Bobby started up a story I'd heard about a hundred damn times. I wasn't hearing the words anymore so much as watching his mouth, which was usually moving and always wet. When he was real focused on something, he'd have the tip of his tongue poked out, and every few seconds he'd run it quick across his top lip. When he borrowed comic books from Gotta, he would lick the tip of his finger to turn the page with a little flick just like a snake. Sometimes, hunched over in combat, eyes vast and fixed on the line, he'd have one of his dog tags pulled from his jacket and held in his mouth, nibbling on the hard metal edge or sucking like a baby.
