"they made alicent a victim and sympathetic!!" no, book alicent was a victim of viserys' & rhaenyra's & daemon's awful life choices that put her and her beloved family in an impossible situation and she had my sympathy. what they did to show alicent instead is making her a team black rhaenyra dickrider more enthused about killing her own family members than the scumbags who ruined her & her children's lives. literally the worst writing decision to have happened to my green queen
Imagine them showing in season 1 episode 4 and 5 Alicent feeing lonely at court and isolated by her new position, laughed at by her husband in front of his family and largely ignored by him except for at night when he requests she come to his room for him to use her body, and then her father is fired and sent away from court because she tried to help her friend and was deceived by her instead, and now she's completely alone in the Red Keep. And before her father leaves he warns her of the danger her children are in through no fault of her own and due to a situation caused by the family she married into, the family that uses her and sets her aside every time.
AND THEN a scene of Alicent, dressed in Targaryen red and black, sitting inside in her bedchamber, toddler aged Aegon and baby Helaena playing with the maids on the rug, and she looks in the mirror and barely recognizes herself. She's lost herself and her identity in becoming a Targaryen's queen. She's lost friends and allies she can trust. She's lost her mother and now her father has been lost to her, sent away to Oldtown. She's lost her dignity, respect, and bodily autonomy in her marriage. Then she turns to watch her children, playing with wooden toy dragons on the floor, and she realizes that these two people are all the only ones, the only good things in her life, that she hasn't yet lost. And she decides that she won't lose them, too. She requests to her maid that a seamstress be brought to her, so that the first of new dresses be made. She will abandon the blacks and reds of her marriage so far, because no matter how Targaryen she dresses she is not one of them and will never be. She is a Hightower woman, and she will fight for her children. She will light the way toward a new future where her children will not be another casualty of this family's choices. She will find allies, and she will prepare her children to rule, because this is the only chance she has to save her family.
I need Alicent to strut into season 4 stronger, bitterer, more wounded, more vicious, and infinitely more vindictive. I need an Alicent who has finally reached the point where she simply does not give a fuck about consequences anymore. Religion? Reputation? History? Rhaenyra's opinion of her? The judgement of the realm? What exactly does she have left to lose? I need her to call Rhaenyra out on everything. I need all that grief to finally curdle into anger. I need Alicent to stop internalizing every tragedy as evidence of her own failure and start looking around at the people who actually made these choices and say: "No. You did this too."
Because yes, she has lost Helaena, but Jaehaera is still alive, and suddenly Alicent has something to protect again. And then imagine her discovering, one by one, that Aegon is alive, Aemond is alive, and PLEASE, hopefully, Daeron is alive too. Imagine the realization hitting her that her family isn't gone. It's scattered, broken, traumatized, but alive. And suddenly the woman who thought she had nothing left to live for has a reason to live again. Except this time, I don't want her crawling back into the same cycle of guilt. I want her emerging from it completely changed. Because maybe she was wrong to believe that surrendering would end the bloodshed, wrong to believe Rhaenyra would necessarily be the better ruler, wrong to believe that if she sacrificed enough pieces of herself and her family, eventually there would be peace. And maybe, horrifyingly, painfully, she realizes she was right to trust her instincts in the first place. Maybe putting Aegon on the throne wasn't simply Otto's ambition or Alicent's misunderstanding. Maybe she looks at everything Rhaenyra has become and thinks: "I was right to fear you." And she stands beside Aegon because that's her son, that's her King, and this time she chooses him with her eyes completely open. Give me the Green Queen again. Alicent who tried surrender, reconciliation, sacrifice, mercy, tried choosing peace over pride, and lost her daughter anyway.
If history insists on painting Alicent as the villain, then let her finally be her. Let Rhaenicent enter its bitter divorce era. Just two women staring across the ruins of everything they once meant to each other and realizing that whatever love remains between them has finally become inseparable from resentment. Give me Alicent looking at Rhaenyra and realizing: "I loved you. I trusted you. I chose you over my own instincts. And look what it cost me."
Then let her straighten her crown, gather whatever remains of her children and grandchildren around her, and light the fucking way.

Alicent returning from battle, her armour scuffed, dirtied and bloodied. Her helmet is tucked under her arm while her other hands rests on the pommel of her sheathed sword. Rhaenyra receives her at the gate of the keep, her breath catching and her pupils dilating at the sight in front of her as her gaze sweeps over her protectors form.
Alicent greets her queen and informs her that the battle is won, the news pleases Rhaenyra. Alicent keeps her hand on her sword while escorting the queen back to her chambers.
Not a moment is wasted once they're inside.
The helmet is dropped. The gloves are thrown off. Rhaenyra's hands are needy and impatient and she roughly tugs loose the buckles of Alicents armour, practically tearing it off her.
Alicent pins Rhaenyra against the wall, her lips crashing into hers as she demands entrance with her tongue. Rhaenyra grants access immediately and follows the motion as Alicent grabs the back of her thighs and hoists her up. Her legs lock around Alicents waist, her arms circle her shoulders.
She walks Rhaenyra over to her bed and follows her down, both of them eagerly stripping the other of their clothes.
Two fingers slide into Rhaenyra and Alicent groans at the feeling of how wet she is already. Rhaenyra's hips buck in her palm, her nails digging into Alicents back at the onslaught of sensations as Alicents other hand harshly squeezes her breast.
Alicent tells Rhaenyra that she has no idea how good it feels to thrust her sword into those traitors necks. She'd kill anyone for her, anyone who dares stand in her queens way or rise up against her.
Hearing those words makes Rhaenyra moan louder and clench harder around her fingers. It's intoxicating to her. Alicent is by far her most devoted. She doesn't need anyone else to believe in her, not when she has Alicent.
The sounds Alicent coaxes out of Rhaenyra only spur her on. She fucks her harder, working her closer to that edge, her thumb finding her throbbing clit and rubbing it in tight circles. Rhaenyra practically sees stars.
Alicent doesn't stop there. She kisses down Rhaenyra's body, holds her hips in place as she squirms. She bites and marks her thighs, claiming Rhaenyra as hers. Rhaenyra nods along mindlessly, she belongs only to the woman on top of her.
Alicent eats Rhaenyra out like she's starving. She is starving, she's always hungry to taste her queen. Rhaenyra's hand buries in Alicents hair, keeping her in place. She laps her up greedily, sending Rhaenyra over the edge once more. And then again. She cleans up any drop of arousal left behind, not letting any of it go to waste.
Rhaenyra is left trembling under her once she's done, a blissed out smile on her face as Alicent comes back up again to kiss her. Alicent brushes her hair out of her face as she tells her how much she loves her. Rhaenyra says the words right back.
Itâs astounding to me how many people donât get why Alicent grabbed the knife after Aemondâs eye was cut out and what a turning point that was. A Prince was just permanently maimed and Viserys and Rhaenyra not punishing Luke at all (it didnât have to be eye for an eye) sent a clear message to everyone that Alicentâs children donât matter to The King or his Heir, they can be harmed and there will be no consequences at all. That puts them in danger, you canât maintain power and safety as a royal if you can be harmed without consequence. Worse than that, Viserys actively threatened to further maim and permanently disable Aegon and Aemond when he said âAnyone whose tongue dares to question the birth of Princess Rhaenyraâs sons shall have it removedâ. Even if you think Rhaenyra wasnât alluding to possible torture when she said Aemond should be âsharply questionedâ, Viserys undoubtedly, unambiguously threatened to mutilate his own children and Rhaenyraâs âThank you, fatherâ was her approving of grievous harm to Alicentâs children.
Alicent didnât go straight to wanting to cut out Lukeâs eye, she tried begging Viserys to treat her son as his son worthy of his protection and consideration but he wouldnât. It was only after absolutely nothing happened - not even an apology, Viserys halfheartedly tells them all to apologize when only one person is seriously harmed and even that didnât happen. Rhaenyra made no attempt to make her son even apologize and take accountability, instead claiming he was the victim and justified in resorting to physical violence and jumping a kid 4 to 1 when insulted (but according to the fandom, Alicent is the âboy momâ teaching her sons to not be accountable but also sheâs evil and abusive when she does scold them, okay). That was the turning point when Alicentâs worst fears were confirmed that Rhaenyra would maim and slaughter her own half-siblings. Whether thatâs what Rhaenyra meant to convey and whether that was true (I think it was more her complete lack of political awareness and self-centeredness than genuine intent to harm them) doesnât matter, that was the message not only to Alicent but to everyone else.
Thatâs also why this recent season is hot garbage pretending Alicent is just moderately resistant to killing her own sons because âoh no war is scary and I still have a crush on Rhae Rhaeâ, reducing her from a fierce, complicated mother who loves her children like her own heart despite having been forced to have them and struggling to bond to them, who grabbed a knife to avenge her son when no one else would despite having never held a weapon before, to pure victim whose only motivation for her actions was serving what she thought the dead man she was married to as a child wanted.
