With each passing day, Verlane could sense changes in Rayne. They stuck together, hid and wandered with purpose, both trying to find their old lives. Though they both knew such things were dead in the water. There was no going back to their former existences. Most of the world would not be going back either, least not for many decades. 

Verlane sniffed the air as Rayne’s scent altered once again. Her infection was growing and encompassing her further, but it hadn’t yet been able to rob her of her mind. There was still a Rayne to speak with and be near. Half a mile up the street was a hospital. Verlane thought for a while, turning to her friend. It had been so nice feeling a little normal again, and she didn’t want to loose that point of focus. She didn’t want to see someone be lost to a virus; not again.

“It might have medicine to slow what you have....or cure it. We could check...”

Dark, humid and dead...Simple words to describe a place in which one can experience so many feelings and no one of them was good.

A less sensitive person would only see that catacomb as a bad place to be, but not for her, not for Anaís. The steps which touched the stone floors weren’t the only hearable sounds unfortunately, Anaís could hear faint whispers coming from the walls, accompanied by the drops of water falling from the small stalactites. Yet she keeps going, deeper and deeper into the void of which she knew nothing.
