REMY LEBEAU / @cardshcrp gets a semi-plotted thing
BY FAR IT’S NOT THE WORST CONDITION she’s come back in, not that there’s anyone to judge it other than her. a few bruises, a split lip, and only one cut on her arm worthy of stitches? that’s a pretty tame night for her all things considered. it’s nothing a hot shower and a cold beer can’t fix. god she’s looking forward to it.
when she steps into her apartment, rayne knows something is off immediately. it’s dark, it always is, but she can tell something isn’t right. this is her space, and she knows it well enough to now when something isn’t the way it should be. the door is closed behind her quietly, handle turned all the way so the latch doesn’t make noise. she goes so far as to turn the lock and carefully place the chain. it’ll force whoever is here to have to fight with the door if they try that for their means of escape.
a quiet step forward and a glance into the kitchen tells her it’s clear. next her gaze flits to the living room in front of her and her eyes have adjusted to the minimal light filtering in through the curtains that she can tell no one is in the living room either. she’s also seen enough to know that they came in through the window in the room from the fire escape.
rayne stops just before she’s in the line of sight of the hallway. if they aren’t here, then they have to be down in the bedroom–likely hers since the spare is all but bare with only a bed and dresser. the windows in either of those rooms aren’t helpful; neither reaches the fire escape. only the one in the living room does. she has them cornered. trapped. carefully, quietly, she draws her gun and turns off the safety. for a moment she stops and leans on the wall in the entrance, out of sight of anyone in the hallway. she waits, listens, assesses. what’s the best move to make?
