ahhh thanks for tagging me captalnrogers, i appreciate it! i gotta say i agree with you on the costuming front. right down to who you pointed out as liking (robin and zatanna's costumes that is). i've thought before that i might want to cosplay both of them because i like them so much. also who came up with the idea of underwear outside of pants seriously what

1. Do you like poetry and if so a favorite section from or full poem? If not a song lyric you really like?
i do like poetry, though in a rather passive way. i don't go out of my way to read more but i like what i've read, generally. aside from song lyrics, i always liked maya angelou's "caged bird" poem, and had it printed out and taped to my wall for a while through middle school and early high school. i just really like all of it but the main lines are "the caged bird sings/with a fearful trill/of things unknown/but longed for still/and his tune is heard/on the distant hill/for the caged bird/sings of freedom" and it's just really great how the rhythm of the poem makes it sound like a singing bird, just by reading it.
2. A book or movie or tv show for which you don’t participate in fandom for but really like?
haha i pretty much participate in the fandoms for most things i like, inasmuch as i can at least. the things that i don't participate in the fandom for are mostly things that don't have a fandom, or don't have a sizable fandom. i'm really into the tamora pierce books - don't ask which ones because i pretty much love all of her series - but there's not a huge fandom and what does exist i generally don't take part in. same thing for several other books like that. i really love the artemis fowl books but i don't do too horribly much with them because the fandom for them isn't huge. the young wizards books also count here.
there are at least a few manga that i've read some of and don't participate in fandom, at least a few of which are on purpose. i've read several of the black butler manga but i've never considered myself a part of the fandom, for a reason. that said, i have liked what i read.
and finally, several cartoons that i love also count here. at least a few don't really have fandoms or really large ones at least, but a notable one is danny phantom. dp actually has a fandom but i've never really been that into the fandom side. that, i can assume, comes at least partially from the fact that i don't really have any ships for the show, which is generally what will push me into a fandom.
3. What is the first mind-blowing realization you remember?
oh uh. this is kinda depressing but i remember when i was really little and had a conversation with my dad about people dying. i was so young that i hadn't realized that people die - stop existing. i remember that i couldn't quite understand why people had to, but i don't remember what the context was of this realization of our vulnerability. or even how young i was when it happened, only that i must have been very young because the memory is very fuzzy.
on another note, not the first realization i had but in 8th grade i had the double whammy of realizing that i wasn't straight/didn't believe in god. the latter was actually way harder to get over than the former, which i pretty much realized, wondered over for a bit and then moved on with.
4. Do you prefer having physical media even if streaming content is available to you or is digital distribution preferable to you?
generally, yes i would much prefer it. the mountains of manga that i have should say everything about that. it was much easier to read it online but still i wanted to own the physical copies. i'm realizing that i have the same issue with american comics now, too, and i've always had a problem with digital books for that very reason. i like to have a copy of things i like, not the digital version.
5. What’s something you aspire to learn to do or achieve?
in a very general sense, learning languages is something i would like to do more of and do better. i took spanish through middle and high school and while i have a passable ability to read and understand it when spoken to me, i've never excelled at speaking it to other people. i can write it much better than i can speak it. now going into college i'm starting out learning arabic, which should be worlds more difficult than spanish but i really think i want to push myself to do it well. i want to be someone who is fluent in multiple languages.
6. I think I asked the inverse of this another time doing this, so: would you want to be a superhero even if it meant knowing that you lived in an even less stable and secure world for the people who weren’t in your shoes? (You know, assuming there were at least passable odds you could make it better for periods of time—like to the extent that you’re not evil for saying yes if you say yes.)
let's be real here and say that comic book worlds aren't that much more inherently evil, it's just that with added abilities more people can take advantage of others. that said, i don't feel shame in saying that yeah, i'd want to be a superhero. that way i would know, personally, that i was making a difference. the world would be more troubled dealing with people who have more than just human abilitied, but wouldn't it be amazing to have that? even if we end up going the whole xmen/muties are evil route, i still think it'd be fuckin cool. and maybe that's the kid in me saying it. wishing upon the world that there be even more reason for strife than before just so that i could be a hero. but whatever, i'm a kid. and being a superhero would help me, as well as whoever i ended up helping out.
(that was probably one of my more rambly answers but tldr; yes, even if that's kinda awful of me to say)
7. Do you (think you would) enjoy “tourist traps” or do you prefer to engage in genuine local culture if you go anywhere?
genuine local culture x500
i don't have a ton of experiences with places that have "local culture" for me to immerse myself in, but i have a knowledge of tourist traps, and boy howdy do i hate them. one of my least favorite places i have ever been is gatlinburg, which is one of the most god awful places i have ever been. it's like, everything that's awful about tennessee wrapped up with a side of heart stoppingly bad breakfast. and that's at least partially because i hate the reminder of how frickin awful my home state is but gatlinburg is just fricken awful. other tourist traps i've been to include myrtle beach (more times than i can count) and niagara falls (oddly enough, the canadian side is like the gatlinburg of canada, while the us side is all parks and stuff.)
the only time i've been outside of the us was when i went to canada (wow big jump right) and by far my favorite part of the trip was toronto, and not the niagara falls portion of the trip. so yeah, can't say i know a ton about being in places with "local culture" but man do i dislike tourist traps
8. Do you recall having any weird dreams or unregulated trains of thought lately?
most of my dreams recently have made complete sense to me, at least in that i understand why i'm having them, not that they aren't weird. the majority currently either have to do with college or with me dating/not dating people. which makes sense because i'm going to start my freshman year of college soon and i guess i'm lonely? recently my thoughts have been fairly straightforward.
9. What’s your favorite relationship dynamic?
oh gosh this is a good question but i could probably answer it for a while. generally, they tend to be fluffy more so than anything else (a few outliers aside). but alright, i like:
-best friends who realize they want a different type of relationship and flounder about because "but i don't wanna mess up what we have going" (ex: bluepulse, birdflash, originshipping, sirius/remus, kinda johnlock)
-mildly/very antagonistic relationship that grows into respect, friendship and/or romance (ex: reboot spacehusbands, superhusbands, tiger/bunny, superbat, kyosaya, artemis/holly, aziraphale/crowley, kinda newt/hermann)
-emotionally cold character with a more openly emotional/energetic character (ex: spacehusbands, holix, haruhi/tamaki, sarek/amanda, superbat, chase/jack)
and for friendships specifically, idk how to put what i like. i really enjoy it when they're just obviously really wanting to look out for each other. the oliver/diggle/felicity friendship is amazing (with emphasis also placed on diggle and felicity's friendship for really looking after each other) as well as the amazing kirk/spock/bones friendship. i also love it when there are large groups of people all obviously friends with each other - like the main crew of the enterprise, the heroes on tiger and bunny, most superhero teams., etc.
i love food, so probably some sort of food. i really love the smell of my mom's chili, and the smell of indian food is also really great. not really something i've thought over and can really choose, though.
11. When you watch a tv show or movie, do you feel engaged and involved in the action or do you feel that you are an outside observer consistently?
likely it depends, but more often i find myself more engaged. in general, with tv, if things are tense i will act as if i can interact with them and comment or talk to them. i don't know if that's quite what this question is asking though.
and now i suppose i'm supposed to come up with questions and tag people but i don't know if i really wanna make new questions. and i don't want to tag people in case they don't wanna feel pressured to do it. but let's just say if we're mutuals and you've read all the way to here, you have effectively been tagged by whatever force made you read all the way to the end. you can answer the same questions i was asked because i'm a lazy ass.
