Tommy knows that Noh-Varr is that special kind of pissed – the kind where he rips tanks apart with his bare hands and demolishes entire squadrons of elite troops completely on his own – before he even opens his mouth.
“You’re bleeding. Why are you bleeding?” he demands and there’s that hard, unyielding edge to his voice that tells Tommy he’s going to get an answer, whether the speedster wants to give him one or not. Out of the corner of his eye, Tommy sees Kate slink away from the two of them, moving towards where Teddy’s fussing over Billy in a slightly less painful way; Noh’s grip on his arms had hurt to start with but it’s tightening the longer Tommy holds off on answering him.
“It’s nothing,” and oh boy, does he ever regret those words before they’re even even out of his mouth, “You’re hurting me, Noh!” he snaps and the Kree immediately steps away, arms dropping to his sides, the anger in his eyes turning to shame so suddenly that it jars Tommy to see it. Tommy steps with him though and slings his arms loosely around Noh’s neck, face tipped up towards him. “Dummy,” he mutters, “I’m fine. You were watching.”
“…I was,” Noh concedes and his touch is gentle, careful, as he takes Tommy’s face in his hands and turns his head so he can get a better look at the gash on his cheek that’s still sluggishly oozing blood. Tommy’s already had Kate check it out, it isn’t too deep, won’t scar. “I would have stepped in sooner but I was–”
“Busy getting shot at, yeah, I saw.” He ignores the twinge of protective rage that flares in his chest despite the fact that the battle’s already won, that Noh’s safe. “You aren’t the only one who worries.”
“I should be the only one that has to.”
Tommy snorts at that, ducks his head to avoid laughing outright. “You’re a jackass,” he tells Noh matter-of-factly, “Lucky I like you anyway.”
Noh opens his mouth to say something, and it’s going to be something disgustingly sappy, Tommy knows it is, but Kate interrupts him, “Hey! You two done staring soulfully into each other’s eyes yet? We’ve got a job to do, boys!”
Tommy’s grin hurts his cheek but it’s worth it to see Noh’s answering smile, as small as it is. “You heard the woman, spaceman. We’ve got a job to do.”
