✨ Why do you like AtLA?

Love the classical elements and the storyline!

✨ What character and card resonate with you? Why?

The Fool. The Fool is very spontaneous and lives in the moment without any fear of consequences. I can be that person but I choose not to sometimes. The Devil: Most people think this card is evil but it's the perfect balance implied that resonates with me so much. Toph is quite good as I love her rebelling against normative culture!

✨ What book/text would you want to read the most? Or, talk about a book/text you've read or will read and what it means to you.

Nothing specific but books exploring the Japanese Yokai.

✨ Why do you like AtLA?

The world and characters intrigued me since I was a child - I would set a reminder on my flip phone to make sure I never missed an episode. And now, years later as an adult, I still love the show - it still speaks to me even now. It's something that's impactful, no matter your age.

✨ What character and card resonate with you? Why?

It used to be Toph, but now it's Katara. She's strong and a caregiver even in the face of hardships, something I look up to. As for which card, I'd say Death, because I've experienced so many transformations in my life, and instead of fearing them, I've come to appreciate them.

✨ What book/text would you want to read the most? Or, talk about a book/text you've read or will read and what it means to you.

An important book that I still want to read but haven't yet, is Lord of the Rings, because it's a book that means a lot to my best friend and my boyfriend.

✨ Why do you like AtLA?

So many reasons! The world building is expansive and the different styles of bending is so clever, but what really resonated with me is how well the show can balance humor with more serious and dark moments. The season one finale still gives me goosebumps! Also, I had a mega crush on Kyoshi.

✨ What character and card resonate with you? Why?

The Star, the card of hope and rebuilding. And I've always loved Katara! She's passionate, good-hearted, and stubborn as all hell.

✨ What book/text would you want to read the most? Or, talk about a book/text you've read or will read and what it means to you.

Two books that I started recommending to people before I even finished reading them myself are The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers and Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Chambers writes some of the warmest, coziest science fiction I have ever found. There’s a huge emphasis on found families, the characters and worlds and alien species are all charming and loveable, AND it’s gay! I reread it at least once a year. Kimmerer is a member of the Citizen Potawatomi nation and a botanist. She couples indigenous knowledge with her scientific training for this book about the natural world, our place in it, and the reciprocal nature of that relationship. Her writing is absolutely gorgeous and definitely made me cry  more than once, as well as filled me with a deeper appreciation of... basically everything. Her writing is a celebration of the world; this is one book I think absolutely everybody needs to read!

It's such a good blend of funny and serious--the whole situation is a sad one, but there's still humour to be found, still friendships to be formed, still some light in the darkness.

Katara has always been a favourite--she tries her best but is a little stiff sometimes and needs to learn to relax.

✨ Why do you like AtLA?

AtLA is a story of youth. No one is ever perfect, each have their flaws and foibles. That diversity is what makes them all so compelling as characters and engrossing as I watched them grow up over four seasons.

✨ What character and card resonate with you? Why?

Death and The World are cards that mean a lot to me. In many ways they're interconnected and have personal meanings for me.

✨ Knowledge Seekers (Writers):  What book/text would you want to read the most? Or, talk about a book/text you've read or will read and what it means to you. 

I've been reading the Vlad Taltos series by Steven Brust since high school. His stories, following the eponymous main character, is quite similar to AtLA in characterization except Vlad is more sarcastic and reckless despite his good heart.

✨ Why do you like AtLA?

The characters are so relatable and fleshed out! The show portrays many ways that people can react to pride, shame, anger, loss. These are such human experiences that everyone faces, and I love the sense of connection that I get from the show.

✨ What character and card resonate with you? Why?

Iroh is so good!!! I rewatched Iroh's portion of "The Tales of Ba Sing Se" episode yesterday and cried so hard??? He lost so much, but instead of responding with hatred he dedicated himself every day to growing more kind and generous toward all people, and like, wow. What a man.

✨ Which card is your favorite and why?

The Star is probably my favorite card! Finding my way back to hope reminds me that humans are capable of so much good. To me, feeling inspired to grow and understand myself/others more deeply is one of the best parts of life!

✨ What book/text would you want to read the most? Or, talk about a book/text you’ve read or will read and what it means to you:

I adore The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater. Her writing style is imaginative and fun to read! The main characters are a band of friends who are deeply loyal to each other (gotta get me some of that found family!) and it was the first series I'd ever read that had a gay couple with fully fleshed out characters who didn't die lol

✨ Why do you like AtLA?

I've loved it ever since I was a child, and it was quite possibly my most intense special interest EVER when i was around 10-12. It still holds a huge place in my heart for its memorable characters, unique worldbuilding, and fantastic writing.

✨ What character and card resonate with you? Why?

Toph is one of my favorite AtLA characters - when I was a kid I think I simultaneously had a crush on her and wanted to be her at the same time. As someone who struggled with severe social anxiety in the past (and who is still kind of a pushover to this day lol), I have always admired Toph as someone who is honest and stubborn, who stands up for herself and what she believes in even if other people don't like it.

A tarot card that I sort of consider "my" card is the Knight of Swords. I am extremely passionate to the point of obsession, and I have always been ambitious and determined to meet my goals, so much so that I can get tunnel vision. I have so much energy that I don't know what to do with. I have a group of OCs who are in a punk band together, with a lead singer who is abrasive, reckless, and has no problem defend herself and her beliefs, and I named the band Knight of Swords after a card that I feel encompasses both that character and myself in somewhat different ways.

✨ What book/text would you want to read the most? Or, talk about a book/text you've read or will read and what it means to you.

Two of my favorite books in the world are "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns," both by Khaled Hosseini - his work is incredibly poignant and beautiful, despite being about hard to read (yet important) topics, and both books made me bawl.

✨ Why do you like AtLA?

I'm generally drawn to fantasy genres, and AtLA hits close to home with bending the elements.

✨ What character and card resonate with you? Why?

I love Suki's spirit - her personality makes me want to fight alongside her, and I like her character design as well! If I were to choose a favorite card in a general sense, it'd probably be the Moon; it symbolizes deception and illusion, which are themes that I enjoy playing with when writing. The Sun card is also a close second because of it's upright terms - happiness, success, vitality.
