Remains of the pithead at Lake George Mine,
Captains Flat
2019: The Lake George Mine, from 1892 till its closure in 1962, produced lead, silver, zinc and, to a lesser extent, copper and gold. It was one of Australia’s most prolific base metal mines. Its ore bodies were found within a tight narrow north-trending graben comprising Middle to Upper Silurian felsic pyroclastics, volcanogenic sediments and shales.
