Although, to be fair, a lot of my favourite, favourite characters are characters that have actually gone through a lot of pain and trauma. So, I don't actually want them to be a real person.
I like exploring the dark side through fiction, because if I was faced with a very real person who had gone through these things, I would not know what to say.
I'd be devastated for them and offer to give them hugs.
(That said, my faves are also emotionally brittle beings who don't enjoy hugs from random strangers, so... that probably wouldn't work anyway).
