to consider anything beyond what is already in front of him?
“I don’t see the point,” answers Rex. “We don’t know when this war will end.” He pauses. “And some days we aren’t sure if we’ll even see tomorrow.”
Fives snorts. “That’s the whole reason why you should.”
“Fives—”
“We’re alive, Rex. We are people and we feel. We may serve the Republic, but we deserve to dream like the citizens we protect.” Fives reaches for his helmet and holds it reverently in his lap, the front side facing him. “In peacetime, we deserve a bit of happiness.”
Rex is silent a moment before he speaks. “Are you not happy now, Fives?”
Fives glances up and grins. “I’m happy, Rex. But happiness during peacetime is…different. I want to know what that looks like for us. Dreaming about it isn’t wrong.”
Rex didn’t say that it was wrong, but he’s not going to point that out to Fives.
Fives taps the edge of the helmet against his knee, sighing as he stands. “I’ll leave you to your boring war reports, Rex.” At the door, Fives turns, and grins mischievously. “Next time, if she’s there, you’re talking to her.”
The door to the room whooshes open, and Fives disappears into the hall. When it shuts, Rex is left in the lingering silence, the only sound that of the air filtration system. It hums softly, a dull buzz in the background.
Whenever his mind drifts toward the future—which is almost never—Rex rarely allows himself to linger. Maybe it’s because of his position, and that there are thousands counting on him to lead them. So many of his brothers look to him for guidance, even ones from other sections of GAR. He and Cody are always discussing strategies and offering advice.
Rex tries to live in the moment, to focus on what matters right now. But what Fives said is sinking in, lurking at the back of his mind, and drawing his attention away from the datapad in his hands.
This room is a small barracks area, one for captains and other ranked members of the Clone Army can go to rest. No one else is in here. It’s just him. They’re stationed on Coruscant, waiting to depart for a months long campaign. Rex and the rest of the 501st have some time to relax before returning to the battlefield.
Yes, they did go to 79’s last night. Yes, Rex may have had one too many strong drinks. And yes, Rex couldn’t stop staring at the woman giving him flirtatious glances all night.
Rex might be a clone but he’s still a man.
Locking the datapad, Rex sighs heavily, placing it on the edge of the bed. Tiredness sits in his bones, and Rex gives in to the exhaustion, bringing his legs onto the bunk and laying on his back. He stares at the bunk above him, at the smooth, plain metal, and tries his best to forget everything.
Tries is the key word.
Rex does try, but he cannot stop thinking about Fives and what he said.
He slips unexpectedly, falling into that space, considering the future.
The woman Rex pictures in his mind is faceless. He does not consider her features, or what her hair might be like. He does not consider whether this fictional woman is human or Twi’lek or any other species. Instead, Rex contemplates what he needs in someone else. Would she be soft and kind, someone to smooth out his sharp edges, to help him forget the realities of war, and linger in a calmness that soothes his soul? Or is she sharp witted, adventurous, willing to explore the galaxy and isn’t afraid of danger?
Or is she something else entirely?
Rex floats in the possibilities, of what this woman might be like and what she’d mean to him. Would General Skywalker want to meet her? Would he approve? Is it even allowed to him after the war ends? Will the clones have the right to enjoy the things the citizens of the Republic do?
These questions form in his head quickly but evaporate just as fast. Rex imagines warm arms around him, of knowing that there is always someone waiting for him, to share in all his failures and successes. It is a wonderful sensation, a calming sense of peace that ushers into his head and curls itself around him to take hold.
The physical isn’t entirely important to Rex, but he considers it anyway. He conjures up multiple images, giving the faceless woman hair then lekku then hair again, even picturing the woman he couldn’t stop glancing at while at 79’s. These thoughts bring the woman in his head to life a bit more, as if he’s stoking a fire, protecting the flame from extinguishing.
With his eyes closed, Rex imagines soft hands holding his, moving to his wrists and arms to eventually cradle his cheek. Rex sighs audibly, pretending that there is someone next to him in this bed, curled up against his side with their head on his chest.
But when he reaches across his chest to seek this someone out, his fingers only find empty air.
Rex’s eyelids slowly open, and a heaviness fills his chest. This is why Rex does not entertain thoughts of the future. This is why he lives in the present moment and focuses on the immediate needs of his soldiers and the Republic.
It’s self-indulgent. Unnecessary. That is what Rex tells himself as he turns on his side and tries to find some sleepful peace in the dark.
These streets are a maze, and Rex is utterly lost.
His personal communicator is crushed, and there are slavers on his trail. General Skywalker has no idea that Rex is being pursued. He has no idea that Rex took a blaster shot to the leg or that he’s limping along as he attempts to hide from his assailants.
This is supposed to be an undercover job, a way to figure out where an entire village full of Twi’leks were taken to after disappearing. While General Skywalker pretends to be a slaver interested in buying, Rex’s job is to find another way into where the Twi’leks are being held.
The whole thing fell apart. Crashed. Burnt up like an asteroid entering the atmosphere.
Behind him, his pursuers shout, and people scream. They’re closer than before, and Rex needs to find shelter. He needs to throw them off and return to General Skywalker.
He slips in a puddle, nearly stumbling into a pile of trash.
“Kriffing hell,” mutters Rex, staggering, placing one hand against the side of a building to balance himself.
His chest heaves and his leg is screaming, needing to rest.
Their pounding footsteps grow closer, and Rex takes off, dragging his leg along as he turns the corner. It’s shadowy here, and the street is long and narrow. There is nothing for him to hide in or around. The street is lined with residential buildings. There are entry doors and a few windows on the bottom level, but that won’t give him protection.
Desperation sinks in. Rex tries a few of the nearby doors, receiving no response.
There is a shout from the direction of where Rex just came from. “This way!”
Rex growls with frustration. He turns away from the door of one house, only to freeze when he notices the young woman in an open doorway.
“In here. Quickly.”
Rex glances back once and considers the alternative.
Kriff it, he thinks, entering the dimly lit home, the door whooshing shut behind him. Rex’s leg almost gives out beneath him, a sharp pain shooting up his side. He grunts, starts to double over, and his potential savior comes to him, placing their hands upon him gently.
Realizing that there is another person, Rex glances up quickly, the instinct to survive flaring white and hot and bright.
He finds…you.
And it is not what he expects. Because—no. Rex smothers the thought immediately.
There is a shout right outside the door, and you place a firm hand on Rex’s chest, easing him down toward the floor while holding a single finger up for silence. Rex doesn’t say a word, his gaze flicking between you and the door, and back again.
The voices soften, and then Rex doesn’t hear them at all.
When you sigh with relief, Rex relaxes a bit, knowing that he’s been spared some extra time.
But you? You are a mystery to him. Friend? Or foe?
“You’re hurt.” It’s not a question and Rex immediately likes the sound of your voice. “Heard the shouts,” you continue. “Saw you limping.”
Rex swallows. “Why are you helping me?”
Your smile is soft with a hint of mischievousness. “Do you think I like living amongst slavers?”
Rex shrugs. “Wasn’t really on my mind,” he admits.
“That’s fair,” you laugh. “They rarely treat the people who live here much different from the people they sell. I don’t mind disrupting things for them when I can.”
Friend, then.
Rex can work with that.
You glance down at his leg and frown. Your hand hovers just above the spot where the blaster bolt struck his thigh. Rex grimaces as the pain flares anew, like it knows he’s finally safe and demands immediate treatment.
“Can you stand on it?” you ask gently, placing one hand on Rex’s shoulder. Your palm is warm and a flood of comfort bursts inside him like a dam breaking.
What is it about you that’s different? Why does his body respond to you like he’s safe when his brain can’t seem to make the same connection?
Rex knows but stifles the thought again.
“Was running on it,” jokes Rex, trying to make light of that fact that the pain is a throbbing thing that won’t cease.
The smile you give him is so tooth-rottenly sweet that Rex feels heat warming his cheeks.
“Humor. That’s good.” You lean in a bit and Rex is immediately flustered by your closeness. “Means you’ll live.”
You present your hands, palms upward. They look so soft, so inviting, and Rex accepts. You help him to a fully seated position before sliding an arm around his waist to assist him to his feet. Rex drapes an arm over the back of your shoulders as the two of you hobble along.
You lead Rex into a small bedroom. The bed itself is unmade; the sheets tossed around like you’ve slipped out just to come to his rescue. For some reason, Rex pictures this happening, and then quickly dismisses it.
Easing onto the bed is hell, and Rex winces as you help him to his back. Thankfully, Rex isn’t wearing his armor, which will make tending to the wound much easier.
“May I take a look?”
Rex nods and you seat yourself next to him on the edge of the bed. When your hands touch his thigh, a shiver runs through him like an electrical current. You hum softly as you lightly press around the spot of the burn. Rex tries to stay calm, but in this prone position, Rex is only focused on your face.
He learns the line and curves, all your small tells, and the subtle way you tilt your head as you observe him. On Kamino—on any Republic vessel really—most of the medical care is run by droids, Kaminoans, and clones. It is mainly automated. Impersonal.
This isn’t.
You’re so close and delicate, taking so much care with him that Rex is void of words, only wanting you to keep giving him this attention. That memory, the one where he imagined what he wants creeps up unexpectedly, choking him.
Is this the feeling that Fives talked about? Is this the pull, the tug of what it means to try and find happiness outside of just duty to the Republic? Or is Rex only indulging himself while in the hands of a stranger?
“I have some bacta spray and bandages. I’ll be back in a moment.” When you stand, a momentary wave of panic grips Rex out of nowhere, stunning him.
What the kriffing hell is going on with him?
You’re back within a minute, placing the small box next to you as you return to your previous spot on the bed. Rex is instantly calm, relaxing as you consider where you want to begin.
“Could—” you pause. “It would be easier if the pants weren’t in the way. I can cut them or—”
“It’s fine,” replies Rex. “I can…remove them.”
Your eyes widen. “No. I didn’t mean—”
“Oh—”
“But if you want—”
“It’s—”
“I can cut it.”
“Yes,” nods Rex, relieved. “Yes.” Rex could start a fire with how hot his cheeks are.
With delicate fingers, you slowly cut away a perfect rectangle in his pants where the blaster burn is. Placing the cutters aside, you remove the bacta spray from the box.
“It’ll be cold.”
“I know,” answers Rex quickly.
Your eyebrows rise toward your hairline. “Is it normal for you to be hit by blaster fire?”
Kriff me.
“It’s a hazard of the job,” says Rex slowly.
Your lips part like you’re about to say something and then think better of it. “I won’t ask.” Your smile speaks to quiet amusement, and it feels like this one look is only for him. That this is something the two of you are sharing. That no one else is allowed to see inside.
The hiss of the bottle fills the room, and Rex momentarily flinches as the bacta spray hits his burn. Once done, you withdraw a gauze pad. With the other hand, you gently reach for Rex, lifting his own hand.
“Hold this for me,” you murmur, and the sound of your voice is so soft that Rex cannot resist your command.
Rex does as you ask, keeping the gauze pad pressed to the covered blaster burn. You unspool some bandages, and then begin wrapping his leg. You do not go over the pants. Instead, you slide your hand into the opening you created, guiding the end of the bandages underneath to the other side of his thigh.
It all feels too intimate, and Rex can’t help but linger on how close your hand is to something else.
“You can move your hand now.”
“Right,” mutters Rex, blinking quickly, trying to stare at the ceiling but failing completely.
Your subdued giggle draws his attention back to your face. Tying off the bandages, Rex mourns the loss of your hands when you draw away.
“All done.” You grin, and Rex melts. “I’ll grab you water and something to eat. We can talk after. Figure out a plan.”
We, as if it’s completely natural for you to help him, a stranger.
You bring him water first, and then go back to the small cooking unit, digging around for a pan to cook with while also grabbing ingredients. You shouldn’t do this for him, and yet you are. Rex’s military training tells him to be on guard, to be weary of you even if you’re showing him kindness. But that doesn’t sit right with him. Questioning your motivations taste wrong on his tongue, like he’s the bad person in this situation.
Watching you there next to the cooking unit, tending to him, it draws forth those memories again. Everything about this is too…domestic. Him reclining in bed as someone takes care of him for once is such a foreign thing. Odd. Almost forbidden.
He drifts, allows his mind to daydream of what a life like this could be like. With him, at rest for once, and someone close to him, wanting to do things for him just because they desire to do so.
But Rex doesn’t just think of someone. He thinks of you, and he sinks further and further into the daydream until the Republic, the war, and everything else in his life is a distant point in the galaxy.
But Rex needs to find General Skywalker. And you are a distraction. Healing is important but contacting Skywalker is even more urgent.
The meal you bring him is hot and so kriffing fresh that Rex nearly moans with pleasure. He could get used to this.
“Is it too intrusive to ask why you were running?” you ask, clasped hands resting in your lap. You’re sitting in the same spot on the edge of the bed, not opting to grab a chair or to sit anywhere else.
“I was poking around where I shouldn’t. Got caught.” Rex takes another bite and it’s better than the last.
“Are you alone? Or is there someone I can try to contact for you?” You shrug. “Don’t think it’s a good idea to turn you loose in the streets.”
“No,” laughs Rex. “Bad idea.” Your slightly embarrassed smile pleases him. While Rex ponders that, he also realizes he doesn’t know your name. “Here I am eating your food and sleeping in your bed. And I didn’t ask you your name.”
You give it without question and ask him the same. Rex considers whether or not he should tell you his real name or the fake one General Skywalker gave him for the job.
“It’s Rex,” he finally answers.
“Rex,” you say, as if rolling it around on your tongue, considering it and him, almost testing it out. Rex likes the way you say it. There is a soft sigh in the way you breathe his name. “Rex.”
“Just Rex.”
“Okay, Just Rex.”
He nearly chokes with laugher on the next bite of food. Once he clears his throat, Rex decides to be as honest as he can. “I’m traveling with someone. I need to find them.”
“I’ll go,” you say. “You shouldn’t leave.” Even though you’re staring at him, you still reach out and place a hand on his knee. You don’t break eye contact, and the earnestness is startling.
Rex gives you General Skywalker’s fake name and where you might find him. “It might be dangerous,” he says, trying to iterate the severity of the situation.
You squeeze his knee with a smile and stand, going to the closet to dig around. When you turn around, you hold up a large blaster. “I can handle myself.”
Using the strap, you secure it over your chest, the blaster hanging to the side. “I’ll be back. Don’t open the door for anyone.” You give him a little salute and Rex watches you leave through the front door.
The healing agent in the bacta spray and the need for rest creeps up. When the food is gone, Rex places the bowl to the side, slipping back into the daydream.
“Sleeping, Rex?”
Rex nearly launches himself off the bed. “General Skywalker,” he breathes, relief flooding his chest.
In the small doorway, you stand quietly, hands clasped tightly in front of your chest. You found him and even brought Skywalker with you.
He stops next to the side of the bed. “Glad you’re okay.”
Rex shrugs. “You would have come for me eventually.”
General Skywalker grins and nods his head. “That I would, Rex. I don’t like leaving my men behind. Especially you.” He glances at you standing in the doorway, and then turns back to Rex, one eyebrow arching in question. Rex nods, acknowledging Skywalker’s silent ask.
He exhales and approaches you. “Thank you. For taking care of my friend.” General Skywalker’s inclines his head in your direction.
“Of course. It’s nothing. Really.”
Skywalker holds out his hand and Rex clasps it. He drags Rex up to a seated position. “How’s the leg?”
“It’ll heal,” answers Rex. It’s already feeling better with the bacta spray on it.
“Can you walk?”
Rex stands. Wobbles. Remains upright. “I can manage, General.”
Skywalker glances at Rex’s torn pants. “We need to fix that.” He starts to remove his outer cloak and Rex shakes his head. “Don’t question it, Rex.”
Rex reluctantly grabs the cloak from General Skywalker and wraps it around himself, hiding the blaster burn. You step out of the way of the door to allow them exit. Rex’s glances at you and your lips turn upward.
At the door, Rex pauses, wanting to stay just a few minutes longer. “Thank you,” he says softly.
“Just avoid blaster bolts. If you can. For me.”
The back of Rex’s neck heats up and he exits the small house with a nod of his head. When the door whooshes shut, General Skywalker’s muted grin turns devilish.
“What?” asks Rex, flustered.
“You like her,” says Skywalker.
“I—I don’t.” Rex straightens his shoulders. “Why do you think that?”
General Skywalker taps the side of his head with one finger. “Jedi.”
“Sir. That explains nothing.”
“The feeling is mutual, Rex,” calls Skywalker over his shoulder as he starts walking down the street.
Rex nearly trips. “What’s mutual?” he asks, already knowing what his general means but not wanting to admit it to himself. General Skywalker gestures in the direction of your home. “No,” blurts Rex. “That’s not true.”
General Skywalker’s knowing grin is enough to silence him.
“You’ll see her again, Rex. I have a good feeling about it.”
“You’re doing a good thing, Rex. Even if you can’t always see it.” Your fingers slide over his jaw to gently cup his cheek. Rex leans into the touch, sighing heavily. “Saving one is an accomplishment, and you have rescued so many.”
After the Republic fell, and Rex and Ahsoka parted ways, he came to find you, only to bring you along with him on his journey to save his brothers’. You’re not on the frontlines, standing by his side in Imperial complexes, executing daring rescues. Rex wouldn’t allow that of you even if you insisted. You’re good with a blaster but you’re no soldier and losing you might shatter him.
Instead, you stay on Coruscant, awaiting each of his returns, ready to take care of, and look after, any clones Rex brings back with him. You never complain. Never waiver. You are his rock, a home for him to find a bit of peace from the unending injustices of the galaxy.
With your hand upon his cheek, you lean into him, resting your forehead against the side of his temple. “You’re a good man, Rex. I know that you know that.”
Rex’s fingers intertwine with yours. Bringing your hand up to his face, he gently kisses every knuckle and each finger. Sighing, you press lightly on his cheek, guiding Rex’s face in your direction. There is no brief pause or wanton hesitation. Rex knows where he stands with you, and his lips meet with your own in perfect satisfaction.
The future he dreamed of is here, with you, while rescuing his brothers.
The Empire is vast. It is powerful. But he is not alone. And that, the shared experience of companionship, is a hope in the face of a looming darkness.
Yes, I am hyperfocased on Rex right now. Yes I am still taking requests. Yed this is incredibly self indulgent.

Summary: Rex comes in with an injury that leads to a little heart-to-heart and, somehow, an entanglement with his pauldron?
“You’re very talented at your job, Rex, but you’re also very skilled at getting shot.”
The Captain, who currently had his right vambrace off to receive your attention, offered you a half-cheeky grin. “All part of the territory. We walk it off.”
“More like hobble.” You smiled at his response, though only to mask the underlying worry. Afterall, if you didn’t laugh eventually being a medic would break you. “And when you’re dead, you can’t walk it off.”
You may have worked on minor injuries and general illnesses by trade, but you still saw those same men dead a week later with various injuries, some you never saw again. And if you thought about Rex being one of those men one day, especially in front of him, you’d feel terrified of the possibility and embarrassed that he saw you.
You didn’t even want to think about what he’d say, or how he would react. He would either get flustered and stumble until he figured out what would help you feel better (which would make you feel bad about laughing, and bad for making him worry), or in a way you wouldn’t like nor would you be prepared for.
You’d much rather see him smile or hear him chuckle warmly.
“You okay, cyare?” Rex’s free hand found your cheek easily, unbothered by the bacta you sprayed over the torn skin (you were choosing to forget how, two minutes before, he had just released his first breath in what felt like ten minutes. Cleaning injuries was never painless, but it was the most pain he had ever shown on his face in front of you. You figured he may have preferred if you didn’t see, or hear, his pain).
Truly, how he was still able to talk and not look at you with some kind of hurt was baffling. How he could still run his thumb over your cheek like you were one of the few things he treasured most after it. But you were grateful for it.
“Yeah.” You replied after a moment. “Don’t have any reason why I wouldn’t be.”
His hum was sceptical as he moved his hand to your jaw. “I would believe you if you didn’t look so sad.”
You made a face as if to scoff. “I don’t look sad.” You felt sad, certainly, but you didn’t feel like your facial features were making such an expression. Of course, it didn’t mean that you weren’t making such a face, you were more focused on not being sad that it inevitably must have shown somewhere…
Maybe you did look upset afterall.
“Cyar’ika, c’mon.” Rex tilted your chin to encourage you to look at him. He looked concerned now, his brows sloped and eyes somehow wider despite it, as if silently pleading without realising. “What’s wrong?” Yet quiet you remained. “Hey,” his hand moved to your cheek and his thumb caressed your cheekbone, “talk to me.”
Rex was, indeed, very good at his job. And part of his job meant getting his men to open up to him about their troubles whilst being grounded. And when he showed concern, you find it difficult to remain too stubborn to say ‘it’s nothing’. Because he knew you were lying through pleasantries that were socially accepted as an unwritten rule to leave the conversation.
Very difficult, in fact.
“It’s nothing. Not something that you would be able to change, and I wouldn’t want you to either.” He rose a brow and you, happy with his bandages, sat on the edge of the bed. “I worry, sometimes, that’s all.”
“About?” He moved his bandaged limb to hold your waist, tender and sure, in encouragement.
“Every time the emergency alarm in the medbay goes off, I worry it’s you. Every time there’s a body bag, I worry it’s worry. When you go radio silent without warning, I worry it’s… I worry it’s you that’s been killed.” You pulled the gloves from your hands, disposed of them, and held his cheek softly. “Before you start looking sad, too, I knew I’d lose friends when I signed on. I knew it would be hard. And I know losing you could happen.”
Rex sat himself up, using his legs to balance himself, and he pressed his forehead to yours. He hummed in thought as he brushed his nose with yours and tugged you closer. “Can I let you in on a secret, mesh’la?”
“Yes?” you wanted to tilt your head, but his touch prevented you from doing so.
“I worry, too. That when I’m on the ground, and you’re not,” He spoke against your lips and stole a chaste kiss, “you’ll be one of the casualties.”
“Rex–”
“Listen,” you felt his fingers ease the hairband down your ponytail, slow as if trying not to let you notice, “I love you. Wasn’t interested in much but my duty to The Republic before. But I’m loyal to you and The Republic.”
“I–”
“So, what I’m sayin’ is, I won’t go down easy. Won’t and will not. First off, I’m damn good.” You laughed, and Rex smiled: success, in his mind, for he wiped away the frown. “Secondly, I want to see you again.”
His fingers followed your hair until the midsection, then pulled it to his lips. He didn’t seem to continue, but it sounded like there was more. You hoped there was something more. Something he wanted to say but thought against. You wanted to know.
“And…. thirdly?”
His eyes widened comically and your hair fell from his fingers. “Thirdly?” You hummed with a nod, your hair falling in front of your shoulders. “Thirdly,” sincerity returned as his hand cradled the back of your head, “how can I do this when I’m dead?”
You blinked. “Do… what?”
“This.”
“What?”
“This.”
“But what’s–” Oh. Rex’s lips were on yours. His fingers tangled loosely in your hair; his injured arm braved movement to weave around your waist. It was languid. Tender. Lips parting for a moment to lock together amidst a soft sigh. And when the kiss parted, he nuzzled his forehead against yours with your noses brushing together.
You let out a breath of a laugh. “Yeah… You can’t die now. Need to experience that a lot more.”
“You’ll get more, cyar’ika.” He went to kiss you again, but you pressed your index to his lips.
“Once your arm’s healed, love. Then you can kiss me as much as you like.” He almost groaned. Almost. It made you grin and his eyes glinted with mischief that you were sure you wouldn’t experience until the next day (and he may just sneak on you to kiss you against a wall before leaving again for more strategy tests and meetings).
You liked that gleam.
Even so, you had another patient to contend with (it was Hardcase, and he was too busy laughing with Fives and Jesse to hear anything). You moved to sit up, but there was a tug at your scalp. Sharp and painful enough to make you wince and verbalise it with a high-pitched but quiet ow.
“Mesh’la?” The concern from Rex was quick, but unnecessary.
“I’m trapped.” You almost laughed. You would have done it if his moving shoulder didn’t tug again. “Rex, stop moving your shoulder a minute. My hair’s tangled somewhere. Lemme follow it–”
“I’ve got it. Don’t worry.” He was calm now, his fingers following the tangled hair to his shoulder. Specifically, the double pauldron. How, was beyond anyone’s guess. “Guess it wants to be with me forever.”
You laughed then, feeling the movement of his digits. “I’m jealous. It gets to stick to you.”
“I’d prefer it return to you.” He quipped.
“That’s cute, but if it needs snipping to be freed, you could put it in your pocket for good luck.”
“You’re adorable for that thought.”
“You know me.”
Rex laughed for a moment. “Jesse!” His voice rang in your ears loudly. Laughter stopped and Jesse’s head popped in through the door. “Get the scissors from my office.”
“Need help?” Jesse’s hand covered the face of the curious Fives, but he wore a smile of knowledge.
“I would suggest you remove the pauldron for me since I can’t.” He lifted his injured hand. “But I think that will be more painful for the good doctor here.”
“Roger that, Sir.”
You sighed slowly. The boys were going to tease Rex relentlessly over this for weeks. Of course, that’s what siblings are there for.

Summary: “You’re s-safe, thank the Force.” His hold on you tightens when you hiss in pain, but you never once turn away from him, wanting to commit every moment to memory. If you survive this, you are sure you will never come this close to him again. But if you die, oh, if you die, then you would have spent your last seconds showing him how much he means to you.
A/N: This is for @imarvelatthestars who is also taking part in the @cloneficgiftexchange. I hope you enjoy this and I can’t wait for you to read the two other fics as well. Also, hi it’s nice to meet you :) This was originally going to be just fluff but my hands slipped and they went all the way so I hope you don’t mind. P.S. This is the first time I write for our dear Captain so I hope I got his character down correctly. If not, please let me know how I can write him better. As always, reblogs are appreciated.
It was becoming unbearable, mustering up the courage to fight every day in a war that meant absolutely nothing, that held no benefits for anyone except for those in political standings. The feeling of dread only worsened in the past few months, almost as soon as you were added to the 501st as another General. Count Dooku’s thirst for blood has increased, and you had this fear that it wasn’t only him. No, there was something much bigger playing at hand.
Perhaps someone even.
Shaking the dreadful thoughts aside, you scan the grounds quickly to see if any of your men were still alive. As you walk through the carnage, you will yourself to come to terms with the reality of this new life that has been thrust upon you, the recognition that it was most likely worse for your men making you wince angrily before returning to the task at hand.
“General,” the familiar voice of your Captain shifts your attention behind you, and you nod with an exasperation you’re sure is visible to him as you head towards his equally fatigued body.
“Any news on whether Anakin managed to get the intel?” You rub the side of your temple as you wait for Captain Rex to focus on you instead of his dead brothers surrounding you.
“He uh, he didn’t get there in time. He thinks one of the super tactical droids destroyed everything before it self-destructed.” You can hear the disappointment in his voice, and you look into his eyes for a moment to gauge his reaction. Grief swims in his eyes as he returns your gaze, and you hate that you don’t have to look at him to know what’s going through his mind. His Force signature is a cool shade of blue, one that parallels the lines adorning his armor, and your heart clenches when you see how different it is from the normally calming purple hue often surrounding him and setting your mind at ease. You’re reminded once again of just how much of a toll this war is taking on him and his brothers, and you turn away from him out of fear of bursting into tears and making matters worse.
If only you could comfort him beyond what’s deemed appropriate.
If only you could tell him how you feel.
“Don’t worry General, we’ll get them next time.” You hate that he’s trying to make you feel better when it is you who should be offering him supporting words. No words manage to part your lips, and you hum at him as you kick one of the battle droids nearby, trying to distract yourself from pushing past those hidden boundaries and embracing him in an attempt to return those affections he so clearly pushed upon you.
Just as you walk around him, you sense a strange feeling overtake your mind, and you glance to the side quickly, not really thinking of what you’re doing as you step in front of the Captain and activate your lightsaber. The sequence of the blaster shots drives your anger deeper, and you evade them to the best of your abilities, away from Rex and yourself until they each hit the battle droid attempting to kill you.
Scanning the area one last time, your mouth runs dry when you turn around and watch pure and utter shock display as clear as daylight on your Captain’s features. Pushing the weapon back into the holster around your hips, you smile at him to let him know that he would always be safe with you, only to tilt your head in confusion when he doesn’t return the gesture. You follow his line of sight and watch as the adrenaline of the battle leaves your body and makes way for a searing hot pain shooting through your side. Pushing your palm against your hip, you take it away and find it laced with fresh blood.
“C-Commander?”
In all the time you have spent with Rex, you have never once heard him display such unadulterated fear, not when he was near death all those months ago, nor when he thought there was no escape for him and his brothers after a particularly draining battle.
“Rex.”
You whisper his name as you fall to your knees, but strong arms reach for you before you hit the ground, turning you over and pushing violently against the wound to prevent it from bleeding.
“Kriff, why- why would you…you shouldn’t have-” He can’t get a single word out, and you try your best to set aside the pain shooting through your body so you can enjoy being in his arms. You feel your muscles give out, barely allowing you to reach up and caress his cheek. You don’t realize you’ve painted his beautiful skin with blood until you see tears rolling down his cheeks and stream a pink line to his chin.
“You’re s-safe, thank the Force.” His hold on you tightens when you hiss in pain, but you never once turn away from him, wanting to commit every moment to memory. If you survive this, you are sure you will never come this close to him again. But if you die, oh, if you die, then you would have spent your last seconds showing him how much he means to you.
“Stay with me, mesh’la.” He leans down and rests his forehead against your own, distracting you enough before he lifts you in his arms and runs to the nearest gunship. You clutch onto his shoulder like your life depends on it, unable to hold back from crying as each movement sends throbbing stabs down your spine and across your hip. You can faintly hear his apologies, and you rest your head against his shoulder to distract yourself once again. This close, you can smell his natural scent, and you shiver when you recognize how musky and sweet it is as it seeps through your senses.
You think you hear him call for Kix, but you can’t stay awake for much longer, the blood loss and your body’s fatigued nature taking over as soon as you get on the gunship. Rex puts you down with ease, but he snaps your name harshly when he sees you shutting your eyes and going limp in his arms again.
“Don’t close your eyes,” it’s his Captain voice, and you laugh at the demanding tone he’s aiming at you, only to cough violently and clutch at your side when your body jolts forward.
“I thought I g-give the orders here?” He doesn’t bother to smile at you, and you hate that he knows you’re only trying to diffuse the tension. When you look up at him, you find him frowning down at you, the blue aura around him now turning even darker as he looks around to see if Kix is nearby.
You gulp as the ship comes to life, and the harder you try to remain awake, the more tired your mind becomes. As you look around you, you find several of the men staring at you with worry etched on their features, and you feel a sense of peace wash over you at the thought of being so important to them. You can no longer keep yourself conscious, and just as you turn your head to the side and see Kix jumping into the gunship, you surrender to a deep sleep filled with midnight blue embraces and loving words.
A bright light wakes you from your haze, and you flutter your eyes quickly to get used to the blinding rays shining down on you. You try to get up immediately but a hand to your shoulder keeps you laying down, and you look to the side to see Kix whispering calming words to you.
“You nearly gave us a fright Commander,” he says after a while, and you look around to try and figure out where you are, only to find an extremely uncomfortable and worried Captain standing by your bed.
“Rex…”
“What were you thinking, hmm?” He snaps harshly at you, making you furrow your eyebrows in curiosity before you turn to Kix. Before you can say anything, Kix walks around and pushes Rex’s chest, urging him to move back and calm himself.
“You may be the Captain, but I outrank you here. I will not have you yelling at one of my patients. Understand?” His tone is firm, and you giggle at the thought of hearing one of Rex’s men not minding getting physical with him.
“I…feel weird.” You sigh deeply and look down, only to see several tubes coming in and out of your skin.
“That would be the Bacta IV. You weren’t doing so well Commander, a simple bacta patch wouldn’t have done the trick.” Kix removes himself from Rex but remains in between the two of you, checking on the needles one last time before moving to the other end of the room. You watch as he makes himself busy, and whatever conscious part of your mind thinks that he’s only pretending so he can give the two of you some privacy.
“To answer your question Captain, I- uhhh…I wasn’t thinking.” You drag the sheets down your body, suddenly feeling flushed as Rex continues to stare at you with a fiery anger you never thought him capable of.
“Actually, that’s…n-not true. I was thinking…but- you know what I mean.” You are not making much sense, and when Rex sighs before pulling up a chair to sit next to you, you smile at you and reach for his hand. He takes it reluctantly but never once looks at you. Neither of you say anything for a while, and you slowly begin to fall asleep when he continues to rub your wrist with his thumb.
“What were you thinking mesh’la…”
It’s a rhetorical question, or at least, you would have recognized that it is had you been more aware and less drugged. You open your eyes and gaze into his own, finding them filled with unshed tears. He looks defeated, and you frown at him while you tug on his hand to bring him closer to you.
“Don’t…don’t cry. It makes me sad to see you cry Rex.”
He chuckles then and you smile at him, rubbing the back of his hand in return to soothe him a little.
“I was thinking of you, and- and how it would kill me if I were to lose you. I can’t lose you Rex, I- I would not survive another day without you…I love you too much to let you go.” You’re not sure why the room is suddenly silent. All you know is, Rex’s Force signature has turned a deep shade of red and his fingers stopped drawing patterns on your skin. You think you hear Kix turn around but you’re too busy looking into the Captain’s eyes to register anything that’s not him.
“Mesh’la,” you want to ask him what the word means, but your eyes grow heavy yet again, and you rest your cheek on the pillow while gazing into his hazel, brown orbs. Before you can say anything else, you fall right back to sleep, completely missing Rex’s reaction to your confession and Kix’s reassurances that you were stable but required to rest further.
You dream of a time filled with peace, of longing gazes and soft caresses. Your mind fills your heart with hopes and wishes, ones you pretend are not impossible to reach. Your heart, once guarding a close-kept secret, finally feels as light as a feather, and it clenches softly when it hears revelations of a similar love, words yo uneven thought would be reciprocated as desperately.
It’s this last sensation that wakes you again, except this time, you’re less dazed than before but much more awake. Sitting up quickly, you study the room you’re in and take a few deep breaths to try and collect your bearings.
“Commander, you’re safe. You’re alive and safe. Breathe, breathe for me.” You look up and watch as Kix guides you through breathing techniques, and only when you’re relaxed and aware of your surroundings do you finally notice the other figure standing nearby.
“How long have I been out?” You ask as you look down and move the medbay gown to the side to see the wound. It’s fully healed and you throw Kix a quick glance, silently thanking him for everything that he has done for you.
“Almost 22 hours, sir. It’s quite remarkable actually, most people would take much longer to heal, even with the bacta. Then again, you’re a Jedi after all.” He checks your vitals, not bothering to mention that Rex is in the room. When he’s sure you’re all clear, he steps aside and finishes some reports on his holopad. You look to your right and watch as Rex slowly approaches you, sitting down on a chair near your bedside and slowly reaching for your hand. You’re surprised by the gesture but don’t deny him, looking back to Kix to see if he is aware of what his Captain is doing.
“How are you feeling?”
“Like a bantha ran me over,” you laugh at your own reply, but Rex doesn’t grace you with a hint of a smile. There is something nagging at the back of your mind, and you narrow your eyes at your joined hands, only to gasp lightly when he rubs your wrist and moves closer to you. If Kix notices what’s happening, he says nothing and turns around to give you some privacy.
“Do you…do you remember anything?” Rex asks reluctantly, and you get the sense that he wants to tell you something but is holding back out of fear of your reaction.
“I remember walking through the battle, and…and talking with you. I remember a droid trying to shoot at you but I took him down before he hurt you. And…I remember getting shot at.” You recollect the events of the last rotation to the best of your abilities, and when you stop speaking, you notice Rex’s aura shift to a cool haze once more.
Kriff, what was it?
“You don’t remember anything else?” He asks yet again, and you tilt your head to the side in confusion, his tone of voice bordering that of a man who has just lost everything he ever had.
“I- I uhh…no. I don’t.” You shake your head several times to figure out if he was referring to anything specific. When you turn to Kix to ask him if he knows what his Captain is talking about, you notice an apologetic expression on his features, one that was not aimed at you but his brother. Before you can say anything, Rex lets go of your hands, making you wish you can give him whatever answer he was searching for.
“I see,” it’s all Rex says before he stands up and pushes the chair back to the wall. You watch as he takes a stance and salutes you, his eyes never meeting your own again as he thanks you for saving him before running out of the room. You don’t turn away from the shut door until Kix walks by and checks your vitals again.
There is so much you want to ask him, but knowing Kix, you get the sense that he wouldn’t tell you even if you begged. He was good at keeping secrets, always has been.
“You’re cleared to leave General, though I do suggest you take it easy for the next few days. You may have physically healed but the psychological strain will take longer to get back to normal. Will you be needing any pain medication?” Kix asks as he takes out all of the needles and tubes from your arms, and you shake your head while you look up at him, hoping that you find whatever answer Rex was looking for swimming in his eyes. He avoids your gaze altogether, and you shut your eyes in irritation at the thought of upsetting Rex.
Maker, what was it?
You do your best to not take your frustration out on Kix as you get dressed, and before you leave, you thank him for taking care of you for the past rotation. He offers you his best wishes before returning to his seat and you make your way back to your quarters in the Jedi Temple slowly, all the while trying to figure out what transpired that made Rex ask you several times if you remembered anything, but more importantly, what you could have possibly said that upset Rex so much and made him leave without sparing you a second glance.
You keep to yourself as you head to your rooms, searching your mind for any clue as to what has happened after the battle. When you finally make it to the privacy of your space, you remove all of your clothes and go straight to the refresher, wanting to get rid of the blood and grime that has stuck to your skin for the past day. But no matter what you do, you can’t remember anything past the battlefield, and you feel your mind almost collapse on itself when the annoyance of memory loss turns into sheer anger.
Force above, what was it?
It occurs to you much later than you would care to admit that there was no way you can recall anything if you’re this unstable, and against your better judgment, you make your way to one of the meditation rooms instead of getting some rest as Kix suggested. As soon as you enter the quiet place, you move near one of the fountains, finding the consistent sound of water soothing to your soul. As you sit down, you take a few deep breaths and clear your mind of anything not related to the Captain of the 501st.
As you initially thought, it’s much more difficult to focus your mind when all you can feel is guilt for making Rex feel so disappointed and sad. You recall back all of the conversations you’ve held with him, especially the ones that lasted for an entire night as you kept watch before a serious battle. You remember the snide remarks aimed at Anakin, and the jokes he often laughed at the expense of Ahsoka. You remember and remember…
But no matter what you think of, you still can’t quite figure out what happened in the past rotation.
Willing yourself to focus harder, you decide to empty your mind altogether, even of those moments with Rex that you cherished and kept closely-guarded within your heart.
The Coruscanti sun slowly moves past the horizon but you remain seated against the flowing waters, pleading with the Force to give you a sliver of a hint so you can fix whatever wrong you made against Rex.
It’s only when your senses finally still do you see a faint dark red pass through your mind’s eye. You zero in on the memory, pushing yourself past your levels of comfort to seek out the desperate aura once again.
I was thinking of you.
Your voice rings through your mind, not sounding normal to your ears, but you are confident it is your own. Clenching your fists tightly, you seek out the memory until it flashes before your eyes as clear as the searing Twin Suns on a hot Tatooine day.
I can’t lose you Rex.
A faint sensation passes down your arm to your wrist, and you feel Rex’s thumb halt in its movement the more you reveal to him your secret. You can see his hands shaking as you pull him closer to you, the words spilling from your mouth making your heart skip a beat as realization washes over you.
I love you too much to let you go.
The last image flashing before your eyes is the look of utter shock that befalls Rex’s handsome features, and had it not been for the soft manner in which he whispers that one word to you in return, you would think he was completely repulsed by what you just confessed to him.
You open your eyes instantly, wincing yet again when your senses become overloaded with the sounds and scents all around you. Looking around the room, you take a few minutes to come to terms with the reality of what has transpired between yourself and the Captain.
Maker.
You had told him what you promised yourself you would never reveal to him.
In a moment of weakness, your heart decided to reveal its deepest secret instead of continuing to keep it hidden.
Looking outside the large glass windows, you notice how dark it became outside and curse yourself for taking so long to remember. It would be inappropriate to go to him now.
You look down to your hand and trace the skin Rex has touched all those hours ago, smiling to yourself when you recognize that your heart has already made the decision for you.
Not caring for how mad you must look, you race outside of the meditation rooms and run through the hallways of the Temple, ignoring the strange and concerning looks from the others still awake as you make it past the gates of your home and towards the barracks of the 501st Legion. It is raining uncontrollably outside, and you nearly lose your footing a few times as you run across the grounds towards the familiar building near the Jedi Temple. You see a handful of men hanging outside the barracks, and they try to call out to you to see if you need any assistance, but you pay them no mind, heading straight to the quarters of the Captain and ignoring how soaked you’ve become in your journey to him.
When you reach the hallways housing the Clone leaders, you slow down and move past the doors silently, praying to the maker that he was in his quarters and not elsewhere. As you reach the end of the hallway, you come to a stop in front of the large, steel doors housing Rex, and before you can think twice of what you’re doing, you push a few buttons on the pad beside the doors, waiting patiently for them to slide open to you.
There is a faint sound of frustrated sighs from behind the door, and you nearly laugh at the sudden turn of events, but the doors slide open and reveal an extremely tired and irritated Clone Captain, one that had just gotten out of the showers from the looks of it.
“Fives, if I have to tell you one more time- kriff, G-General!” His eyes widen in horror at the sight of you, and he walks out to the hallway to see if there are any signs of danger that led you to him. When he finds it as empty as ever, he turns back around and eyes you suspiciously.
“General, what- what are you doing here?” Rex asks, continuing to avoid your gaze as he moves back to his quarters and tugs you along with him. You realize too late that you probably shouldn’t be found at such an odd hour in your Captain’s private rooms, but you brush the thought aside, knowing that this could not wait for another time. You don’t respond right away though, and Rex studies you slowly before moving to his dresser and taking out a pair of sweatpants and a shirt.
“Here, change into these.” He throws the articles of clothing towards you, but you throw them back on the bed instantly, approaching him slowly to avoid scaring him.
“Captain.” You try to catch his attention, but Rex is adamant on not sparing you a single glance, moving to the other end of the room and grabbing one of his shirts before putting it on quickly.
“I don’t mind General,” he attempts to distract you, and you shake your head at him while following him around the small room.
“Captain, please.”
“You’re going to catch a cold, and I’m not going to hear the end of it from Kix.” Rex ignores whatever you’re saying and rubs his temples furiously, making you wish he would just look at you instead of avoiding you as if you were just another commanding officer.
As if you hadn’t spilled your heart out to him a day ago.
Your frustrations nearly get to you, but you quickly come to understand that the man in front of you would continue ignoring your pleas if you didn’t cut to the chase and tell him what you came here for.
“I remember.”
Rex stops in his pacing, dropping his arms to his side and looking at the gray wall ahead of him. He doesn’t move a muscle, and your heart skips a beat when the hue around him turns into that familiar shade of burgundy once more, the same one that graced your sight when you told him how much you love him.
“I remember, Rex.”
You repeat your words and watch as he slowly turns around and meets your eyes in a heated gaze. He continues to remain silent and you take the chance to step closer to him, hoping that he doesn’t get spooked by your revelation and walk away again.
“You- you remember?” His question is laced with a faltering anxiety that you hate you’ve caused him to feel, and you close the last bit of space between the two of you, smiling at him as you reach for his hand and rub your thumb over his wrist.
“I remember…I remember everything Rex.”
He gulps down at you, watching carefully as you extend his wrist up to your mouth and lay the softest of kisses across the sensitive skin beneath your thumb. His sharp intake of breath sends a shiver down your spine, and before you can say anything else, Rex pushes you back against the nearest wall and attacks your lips in a desperate kiss. You moan into him immediately, throwing your arms around his shoulders just as he leans down and grabs your hips to hoist you up in between his rigid body and the solid wall behind you.
You part your lips in a gasp and Rex takes advantage of your shock, sneaking his tongue into your mouth and devouring you without a care for anything except the lewd noises you are gracing him with. He doesn’t know where he can touch you, but as he feels your nail sink into his neck, he breaks the kiss and moans your name over and over again, giving you but a moment of respite before lunging for your mouth once again. You’re soaking wet, and you want to warn him so he doesn’t get wet as well, but he doesn’t let up once, moving down your jaw and licking the droplets of water sticking to your skin. His tongue feels hot against your already flushed skin, but you can’t find it in yourself to complain, not when you finally had him in your arms, stealing your breath with such needy kisses. You don’t realize you’re crying until he pulls away abruptly and looks at you with concern.
“No, please…don’t stop. I’m just- I’m so happy.” You try to bring him back again but he’s much stronger than you, keeping some bit of distance between your mouth until he can ask you that burning question.
“Are you sure I’m not hurting you, mesh’la?”
“No, gods no. I never thought you’d reciprocate my feelings Rex, and- and when I remembered the way you looked at me, I…I ran over here.” Your smile grows when you notice the soft smirk gracing his handsome features, and you lean your forehead against his own briefly to relish in the moment.
“I love you, cyare…so damn much. I- I thought I lost you back there…couldn’t, couldn’t believe what you did for me. And then you told me why and I nearly lost my mind all over again.” He lays as many kisses as possible across your entire face, making you sniffle each time he reveals to you what was going through his mind.
“I love you too Rex, have been ever since I joined your legion.” The sentiment manages to put a halt to his words and he looks at you for what you deem is too long before leaning down and taking your lips in between his own again. It’s much less frantic than before, but it is just as deeply felt, and you tilt your head to the side to deepen it further, whining against him when he removes the both of you from the wall and walks back to his bed.
He lays you down softly and continues to leave a trail of kisses down your neck, swearing beneath his breath when you reach for his shirt and try to remove it off of him.
“Rex, what- oh kriff, what does that word mean?” You manage to ask in between each kiss and nip he marks your body with, whispering his name over and over again when he chuckles at you and sits up to remove his shirt. You bite into your lower lip as soon as he reveals his broad chest to you, giggling like a little girl as Rex throws his shirt aside and drags his hand up and down your body.
“Why don’t I show you sweetheart?” The Captain descends down upon you possessively, dragging his hands everywhere with an aggressiveness you’ve never seen him display before. He has you whimpering in the span of a few minutes, and with each bit of fabric he rips from your body, you’re left wishing he would put you out of your misery and claim you.
“Please, Rex.” You beg shamelessly, covering your eyes with your arm when you’re left in nothing but your undergarments.
“Shh, I got you cyar’ika…I got you.” The Captain coos at you as he traces lines up and down your body, passing his fingers in between your thighs teasingly and laughing when he notices goosebumps erupt across your skin. You peak from above your wrist, only to find him studying you closely and with a hunger unseen on his features before.
“S-stop looking at me like that.” You turn your head to the side when he drags your arms away from your face and places them above your head, making you wish he wasn’t enjoying making you flustered.
“Like what?” He’s nearly breathless as he asks you the question, not caring for how wanton he looks as he hovers his lips above your sternum before slowly making his way down your stomach.
“Like…like-” You can’t find the words to tell him what he looks like, mostly because you know he’ll only laugh and reiterate whatever you say in agreement and cause you to feel even more embarrassed at being the subject of his scrutiny.
“Like I want to eat you? Like I want to devour every fucking inch of you? Like I want to mark you with my teeth and hands until the whole kriffing galaxy knows who’s making you feel good? Is that how I’m looking at you sweet girl?” He pronounces each question with a harsh bite to your skin, smiling wickedly at you as he descends between your thighs and shoves them wide open to make room for himself.
“Y-yes…I- oh gods please Rex, just- just…”
“I hate to break it to you ner cyare, but I will never,” he growls his need for you against the edge of your panties, biting down and chuckling when you twitch beneath him and reach for his shoulder, “ever,” his voice is much rougher, and you think that perhaps he will kill you through sheer frustration, “ stop looking at you like that.” You whine his name, and as you try to ask him once more to not be so brazen with you, he shoves his nose into your core and breathes in deeply. It’s absolutely filthy, the manner in which he nudges along the damp material hiding you from him while staring directly into your eyes. You shouldn’t be surprised by how far dilated his pupils are, but as you sink your nails into his muscles, you furrow your eyebrows and will yourself to continue staring at him, wanting to ensure that he wants this just as much as you.
“Rex…please, touch me.” You slide one of your hands up to his cheek, cupping his chiseled jaw beneath your palm out of fear of having him move away.
“I am touching you, mesh’la.” Rex raises a curious eyebrow at you, nuzzling into your hand when he feels you settle down and whine in frustration.
“I need more.” You hope he understands what you’re trying to say, but it seems that Rex wants nothing more than to push you over the edge of irritation, huffing out in laughter once as he leans over and kisses your inner thighs.
“Like this?” He asks, licking the spot he’s kissed before moving to the space just below your hip and nipping it lightly. “Or like this?” He inquires with a whisper, taking the edge of your panties in between his teeth and pulling them up until he makes sure you’re still looking at him before letting go and smirking at the snapping sound that forces you to jolt your hips into his face. He must be able to see the annoyance etched on your features because as soon as you try to sit up on your elbows and give him a piece of your mind, he drags both of his hands beneath your thighs and hoists them up until you’re perfectly laid out for him.
“Rex, if you don’t- ahhh fuck,” you throw your head back as soon as you feel the heat of his mouth engulf your wet core. He’s licking you violently through the flimsy fabric of your panties, and when you manage to look down at him through dazed eyes, Rex shoves the material aside and shoves his tongue violently against your clit. You drag your nails across his scalp before you realize how painful it might be, but when you attempt to grab anything else, Rex shakes his head and sucks on your clit before letting go altogether.
“Don’t fucking stop…mark me baby, mark me so the whole GAR knows who fucks you like the filthy jetii’ika I know you are.” Your eyes widen in shock at his words, amazed that the normally respectful and shy Captain is capable of groaning the filthiest words ever as he goes down on you. You return your hands to his blonde hair, a zap of lightning shooting across your muscles when you feel the buzzed cut tickle your heated skin while he continues to fuck you with his tongue.
“Rex…oh fuck, you- you feel so good. Please don’t stop…don’t stop Captain!” You don’t mean for the honorific to fall so easily from your lips, and you look down to see if it made him uncomfortable, only to find him staring hungrily at you as he pulls you harder on his face.
“Is that what you want, cyar’ika? You want me to be your Captain…give you orders and make you cum on my face before I fuck you till you can’t feel your legs?” You know it’s a rhetorical question because he returns his attention to your engorged clit soon after, laying his tongue flat against your bundle nerves as he drools over the fingers resting just below his mouth. You want to watch him as he worships you, commit to memory the desperation filling every muscle of his body as he shows you how much he craves you, but as soon as he eases two of his fingers past your slit and rubs against your walls, you’re shutting your eyes and arching your back at the sudden flash of pleasure that takes over your whole body.
“Cum for me ner jetii’ika,” the tone of his voice, along with the needy order, are all it takes for you to reach your pleasure, and you dig your nails into his scalp in an attempt to bring him closer to you as you roll your hips back and forth against his mouth. You can’t feel anything except his tongue and his fingers, and you manage to look down through heavy-lidded eyes to watch Rex as he makes you cum. Your body shakes violently when you see his Force signature turn into a bright cloud of red, the shade validating to you the Captain’s feelings as he continues to assault your cunt until you grow oversensitive.
You try to push him off of you but he is relentless in his mission to pleasure you, wrapping his arms around your hips and pushing down your body until you understand that he won’t be letting you go anytime soon. You feel empty all of a sudden, but then you notice his wet fingers as they grab you through your chest bindings and you feel another wave of ecstasy slowly creep up on you.
“R-Rex…I-”
“Drench my face, sir.” You’re not sure what it is that coaxes another orgasm out of you, if it is the way he orders you to cum on his mouth again, or the sound of the honorific falling from his lips as he licks and sucks on your clit. You scream his name like a benediction, the sensation he was bringing upon your fatigued body driving you mad with lust. You can faintly hear him moan your name in return, and it’s only when you look down after he’s let up do you realize that you’ve done exactly what he wanted and drenched his face. You should be embarrassed, but as Rex licks at you softly with a lazy smile, you realize that he may have enjoyed this more than you.
“Oh maker, I- I’ve never…” You try to speak but your voice comes out hoarse, making Rex laugh even harder as he sits up and wipes his face with the back of his hand.
“That was the sexiest fucking thing I’ve ever seen sweetheart…I want you to do it again.” He drags his gaze down your body as he brings his fingers to his mouth and sucks on them, the same ones that were showing you stars not a moment ago. He looks positively sinful, and you giggle embarrassingly at him before you try to reach for the tent on his sweatpants.
“No,” he grips your wrist tightly and falls against you, pushing you down into his bed with his whole body before reaching for both of your hands and laying them above your head. You frown at him, unsure why he was denying you the same pleasure he brought upon you.
“Don’t look so upset, mesh’la.” He winks at you as he kisses down your neck and licks the water droplets sticking to your sternum. You sigh heavily and extend your neck out further to give him more access, the action pleasing him more than you thought it would and making him groan deeply into your breasts. “Believe me when I tell you…if you touch me now, this night will end much earlier than I would like it to.” He sucks bruises across your chest, managing to hold both of your wrists with one hand while the other moves to unbind the wrapping around your breasts. It doesn’t take much to reveal you to his eyes, and when you’re finally freed of the offending article of clothing, Rex growls before ascending upon you, not caring for how rough he’s being as he takes a nipple in between his teeth while he rolls his thumb over the other.
“Ah f-fuck…Rex, you- your tongue is- oh kriff, I need you Captain…please. I want to feel you, want you to fuck me, hard.”
“Yeah sweetheart?” Rex soothes the love bites with his tongue, swirling the rough muscle around your hardened peak until your chest rises and falls rapidly. He’s memorizing every inch of your skin, and you notice his smile grow deeper when he sees evidence of his claim beginning to appear all over your body. You always imagined him to be possessive with things he enjoyed, but you never thought once you’d be at the receiving end of such dedication, such admiration.
“Claim me, my dear Captain.” You plead one last time, tilting your head down to try and kiss the top of his head in an attempt to make him lose control. The gesture does the trick, and Rex ascends up your body and takes your lips in between his own, ripping the breath out of your lungs as he sucks and licks into your mouth until you could no longer focus on anything but the sensations he was ringing from your body. You whine and moan for him as he pushes you harder into his sheets, and when you tries to rest his weight on one of his arms, you throw your own around his neck and pull him as flush to you as possible.
“I want to feel you, all of you.” You whisper the request against his cheek, kissing his jaw lightly in anticipation for what comes next. When you sense his hand moving down your body, you nip across his neck and mirror his actions from earlier, distracting him on his journey just as he did with you not a moment ago.
“Fuck sweetheart, you’re going to be the death of me.” Rex groans against your forehead as he struggles to pull the edge of his sweatpants down his hips. It becomes very clear to him soon that you weren’t going to let up on marking his skin, and he sighs in irritation before deciding to pull his cock out from underneath the band of his pants.
“Please Rex,” you urge him with soft pleas and wet kisses, laying your head back to look into his eyes as he pushes aside your panties and rubs your clit with the hard tip of his cock.
“Are you ready for me, cyare?” Rex asks, furrowing his eyebrows in focus so as to not hurt you. You nod frantically at him, widening your legs even further to allow him to settle more comfortably in between your thighs.
“Fuck me, Captain.” You breathe against his quivering lips, sighing in relief when the crown of his dick catches at your wet entrance.
“Yes, sir!” It’s all the warning you get before Rex thrusts his throbbing cock into your cunt, and you watch with fascination as the aura shadowing over the two of you becomes an even deeper shade of red, one that mixed perfectly with his normally blue hue and created a soothing new wave to your eyes.
Neither of you move, looking into the other’s eyes to ensure that this was actually happening.
Rex struggles to breathe, and you massage his neck with your fingers before shifting your hips to get closer to him. The movement sends his cock gliding against your clenching walls, and you both moan the other’s name as you feel pure ecstasy take over your spirits.
“You- you feel…” Rex tries to speak, but he loses focus of the sentence, instead moving all of his attention into committing this moment to memory.
“Perfect.” You finish his thought, leaning up and kissing his lips once before relaxing back into the mattress and silently urging him to move. When he pulls out of you and pushes back in slowly, you realize that you’ll never get enough of this.
Enough of him.
And from the way he was gazing down at you, it seems that the feeling was mutual.
“Rex, just- I want you to cum. I don’t care about me, I only w-want to feel you cum.” You cross your legs behind his back to bring him deeper inside you, the action forcing a cry from his lips that sounds awfully like your name. You giggle beneath him, pride feeling your chest at being the one to bring him to such pleasure.
“I- I’ll be damned if you don’t cum on my cock at least once tonight, mesh’la.” The promise is accompanied with a dangerous glint in his eyes, and you gulp nervously at him, shutting your eyes to relish in the feeling of being so full. Each thrust brings about a fresh wave of arousal to your core, and you dig your nails into his back to show him just how good he’s making you feel. The delicious drag of his cock across your tight walls nearly makes you question whether this was all real, not because you didn’t expect him to feel so perfect inside you, but because he was so much better than your imagination.
His grunts are music to your ears, and you leave a trail of kisses across face the closer he gets to his peak, wanting him to scream your name when he finally cums and claims you. It’s a battle of needs at this point, with your minds telling you to make this last as long as possible but your joined bodies screaming for a sweet release. You can feel every inch of him, every hard vein slide against your fluttering walls the harder he fucks into you.
There is so much on your mind, so much you want to tell him, but you’re not coherent enough to remotely breathe out a string of affirmations to him, so you instead look back into his eyes and hope he can see right through you, recognize every bit of your heart that has always screamed his name since they day you met.
“I- I won’t last much longer, cyar’ika.” He manages to confess as he thrusts become harder, deeper, more intimate. You shake your head and whisper your lack of care for what he just said, wanting him to finally mark you as his own and fill you with his seed. There’s something inherently faithful about wanting him to fuck his cum inside you, a sensation you’re aware would scream your devotion to each other but is against every rule set in place for someone like you…someone like him as well,
But you can’t find it in yourself to care, not when Rex was finally sinking so sweetly into your pussy over and over again until you couldn’t think of anything else but how utterly divine he felt as he joined your bodies with a string of unparalleled pleasure.
“Ner jetii’ika, I- I’m…oh kriff, where do I-”
“Inside me, please!” You cut him off, swallowing his moans as he shakes above you while bringing one of his hands in between your bodies, the sudden touch of his digits against your oversensitive clit making you arch your back into his chest and part your lips for him. He grunts several times while rubbing your hardened bundle of nerves, swirling his tongue around your own when he feels you clench harshly around him. You shudder beneath him, unable to fathom the sensations he was pulling from you so easily, so exquisitely. Just as you break the kiss to breathe, Rex growls your name in between expletives, shoving his cock into you a few times before finally coming undone. Your pleasure lasts for longer than you thought possible, the feeling of his seed painting your walls and oozing out of you somehow making you feel even more attuned to his pleasure, as if his ecstasy was connected to your own and refused to part from it. He bucks his hips into you with shallow thrusts, resting his forehead against your chest as he slowly comes down from the brief high.
You’re both too dazed to move a single muscle, and when you try to unwrap your legs from around him, Rex hisses in surprise at feeling your pussy flutter around him one last time. He finally sits up to look at you, and you watch as the smirk on his face grows with each bit of skin he sees adorned with his touch.
“So…all of that means ‘mesh’la’?” You break the silence and laugh along with him when he finally catches on to what you’re referring to, only to hiss in discomfort when he pulls out of you and leaves you empty. You watch as Rex reluctantly sits up and shoves your thighs apart to look at the mess he’s made of you. You want to shake your head at him, call him disgusting for being so obvious with what he’s done to you, but when you find him biting his lips and staring at you with newfound lust, you realize that teasing him may not be the best idea now.
“Fuck cyare, you look beautiful.” You giggle as you hide behind your arms once more, making Rex tease you about your shy bedside manner when he was literally fucking you into kingdom come not a moment ago. He gets up and walks to the refresher, quickly coming back to you to clean you up so you don’t have to move much. You can’t help but look at him with adoration as he rubs every inch of your skin. He’s careful and patient with you, taking his time to caress your skin before throwing the towel aside and reaching for one of his shirts to hand you.
“Why give me a shirt when you know you’ll take it off of me in another hour?” You ask him teasingly, laughing hysterically when he throws it aside and shoves his sweatpants down his thighs.
Your eyes shift to his cock instantly, and you marvel at how thick and long he is…and the fact that he was already starting to get hard again.
“To even the field,” he winks at you as he slips beneath the covers and pulls you into his side, wrapping his arm around you before dimming down the lights.
You sit in silence for what feels like hours, drawing patterns on his beautiful, bronze chest while he rubs your shoulder and back to soothe your body. It’s only after a while that Rex finally breaks the quiet air of the room and looks down at you, waiting until you meet his eyes before he finally tells you what he’s wanted to say for so long.
“I would rather die than let anything happen to you, ner cyare. You know that right?” He says, matter-of-factly, and you sense a sliver of anxiety fill his otherwise calm aura for a brief moment before it evaporates into thin air.
“I know darling, and you know by now that the feeling is mutual.” It’s not what he wants to hear, that you are sure of, but you can’t find it in yourself to lie to him, wanting him to know that you care for him just as much as he cares for you.
“I guess both of us are going to be stubborn about this.” He shakes his head and leans over to kiss your forehead before resting back against the pillow once more.
“You bet your sweet ass.” You retort immediately, yelping in shock when he pinches your shoulder and sends you closer into his chest.
“You haven’t even seen my ass, sweetheart.” He snorts at your comeback, glancing down at you for a moment before shutting his eyes and enjoying the feeling of having you so willing and relaxed in his arms.
“Oh, believe me Captain, I have seen your ass…and I fucking love it.”

You had tried to think positively but there was still a lingering darkness in your mind. If it wasn’t for your friends you’d be in a pit. You felt confused and lost, not knowing what the future would bring. It scared you. Was this the right decision or was it hurting you more, you didn’t know anymore…
“Hey you ok?” Rex would ask you. The sweet and caring tone carried through his voice. A solemn smile crossed your mouth, “yeah I’m fine.” This went on for a week and Rex was getting worried about you. Because you didn’t come to him he came to you instead.
There was a knock at the door. You panicked trying to keep yourself together. “It’s me…Rex,” there was an uncertainty to his words but he was here regardless. You walked over, opening the door slowly. “Hey Rex,” your eyes were a little puffy and your voice was nasally. “Uh can I come in?” You nodded, opening the door fully and shut it when he was inside your home.
“We have to talk…” Rex spoke as he shifted slightly uncomfortably. “Yeah what do you need?” You tried to play it cool but you subconsciously made yourself smaller, hunching your shoulders and fidgeting. “You seem down lately and I’m worried about you,” the words fell from his lips with an urgency you understood. “Thanks,” you held your tongue worried you'd cry if you continued.
“So what’s happening with you?” Rex stepped a little closer trying not to scare you. You couldn’t look at him. He stepped a little closer…
“Please let me help you, what’s wrong?” Rex spoke softly, probably the softest you’ve ever heard him talk. It surprised you and you let out a deep breath, “ok.” Rex smiled gently, all you could see were his armored feet. “I feel like I’ve made a mistake, but I also know it’s to better me.” Rex nodded as you spoke, you lifted your head a little now seeing his painted chest plate.
“I’m confused, I don’t know what to do Rex.” You finally met his eyes. His eyebrows softened seeing your near crying face. “Oh come here,” he took you into a bear hug. That’s when the tears fell, you silently sobbed into his armor. “It’ll be ok, you’re one of the strongest people I’ve ever met,” his hand patted your head as you continued to cry into him.
“Whatever’s making you feel this way, it will pass. Some things just take time.” You held him tightly and he reciprocated. You could feel the heat through his plastoid plates, being this close to him…it was something you’ve never experienced. You felt safe. “Feelings are complicated and it’s worse when you don’t really understand what you’re feeling. I’ll be here whenever you need me ok?” You nodded your head in confirmation. “Let me be your rock, while the current tries to pull you away. You don’t have to do this alone, we can do it together. Things will pass and it will start to make sense.”
Rex pulled you away from him, wiping your tears and he held your shoulders. “Doing the right thing isn’t easy. Especially if it’s for you. You are a lot tougher than you think and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.” You were still crying but he wiped every one of your tears. “Repeat after me, I am strong and I can make it through this.” You repeated after Rex and although you still felt the weight on your shoulders, you knew you weren’t carrying it alone anymore. “Thank you Rex,” you hugged him tightly again. He chuckled, “as long as you’re ok so am I.” A smile teased at your lips hearing him laugh.
“Heck I’ll get all the other guys here too. You know they love you to death right?” You released your grip on him. “Yeah I know…” Rex ruffled your hair, “and so do I.”
Rex stayed by your side until he knew you were ok. Whatever you wanted, he’d give it to you. He’d give you the whole galaxy, all you’d have to do is ask. He’d always be the first to your side and that would never change.

my masterlist
Being assistant medic to the 501st meant you had a lot of dirt on a lot of troopers. The things these men were capable of coming out with when they were under even the lightest of meds never ceased to amaze you. It was like they lost their filter (not that the had much of one to begin with) and would just blurt out whatever came to their mind without a second thought.
You still remember when Tup had come to after being unconscious and admitted in a fit of giggles that you were “The prettiest girl he’d ever met”
Or that one time you’d had to stay overnight with Hardcase in the med bay after giving him some pretty strong pain meds. You’d spent your whole shift listening to him babble on about some girl who was apparently the love of his life and the one thing he couldn't live without. Later on when you were relaying the story to Kix you found out that he wasn’t talking about a girl at all, rather about his favourite DC-17 blaster that he insisted on carrying with him everywhere.
Anyway, the point was that you were used to having all these weird and random things thrown at you by the clones, so much so that you actually found yourself looking forward to hear what they were going to come out with this time. You were prepared for anything these men would throw at you. Or so you thought.
—
You were currently caring for Fives. He’d got knocked out by a detonator during the last mission, so as soon as you saw him start to open his eyes you rushed over to his side.
“Hey there trooper, how’re you feeling?”
He frowned up at you confused “Am I dead? Is this heaven?”
“Nope sorry Fives. You’re still very much alive” You chuckled “Just got a bit knocked up is all, but I’ll have you right in no time”
He groaned as he started to sit up “Are you sure? Could’ve sworn I was dead. You look like an angel right now”
Gently pressing on his shoulder you tried to get him to lay back down. He huffed but complied, letting you push him back and watching as you dipped a cloth in cold water, gently dabbing it on the gash that went from his temple to his jaw.
You talked to him as you worked, a gentle smile on your face “Trust you to almost die and then the first thing you do when you wake up is flirt with your medic. ”
“Oh no no. I wouldn’t dare flirt with the Captains' favorite medic”
He hissed when you pressed a little too hard on his wound. “Ow, what the hell-?
“What did you just say?”
He scowled up at you “I said ow-”
You shook your head at him “No no, before that. What did you say about Rex?”
“About you being his favourite medic?” he said frowning at you confused when you nodded in response
“Yeah, that”
“I thought it was obvious”
Now it was your turn to frown at him “What’s obvious?”
He lets out an incredulous laugh at your obliviousness, only making you more impatient “Fives, you better tell me what the hell you're talking about?”
“Oh come on, everybody knows the captains got a thing for the pretty little medic”
You freeze, eyes quickly dropping back to the cloth in your hand. “Don’t be ridiculous Fives” you mutter, pointedly going back to cleaning his wound.
He grabs your wrist to stop you, a disbelieving look on his face “Wait- Do you really not know?”
“Don’t mess with me, Fives.” you shake you hand free from his grasp “It’s not funny”
He looks taken aback by the coldness in your voice before a look of realisation crosses over his face. “You like him…” he whispers as if it’s the biggest secret in the galaxy
You blush slightly “No I don’t, I just- well I just-” you clear your throat, avoiding his eyes “I just respect him that's all.”
Fives lets out a chuckle “Bullshit. You like him!"
Shushing him quickly, you glance around at the other troopers in the med bay “Not so loud for kriff sake” you whisper at him harshly. This only makes him smile wider, pointing at your face and exclaiming loudly
“You do! You like Rex!”
You grab his finger angrily, shoving it back down “Ok fine I do. Now can you please shut up before the whole GAR finds out"
He smirks but settles down anyway "I knew it"
You scoffed, picking the cloth back up and wetting it again "Sure you did Fives"
"Did too" he replies smugly. You smile, shaking your head and getting back to work cleaning up his cut. After a few moments silence he breaks it again
"He likes you back y'know"
"Mhm I'm sure he does"
He sits up indignantly "It's true!"
"Fives…" you warn quietly
"I'm serious. He talks about you all the time when he's drunk. And he stares at you so often that it's actually kinda embarrassing"
You pulled back, staring into his eyes and searching for any hint that he's messing with you but were surprised to see him completely serious. A very rare sight for Fives.
Swallowing nervously you take in a shaky breath "Does he really like me?"
"Mhm he sure does. Tries to pretend he doesn't but we all know Rex can't keep a secret to save his life"
That gets a laugh out of you because it's so true. It's actually one of the things you love about Rex. The way he stutters and blushes anytime he tries to tell even the smallest of lies is something you find insanely cute and endearing.
You’d liked him for a long time, and who could blame you? This was Rex we were talking about. Handsome blond Captain Rex.
There was no chance of anything happening between you two. You’d accepted that and were content on just admiring him from a distance, occasionally sharing a few conversations, a couple glances from across the room. Never anything more.
But what Fives had just said lit a small flicker of hope in you. Hope was bad, very bad. Hope meant that you couldn't keep ignoring your little crush and pretending it didn't exist.
Hope meant you actually stood a chance.
You shook your head, clearing your thoughts before you could get too carried away in your fantasy.
"It doesn't really matter, it's not like anything could happen between us anyway"
Fives gaze snapped to you "What are you talking about? You two would be so good together"
"You know that's not what I'm talking about." you rolled your eyes at him
"Then what are you talking about?"
" I'm talking about what would happen if someone found out. Rex would be court-martialed Fives, you know what that means right?"
Fives open his mouth to answer you but you cut him off before he had a chance "This is his whole life Fives, I can't expect him to risk everything for me like that."
There was a moment's silence before Fives softly replied "Maybe he'd think you're worth the risk"
—
It had been a couple rotations since your interaction with Fives, and you had been trying desperately to avoid both him and the Captain, so far succeeding in both.
But as if he insisted on not leaving you alone, Fives voice kept echoing in your head. Repeating the same sentences over and over. Even though you tried to ignore it, it kept coming back and haunting you.
"Everybody knows the captains got a thing for the pretty little medic"
As if your thoughts had summoned him, the very same handsome captain you'd just been thinking about strolled through the mess hall door. His eyes doing a quick sweep of the room, giving you a double take upon seeing you and decidedly walking over to your table.
You quickly ducked your head down, panic beginning to rise in your chest. What if Fives had spoken to him? What if he'd told him about you silly little crush? What if-
Rex's shadow looming over you made you look up, eyes instantly locking with his and taking your breath away. Stars, those eyes.
"He stares at you so often that it's actually kinda embarrassing”
"Hey" his voice shook you from your thoughts "Haven't seen you around much lately"
"Yeah…" you chuckled nervously, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear " Um Kix has been keeping me pretty busy the last couple days"
"Oh." He slipped into the seat across from you "Well if he's working you extra y'know I can always stop by and have a chat with him."
"No no" you shake your head quickly "It's fine. Hard work’s what I sign up for after all"
Rex looks at you doubtfully, taking in your tired eyes and dark circles "Are you sure? You look pretty tired"
"I'm fine Rex." You smiled reassuringly "Promise"
"Okay, if you say so… Y'know I'm actually kinda relieved. Thought you'd been avoiding me or something" he chuckled, hand rubbing the back of his neck.
You stiffened and quickly looked back down at the table. His smile flattered. "But you haven't… right?"
Getting ready to answer you took in a shaky breath " Um…" You stalled trying desperately to come up with some excuse but his worried gaze was making it hard to think of anything
Suddenly you're comm chimed, breaking the tension and making you both jump. You stood up quickly "Sorry Rex, I've gotta go. Duty calls"
He looked taken aback as you hurried towards the door.
"We'll catch up some other time" you said over your shoulder. You heard his voice calling your name, only prompting you to walk faster.
Making it out into the corridor you heard your name again, this time louder. The med bay was just around the corner, if you could just make it there before he caught you, you would be fine
Breaking into a soft jog, you panicked when you heard his own heavy footsteps matching your pace. They were much too close for your liking.
The door to the med bay was just a handful of strides away now. You could see it.. C'mon almost there, almost there…
You almost screamed when you felt a hand grab you wrist, halting you and pulling you around to face him.
“He talks about you all the time when he's drunk”
Rex must've seen the panicked look on your face because he quickly released your wrist and took a step back.
"Hey, hey what's going on? Did I do something wrong?" He was slightly out of breath from running after you
"No no of course not" you shook your head before adding quietly "I don't think you could ever do anything wrong"
"Then why are you running away from me meshla?"
The pet name made your stomach flip, taking in a sharp breath and hesitating from a beat before replying
"It's nothing Rex, don't worry"
"Of course I'm gonna worry," he scoffed. "Something is obviously bothering you."
When you didn't reply he sighed and gently took one of your hands in his, holding it loosely
"I just wanna know what I've done so I can fix it," he whispered. Looking up and seeing the hurt in his eyes brought tears to your own.
"He likes you back y'know"
"It's just… something Fives said the other day" you said, keeping your gaze down to hide your embarrassingly watery eyes.
But he saw them anyway, jaw clenching and a hand tightening it's hold on your own "What did he say to you?" he growled protectively "Because if he said something out of line-"
"No no it wasn't anything like that" you answered quickly. A look of relief passed over his face
"Good. But it still something that obviously upset you"
You swallowed nervously before responding "It was about you actually"
Rex stiffened "Me?"
“Tries to pretend he doesn't but we all know Rex can't keep a secret to save his life"
"Yeah…"
"Well what- what about me?"
" He was suggesting that maybe- that you might-"
Rex could see you were struggling to say whatever it was you needed to say so he took a step closer, leaning in towards you "Hey it's ok, you can tell me."
"Maybe he'd think you're worth the risk"
Squeezing your eyes shut, you somehow mustered up a tiny ounce of courage, letting it all out in a rush "He said that you had a crush on me"
Keeping your eyes shut, you heard Rex's breath hitch and felt his hands tighten their hold on your own. After a few moments silence you slowly peeked your eyes open, heart beating fast as you took in the man in front of you.
He looked like he'd seen a ghost. "Well… I- I don't really know what to say…"
Nodding you tried to hide your disappointment by looking down at your feet. Of course he didn't like you, how could you ever think he did
You bit your lip as tears began brimming in your eyes How could you be so fucking stupid and start to let yourself believe that Captain Rex could possibly like you, a lowly medic.
"It's ok" you whispered, blurry eyes focusing on the ships shiny floor "Don't worry I knew Fives was just messing with me"
That really broke Rex out of his trance " What do you mean?"
"I mean of course you don't actually like me, why would you?" You replied, laughing sadly.
Rex frowned, genuinely confused "What are you talking about?"
When you didn't answer Rex called your name softly, making you look up at him, his breath hitching when he saw your teary eyes
"Oh meshla come 'ere" he pulled you into his arms, your head nuzzling into his neck and his hands finding their home around your waist.
"Listen to me carefully" he whispered into your hair "don't you ever, ever say that again."
You smiled into his neck but he wasn't finished "Of course I like you meshla, have since the moment i met you. How could I not love you when you're so fucking perfect?"
He pulled back and you immediately looked down shyly, avoiding his gaze. Calling your name, he gently lifted your chin with the crook of his finger, making you look him in the eyes
"I want to be able to call you mine"
You could feel you carefully built walls slowly falling down at his confession. Every second you spent this close to Rex another piece of them crumbling.
"But… what if someone finds out Rex. What then? How much are you willing to risk for this?"
He lent in impossibly closer, foreheads touching and lips brushing against yours as he spoke
"For you? Everything"
The last stone in your wall tumbling down, you closed the gap between you, enclosing your lips with his. He sighed into your mouth kissing you back hard, months of bottled up feelings pouring into this one single kiss.
Your hands travelled over his chest, one sneaking up behind his neck and into his short buzzed hair. He growled appreciatively, his own hands already grabbing your waist and pulling you into him, clutching onto you like a man drowning.
Breathless you both pulled back just far enough to catch your breath. He chuckled, nuzzling his nose into yours as you smiled softly.
"I love you Rex"
Your confession lingered in the limited air between you, his eyes flickering down to your lips before he gave them a gentle peck
