Just curious about your banksy post because it just popped up on my dash. Did he do something bad recently? From what I've seen of his work it's all pretty neat but I just wanted to educate myself of he's problematic.
I reblogged a post awhile ago that explains it much better than I’m about to but I can’t find it right now, so basically:
he’s doing the same thing street artists of color have been doing for decades but getting more recognition because he’s white
doesn’t respect rules of territory that actual street artists follow, considers himself above the rest of the scene
comes into communities that aren’t his (poorer communities mostly occupied by people of color) and basically creates tourist attractions that contribute to gentrification
uses stencils, which is considered a pretty big nono in the street art community
"feminism is a weapon, weapons are for war. make love not war" lmao shut up
used the n word in an interview to “”“reclaim”“” it
basically just a pretentious white dude with an over-inflated sense of self importance and no sense of self awareness that think’s he’s a huge Radical because he has moderately liberal political views
