French startup Captain Train acquired by UK competitor for around $180 million.

U.K.-based ticket service for railway and long-distance bus journeys Trainline, originally a spinoff from the Virgin Group, then was acquired in January 2015 by KKR for around $671 million, has now acquired it’s french competitor Captain train for a sum close to $180 million.

Captain Train have raised around $10 million from Index Ventures, Alven Capital, CM-CIC Capital Privé and TheFamily, in addition to prominent business angels, like Xavier Niel and Pierre Bonelli.

Captain Train currently has 1.4 million registered users and sells 5,000 tickets daily. In 2015, Captain Train processed $80 million in train ticket transactions. Trainline, has 4.7 million active customers. And processed $2.3 billion ticket transactions annually.
