Best Songs from 2017
DSTRCT6
Best Songs from 2017 by Alan
So we have finally reached the end of 2017 and I myself have listened to quite a few songs throughout the year. This is my personal list of songs that I felt were the best and made a little playlist. I know some of these songs are part of an album that have not been released yet but the single themselves were technically released this year and thoroughly enjoyed. Also for this list you might not see all the radio hit favorites and I’ve limited to one song from one particular Artist/Band. Again this is my own personal list and I’m hoping the rest of the staff of DSTRCT6 can make their own list of sweet tunes that they enjoyed for 2017. Let us know what your faves of 2017 were.
I hope you guys have fun and enjoy! Let us know what you guys think.

Talk About’s wonky pop vivacity is the perfect summer treat that leaves us ready to strut with aplomb down a beach as the sun sets. The perky grooving, whimsically charming funk pop and indie dance jam comes from Austin duo CAPYAC, who’ve also just shared a music video for the cheeky, flirty gem. A copious dose of frisky future funk dresses up this suave tune. Talk About is a taste from CAPYAC’s debut full length, which you can support on Kickstarter, here. There’s no doubt CAPYAC’s got style. Excuse me as I throw on my coolest looking shades and feel stylish for a few brief minutes to this swaggering tune, too.
SXSW 2017 - OEB Spreadsheet #41
A single artist cracks our ‘seven’ mark this evening, but a nice group of potential middlers worth a quick listen. Highlights:
Cameron Avery (8) - Complex passages give Avery’s solo material extra heft, clearly detailed, but still raw and just weird enough for a bit of contemporary space-out. He’s going for heavy emotionality as well, songs of love and yearning, regret and strife.
CAPYAC (6) - Austin synth-pop duo CAPYAC borrow from disco rhythms and melodies and reformat them to a mid-tempo, cool dance vibe. The duo’s 2016 record is relatively understated for the genre, holding back on club grooves a notch to more cerebral territory.
Carpenter Brut (6) - Wildly intense, Carpenter Brut’s form of synth rock is experimental, piercing and demanding. A take-no-prisoners approach gives the French artist extra weight, consistently creating 80s reinventions on his Trilogy collection.
Blueprint Blue (6) - Consistently breezy, understated pop/rock band Blueprint Blue use their songs like a push of a hammock, loose but staying in a cool pocket on recent singles “When There’s Sun” and “Good Dreams”. It’s a soft listen, but check out the band’s subtly complex guitar lines when they hit instrumental goodness.
Bobby Bazini (6) - A solid voiced singer-songwriter, Bazini uses his pop-soul croon to emote his breezy, acoustic rock music soundly and cleanly. His latest Summer Is Gone is produced with professional angles, an accessible listen with classic, throwback vibes.
