I love One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams Garcia and Front Desk by Kelly Yang. Kaylee would be upset if I didn't mention The Stars Beneath Our Feet by David Barklay More and Internment by Samira Ahmed.

(I thought Internment was a bit old for a 12 year old, but Kaylee's school librarian recommended it to them last year when they were still 12 and it's been their favorite ever since! Shows what I know.)

The Farmer and the Cat

Once upon a time, in a kingdom far away and a time long ago, there lived a beautiful, Doctor Who-obsessed princess named Abbey. Although Princess Abbey was loved throughout the land for her intense love for Mariana's Trench (the country was known as Mariana's Trenchopia, after all) she was still lonely. She tried everything to cure her loneliness: she ate a lot of chocolate, she went to an all-girls school; hell, she even made a Tumblr account. However, nothing helped. Eventually, Princess Abbey decided her only option for finding her one true love was through the magic of match.com. She searched and searched through her options for the one guy who wasn't a total creeper, until one day, she found a man by the name of Orlando Bloom. He told Princess Abbey about the real magic that helps people find their true loves, and he emailed her the link for it. Somehow, a lot of illogical, technical, Doctor Who-related nonsense went down during the ritual, and she ended up summoning Satan instead. Satan appeared to her in the form of Jennifer Lawrence and asked Princess Abbey what she wanted. Princess Abbey told JLaw about her overwhelming loneliness, and JLaw offered to make a deal with her. Princess Abbey agreed, and upon shaking JLaw's hand, was immediately turned into a cat. JLaw laughed, which made Princess Abbey hiss at her. After explaining her extreme dislike for mortals and the rules of the transformation (Princess Abbey would only become human again if she kissed her one true love before sunset on Sexual Wednesday [which was in 3 days]),JLaw vanished. Princess Abbey wandered the countryside of her kingdom for hours and hours until she came upon a lowly farmer boy who was out fishing. The farmer-boy's name was Alex, and he loved cats. Princess Abbey tried to steal a fish from him, but only succeeded in getting his attention. He gave her a fish anyway and took her in. The following day, Alex discovered Princess Abbey could talk when she accidentally called him a peasant (especially since he didn't have a Tumblr back then). She told him who she was and what she had to do to be a human again. Alex then decided to try and help her, and he kissed that kitty full on the mouth. Unfortunately, he turned into a cat too. On the other hand, they both fell in love from the kiss and traveled the countryside for the last day. When they didn't change back on Sexual Wednesday, they just deciDed to have sex instead. They eventually found a crazy old cat lady who took them in, and they lived happily ever after as lazy house cats. The End.
