PLEASE please please do not assume immediately that elsanna as an incest ship means it's a codependent relationship. It's not even close to being codependency. I keep seeing this with so many incest ships and it's driving me out of my mind because that's NOT what codependency is D: elsanna isn't an "unhealthy" ship, and codependency isn't a term to be tossed around as casually as so many people tend to do. this isn't hate, it's just me trying to put this out there so people just understand more.

while I do agree that elsanna doesn’t need to be a codependent relationship, I tend to read it that way in some situations because of the fact that both girls developed a huge dependence on the other one by being locked away from each other for 13 years.
Canonically wise, Elsa was really the only one to do that (Anna may have had it at first, but she seemed pretty ready to leave with Hans tbh) and even then she was willing to send Anna away, so your mileage may vary of course. But in canon the girls aren’t romantically in love with each other either, and are willing to open up their options to the world, unlike in most fics.
Still, in many fics there is an borderline co-dependency between the two that brings them together, that they just can’t live without the other one, and will do dangerously stupid things for the other one. And to honest, in every fic I’ve created about them the same thing happens (but that’s cause I like dark stuff). It creates more angst and frankly makes it easier to bring them together. That doesn’t mean it’s full blown co-dependency, or that it makes the relationship unhealthy. But sometimes it does. We’re not talking fluff fics here, we’re talking the serious dark angsty ones.
Incest pairings don’t have to be co-dependent, but it does work well with them because of their separation anxiety, even though it doesn’t need to be automatically assumed.
