While I'm glad to see more Graggle recognition on this here blog, I wish there were more people talking about Cardinal Goncharov as well. He's my personal favourite minor character! I loved the bit where he shared his pack of cigarettes with Sabbadin; such a great character note and nod to rationing in Soviet times. But I guess the reason he doesn't get talked/written about a lot is because that would require western fans to research the history of Soviet Russia and that's too much work for many :(

my favorite Cardinal Graggle scene is when he approaches Thomas after Tremblay's sodomy revelation and says, "Only you could have figured it out. Congratulations." in the most honest and repentant voice ever. like. come on. anyone else felt some sorry for him in that scene?? or just me. (also the sexual tension with Thomas)

Graggle is a nothing burger of a character (they didn't even include him in the movie) but from what we do have about him, his comments on sexual abuse scandals, his closeness to Tedesco, Lomeli thirsting over his beautiful red beard and dark deep set features at every opportunity while also clearly disliking him for his brazen selfish and neurotic world view. There's so much there's so much that we could be getting out of him fanfic wise.

To me Graggle is kinda a joke about how far removed the fandom is from the source material, I don't even remember whats canon and whats not and I've read the book and movie. Like did Lomeli actually have prostate cancer or is this fanon who knows because I surely don't.
