do you have to trim their nails? i know most pets you have to trim their nails/claws. ive heard that sometimes birds need their beaks trimmed from the vet, but do they need their nails trimmed too?

Bird beaks should be kept naturally trimmed by toys, if they’re having to go in to the vet to have it trimmed there’s likely something wrong either with the bird’s health or there’s a lack of toys.  There are a few species which are prone to overgrown beak problems who may require a vet to trim them but a healthy, average bird will be keeping it’s beak trim simply by chewing on toys.  Nails do need to be trimmed, allowing them to get too long can result in scale deformities, infections, bumblefoot, arthritis, and other health issues.  Using natural wood perches and appropriate pedi-perches helps to keep the nails softer but does not replace nail trimming.
