Jim wasn’t sure how it had come to this. The Enterprise had been attempting to explore and negotiate with a new planet - upon first glance there were very few life forms on the surface. But as the landing party explored they *did* find a small group of natives. At first, they were intimidated by the crew. But later on, they warmed up to them.
All in all. Things had been going quite well. Until Jim and Vivienne managed to get separated from the rest of the landing party when traveling on foot through a ridiculously Jungle like area.
And if that wasn’t bad enough?
Jim had lost his footing, a wrong step had lead to him falling into a rather large pit. Unfortunately for Vivienne, she was the only thing near by for him to grab onto, meaning they both hit the dirt a few meters down.
“I don’t get it.” Jim growled unhappily as he smacked at his comm, the thing had been malfunctioning, leaving them with no way to call for help. “Why is there even a big ass pit in the middle of the jungle?” He asked the Ensign, anger laced in his tone. He wasn’t upset at her of course. Just *annoyed* in general. If anyone were to be upset, it would be her. Considering he had literally pulled her into this. He groaned in frustration and threw the small device onto the ground. His left ankle throbbed in protest as he stomped around the perimeter. He had landed funny on the way down, resulting in a likely sprained ankle and yet *another* ripped shirt.
“Could be a trap, but I don’t think it was meant for us,” said Vivienne, pushing herself up to her knees with a hand on her side, letting out a groan as she willed herself to her feet. Anthropology was definitely a class she’d slept through, and now more than ever she was kicking herself for her disinterest in the subject. It could have come in handy, especially now.
Once at her feet, Viv felt her heart drop at the sound of the piece of her comm falling out of her satchel. Great, so not only did no one know where they were, they had no way of getting the message across. And, while Jim had pulled them into the pit, he’d followed at her behest. While they were with the rest of the landing party, the Systems ensign thought she saw someone watching them from the forest. And, like a ditz in a slasher, opted to go see what it was. The Captain was just doing his job, ensuring the safety of his crew members when he followed her.
Staring up at the chasm, a dim idea formed in Viv’s mind, only without taking whatever injuries she and the Captain had sustained into account. “Hey. Do you think you could give me a boost? An extra couple meters, maybe I can climb outta here. If the soil isn’t too loose, might be able to pull you out, too.”

Jim was rarely off the Enterprise these days, and it really figured that the first day he set foot on Starfleet property for months, everything would go wrong. The day started poorly, he hadn’t slept well at all as he was unused to being on solid ground. Then there was this.
The elevator stopped. He had been on his way to a meeting that remained a mystery. For all he knew he was in trouble which wasn’t surprising when it came to Jim Kirk. But when the usually smoothly running elevator made an earsplitting sound and stuttered to a stop. Jim let a long out a long sigh.
Not only had it stopped, but he was also with another, rather unfamiliar person. Obviously she was a member of Starfleet. But Jim couldn’t place her.
“Seems that way.” He answered with little patience. Jim was usually quite amiable, but he wasn’t in the best of moods at this particular moment. He reached forward for the com, pressing helplessly at the unresponsive device. “I’m sure they’ll fix it quickly.” He consoled quietly. “Jim Kirk, by the way.” He introduced with a trace of a smile directed towards his unfortunate companion.
“I wouldn’t be so sure, the technicians here ain’t exactly tact, all due respect...” said Vivienne, tugging her PADD out as her mouth tugged into a tight line. She’d been held at the New Orleans Starfleet base for months waiting for assignment, piddling around with odd jobs fitting into her skill set. Some engineering, mostly work in systems. This meeting was supposedly regarding her assignment to an active ship, but it only felt right that the day she’d been waiting for, there would be some act of God to get in the way.
This man didn’t exactly strike her as a local, so she couldn’t particularly fault him for his optimism. She, however, had been here long enough and known their technicians long enough to know they would be otherwise preoccupied. Whatever she could take into her own hands, she ought to. What exactly she could, that was still to be determined.
“Pleasure, Vivienne LeBeau,” she said, giving him a glance and small grin before getting back to the screen, thin fingers tapping along as she tried to find a solution.
Looking for some Fics
I have a few specific fanfics I'm looking for... There is one where the Enterprise becomes sentient after flying through an anomaly in space; she falls in love with Jim, and ends up sacrificing herself for the crew. The fic is mainly from Spock's point of view, I believe. At the beginning, Enterprise is practicing her communication by using Spock's telepathy to trespass in people's dreams and memories, and put together a picture/message to inform Spock of what is happening. Enterprise becomes jealous of Kirk's female conquests... There is at least one incident where she causes the door to stick when Kirk tries to walk through it. Anyway, if someone could link me this, that'd be great. :) It's a Spirk, but I don't recall if it's AoS, TOS, or a mix. I think it has the Narada in it, though. Oh, there's also a bit where Kirk and Spock are talking and Kirk says that loving is often the same as knowing. Another fic I'm sort of searching for was from a reclist.... Which is shut down. It's a McKirk, and it involves Kirk sleeping in Bones' bed a lot. With women. When Bones is out. Oops. Anyway, it's very cute and hot, and involves Cuddly!McCoy, Jealous!Jim (I think?) And a lot of unrequited pining. Unf, it's good! Almost as good as Switch by ceres_libera. :D I really like fics like Leave No Soul Behind, Atlas, and Switch. I also have several others which I will probably rec' soon. Wait for it! And I also like The Lotus Eaters. Very good. They're all on ao3! :D
